Heya, i just read this kick-a** book called "Weapons of Choice" by John Birmingham, which is currently my favorite book of all time. i thought i'd just share it with you coz i want more ppl out there to read the trilogy coz it rox. in short, naval fleet from 2021 gets sent back in time by an accident to WW2, right into the middle of an American task force, heading to midway. pretty much, lots of shootin and a nukin until they see the stars and stripes on each other and stop. i love the differece
True but then coilguns and railguns are pretty advanced weapons, needing a great deal of energy (beyond any of today's portable means) as well as extremely durable alloys (also, well beyond our current technology) so they are not primitive, just more primitive than lasers and energy turrets. Not true, They r working on a rail-gun today, to replace tank cannons and ship cannons, and is supposed to have like a 300% increase in range from normal shells. also, they r using tungsten

yesh, some random elements r good, as long as they dont favour ppl its alrite. there could be a probability meter nd every now nd again, there could be a comet or sumthin that passes u by. it should also be interactive, not just painted on lawl. like u could shoot it down, or capture it for res. or capture it and put it in ur planets orbit, which u could then build defence thingys on it, sorta like a moon. or instead of proobability, it could "orbit" or go around the whole map in a wide circle a

1b) An alternative to cloaking could be a Chameleon Device that could emulate an enemy ship type to facilitate a spy mission, or surprise attack. This sounds like a sweet idea, and an original one too, coz ive never seen this b4. 8) Self-Destruct mechanism that would damage surrounding ships/structures (including your own). read my post on "ship to ship ramming

well it wouldnt be like that, you could set it as a stance (such as in homeworld 2: the agressive stance) but only ram stance, and when the ships health reaches just say 5%-10%, it could then find the nearest target and ram it. the ram option wouldnt be a button on the bar, coz then ppl wouldnt ram new ships, and it could lead to someone spam ramming. anyway, that would work out ok, especially if your sure that if u try to run, you would only get shot in the back and die anyway. <img src="http:/
also, an easy way to place them is to select your minelayer and click on the mine laying button and then it comes up with a draw tool and you draw a line (or a circle for a field of them) and then the minelayer will place them along the line (or in the circle). this could be a slow process, but would let you build mines without a second thought. u just tell the minelayer where to place them then just go about your merry business, to come back in a few minutes to find he has done the job and is
lol, they should b able to tell friend or foe, and could be detected by a special scans, and laid by a minelayer
I dont know if there are already mines in the game, but if not, a great idea could be a mine that is inactive untill a passing ship gets within a certain proximity of it, and it magnitises and latches to the ship and explodes. this would be really kewl if there was a feild of them, making it a deathtrap for passing ships. the fields could be placed in important routes making it easyer to manage ur fleet, thinking that the enemy wouldnt go there. you could also predict that the enemy could bluff
but thats just it, it could be there as a punishment for people who dont move out of the way

lol i agree with eet, if ur ship is about to blow up then its not a question of courage, its a question of "do i go down with my ship?" or "do i go down with my ship, and drag an enemy kicking and screaming with me?" lol, scrap the idea anyway, i've gotten over it now, and have been convinced it has more negat
lol ok. all i was saying was that there should be at least some damage when your ships blow up, giving some incentive for the enemy to stay away. this could be set for when (lets try the most obvious explosion ) your ship blows up, and wouldnt need managing seeing as thats what it does automaticly. i agree with that other reply, that if bumping could damage ships, you would lose a big chunk of your fleet.
