The carrier bit was only about the Dictator, it's nice to have, but gets toasted pretty quickly, but I have the spare AC to play hard and fast with it. Don't pull your support ships, especially marses and emperors, into the brawl, it just doesn't work. If you really want the solar admiral, grab sharks for your Emperor, they're always fun to have handy, and can open up some holes in the enemy line, and are faster than bombers. What's TAFE? On the mod front, I'm almost done with

Mod's going well, I'm still fussing with the test version to get everything right, and it's going okay. My sprained ankle is finally mostly okay, so my dad's dragging me around to get in a summer's worth of "recreation" jammed in to the remaining time before I get to college (HOLY GOD I ONLY HAVE 3 WEEKS LEFT!), so I'm not able to get in as much work as I'd like. I think Prezo's got some models emitterated, but I'm not sure on that because convertXSI had a cow after we forgot texturing. Prezo, I
I know what lovely ships strike cruisers are, I was planning to reserve one in to my fleet. If I can bring three bc and a pair of THawks to bear against an enemy ship, then a crit is almost guaranteed and a fire arc down is very likely, and then it's the turn of the three dauntlesses it likes to chum with to take it out with their prow lances and lay into something else's unprotected prow/aft with their 12 wbs. Considering that my main opponent likes to carry a large carrier section spraying fir
WRT? What's that? The thing about the overlord is that comparing it to chaos is valid. It has the same role as their ships, and even "fleet flavor" pales when you're trying to explain why the carnage has effectively the same firepower in that role for 55 points less. The torp nose isn't worth that much on a straight gunship, let alone a support ship that isn't going to use it. Also, what are you trying to say the torp nose is for if not for picking up incidental damage while closing and spitball
My feeling on the Overlord is that the problem is it gets the same broadside as a lunar (figuring in the column shift), so 235 points for that piddling bit of firepower isn't all that useful when the lunar has to fire both broadsides just to be worth the price. It's overpriced because that weak firepower at range and the linebreaker torp prow it has both have to be paid for, but you can't use both. That need is also the problem of the Tyrant, because it has to fire both broadsides to be worth it
Me, I want to make the useless ships less useless, but in some cases, that'll involve some significant changes. For example, the Retribution class battleship is armed with full broadsides and a heavy armored prow like a linebreaker, but has lances and most inexplicably trades firepower for range like a long range fire support ship. End result: it fails at both. Easy solution is to change the WBs to Strength 18 at 45 cms range, but I'm a little hesitant about changing statlines like that. The Obe
okay, that's great to hear. I'm still playing around with a slaughter that inert gave me that pops up a ton of errors but won't crash ever, so it's fine for my purposes. I've got convertXSI converting, but it didn't give me anything, just an empty model. Grrr... Stupid program.
Yeah, I'm here (mostly). I'll try to be online whenever I can and get in contact with you asap. The testing version I'm working on is going well, with models, I'll be ready with a serious alpha draft soon. Once we get that up, we should have our own thread even if the IP restrictions prevent us from having an open download link.
Okay, thanks, hope she does. That'd be a huge help.
no, getting online, don't worry, I'm still working on the mod, it's just hard for me to communicate. Strawbdragon, if memyselfi1119 is on AIM or xthetenth is on MSN, that's me, and feel free to get in contact, even though I'm not in the models department, I work on the code end of things.
Hello, I'm very happy to meet you, we need a skinner really badly, and in all honesty, if you can get a texture done that's better than a flat color, that'll be doing us a major favor. Sorry I'm on so little anymore, but I have to sign on to a phone connection to get about a minute of time online, so I've kind of given up on it.
I fully understand your reasoning, the only thing with that massive stable is that I don't see you having call for more than a battleship or two unless you're really planning to have some epic battles, in which case send me your address, I want in ;) . Also, I just realized that my chaos fleet needed two more cruisers to be balanced, so I'm adding another Desolator (yeah, I know it's a lot, but 4 ac and a pair of lances at 60 cm are just too much fun to pass up, especially when your main oppo
I'm not sure on the ship pictures, I'll let Inert ask those questions. On the Gothics, I do have a reason to want to pair two of them. Torps are at their best inside 30 cm, where nova cannons can't fire (also, I don't want to spam NC), and spitballing 12 at a single ship can really put the hurt on a ship. As a bonus, you don't have to waste shots punching through shields, which the NC does. The only thing that matters with the broadside lances is that they have a target, so I don't have
I guess one would say I have a problem and/or addiction.
