Yup Multianna, you are definitely in the mature gamer catagory. It would be neat to see how old most of the gamers who are interested in Sins are. As for powerful machines, I think IC needs to aim higher and deliver more. Hardware is always getting better and will catch up quickly and the game is still a ways from release anyway. By the way Multianna, I always enjoy your posts.

Oh, what large scale ships did the Empire have that were specialized (ie, one focus purpose)?

Fighting? I thought we were having a fun debate about pros/cons of realism as an argument for including ramming. I suppose it doesn't matter much anyway, the developers have said what they are going to do. Ramming will not be part of the game.

Hey danielost 1: First off, I was talking about laser weapons (amongst others) being a poor choice for an offensive weapon system in space (they could possibly be effective for point defense though). I am not sure why you mentioned lasers as a means of propulsion. I don't get where you got laser propulsion from my earlier post. 2: Also, you mentioned the Laser Engine concept without even looking to see what it is. Basically, it is a ground based laser (and ground based p

Hey danielost. Okay, we are still on the realism of ramming topic, are we? So then let's talk reality. First up, if you tell everyone that a standard tactic is to ram enemy ships and kill yourselves doing it, do you think people will be lining up to enlist? Look at what is happening because of Iraq. That war is no where near being a sure death situation (like ramming ships would be), but look at the plunge in the numbers of people enlisting; all because of a small (but visible) perc

Still, you Phase Lane boys are only at 49% = loss Okay, seriously though. About half of you are fine with the idea of limiting Phase Lanes. Fine, let's say that the SoaSE standard campaign uses Phase Lanes and that the developers won't change their minds about this. In fact, I don't even think most of us Pro Open Connection Map guys even care about whether the campaign uses open or closed maps.

Check again P5y, we were at 53% (one guy voted but didn't give a % number in his post), how does your vote count as 2? Hehe, if I were a smart ass, I would make an argument now that people who want Phase Lanes can't do math...and who wants to be on the side of people who can't add or subtract. Of course, that argument would only last as long as it took Schem to get involved and ask how the hell was the original 50%/50% value reached, and how is it that each new vote is worth ex

Pirates can be a bit like a minor faction, if they can use Dead Asteroids as small secret bases (with a small income for just them) and they attack factions that have bounties on them.

Maybe if this was a game by Lucas Arts you'd be in trouble. But the Ironclad crew are actually in touch with reality. You should be safe.

Yeah, ships should have antimatter to jump. But the designers are trying to prevent the losing side in a battle from losing everything...even though, that is usually how it goes even with the ability to jump without antimatter.

Hehe, I think that is how the game was originally designed. When the developers talk about the game as once being open connected, I am pretty sure they meant exactly what you just posted. This is good for us.

Oh, when I said the "guys like us" in the above post, I meant SciFi gamers who prefer a decent or greater amount of realism and in depth background. So please no responses about how younger gamers like realism and in depth games as well, as I included all of us in my statement. I've always preferred Inclusive language over Exclusive.

Hehe, well said booly. I am 36 years old, and a University Graduate (my focus was on 20th Century military history). Anyway, I've been waiting years for a space empire game with the features Matty_P is asking for. I hope that the developers realize that there are quite a few of us older gamers who crave and appreciate high levels of realism and an in depth Galaxy. I have to admit some fear that Ironclad might be aiming for a more casual type gamer with SoaSE. That would be a

I personally liked the atmospheric jump the Galactica did during the battle. That was cool.

Schem got it right. But maybe Chip5541 can explain to us why studying one tech area will forever close a player off from other study options. I bet the answer will be along the lines of "it is logical, it just is!"

Erring on the side of realism in relation to scale and physics sounds great to me. But if that can't be done, at least leave us the modding tools to do so ourselves.

Pirates need to have their own bases on either Asteroid Planets or Dead Asteroids (I prefer special pirate bases on Dead Asteroids). They should attack and raid nearby players that have bounties on them. This would both make pirates more fun and increase the usefulness of bounties.

Or pirates having bases on asteroids/dead asteroids. They could also actively seek out and attack sides that have bounties on them..which would make bounties more useful.

Imperial Star Destroyers are an interesting design concept. I mean the ships take a 'jack of all trades' approach to warfare. The Star Destroyer is a ship to ship combat vessel. Yet, it is also a carrier vessel with a large compliment of diverse strikecraft. It is also a troop carrier that includes a battalion of troops with heavy equipment. I guess it fits well with the Empire needing a one size fits all kind of ship to keep systems in line. Do the Imperials or Reb

Something that bugs me a bit about bombers is that they launch rockets bigger than they are over and over again. I liked what EvilleJedi did for his Star Wars mod for Homeworld 2. In it, bombers would launch a salvo of rockets/missiles, but wouldn't be able to do it again until they docked and relaunched. It made for some interesting tactics.

It is just that Matty_P is so aggressive and negative in his posts that it really makes you want to go against what he wants....unless he is using reverse psychology on us all and he actually wants a totally unrealistic game. ....Alright, let's show him. We'll include ramming and make this game as realistic as possible. lol Matty, have faith that Ironclad will include a bit of what you mentioned wanting in your other posts (probably not ramming though). Also trust that they w