To each his own, we all need something to do ;) . I think I'll try out some escorts in my next game, although I have no idea when it'll be. Currently my IN fleet is going to look something like this (be warned, this changes with my mood, but I rather like this one, so it'll at least see play): 1x Emperor 1x Mars 1x Dictator 1x Dominator 3x Gothic 2-3x Dauntless <br
That's quite the fleet there, Augustinian. Chang, I honestly don't know who's right on the matter of escorts, personally I favor attack craft because they're so fast and maneuverable, and attack through shields. If you compare an emperor to those swords, it can put out 8 bombers a turn, and if you hit a sword squadron with that, it'll lose most its ships if not all, and the Emperor will hit first due to the escorts' need to close, and this brings up the escorts' other problem. Until a c
Escorts are negotiable in my experience, they're very good in some cases, where you can cut into the other guy's ungunned arcs, but if you can get guns on them they turn into popcorn. They have a very good firepower for their cost, but they're very easy to kill as well. Plus, a well-aimed swarm of ordnance can really do some damage to escorts. A pair of Gothics can really put the hurt into an escort squadron, although the cost disparity is worth consideration. I'd much rather have a pair of daun
Do you have the actual Voss pattern light cruisers? They're so rare... I like the Praetorian, it's a battleship with a definite role, and is designed to deal with that role primarily. When compared with the Emperor, it pays 20 points and the sacrifice of a chance to get an easy 8 launchbays with leadership 10 for the price of an ld. 9 admiral (which is amazingly cheap for IN) to trade 8 launch bays for four lances, and much better off-side firepower if the enemy tries to surround it. Th
Wow, thanks a ton! You have 2000 points of IN? Lucky, I still only have four IN and Chaos cruisers. I've got some screenshots I've taken from a testing version, but they aren't all that impressive yet. I'm going to wait to post them till they look a bit better, because as of now the Weapon emitters arent' working right, so the ships shoot from the center. If you want to see the models, check out the gallery in our modcraft page at: [link="http://www.modcraft.net/community/index.php?auto
I'll try to get you something with the one model we have that works flawlessly, so you'll get chaos cruisers and hopefully planets and the like, along with a possibility of planets. In other words, I'll try to get you everything I can from 7:30 AM (when my cs project becomes done whether I want it to be or not) on. Sorry it won't be complete, and it may take me a little while to find out which member of my slaughter collection is the right one, but I will get you something cool to play with, and
NO WoW! Bad Admiral! :p I'm almost done with my project(hooray!), so I'll be back to full work mode soon.
no, we're just quite into situational irony. In other news, I just got my new laptop (it's glorious!), so it'll take me a day or two to get everything set up after friday, which is the new due date for my cs project.
pictures will be excellent. I don't know why the ships want to use their left broadside, but it doesn't really matter for now, and I think that the sins ships with unbalanced broadsides are armed more heavily on the left. The emitters just mean that the ships don't shoot from the right place, but are otherwise fully functional.
Oh, yes, the prow should be wider, and that would broaden the spine. Also, we already have the battery sections slanted, it just looks like they aren't in the picture. As an aside, we've got ships working well enough for me to toy with (they're working except for the weapon emitters which get ignored and shooting comes from the center still), so it's going really well. I'll probably be able to get a cruiser clash testing version set up so by the time we get the chaos alpha together the
GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evil forums at work!!!! Sorry about the double post with pictures (now a triple post, but the edit button went, and that needs explanation). I accidentally changed pages while posting, refreshed, didn't see my post, rewrote it, and then saw BOTH POSTS! Oops, sorry.
It doesn't look that wide in this picture: If it's actually an optical illusion that it's only two rows of wbs wide on the dorsal spine, please disabuse us of the notion, admiral. Also, in other 40k news, Dawn of War 2 looks amazing, and I think that 5th ed will make a lot more sense from the pdf I read, but I'm not sure on the effect it'll have.
