Sins is both smooth and deep. It's not just another run-of-the-mill space 4x, but nicely combines that with more action-oriented RTS (like HW2 or WIC for example). The MP side is fairly small probably due to the long games. It could be best to arrange games beforehand on the MP Organizer forum, IRC etc. so you can play with similar people. I play Sins on a 3 year old performance/mid-end box and it runs large 3v3 games just fine.

Is there a canonical set of game options for multiplayer? Something that makes the games shorter but is ok with the vast majority of players? Something like no pirates and fast everything? :-/

I'm starting to develop a liking to the crusaders, and now they're like my 2nd thing to add to fleets right after carriers. They're a quick and dirty solution to the problems: you can get them off the shelf, they are durable, they work without much tech and micro, and they allow me to deal decent DPS. This starts playing like Eve - I can imagine my progi flagship calling "primary target Hoshiko #1!" and the hv cruiser captains all going F1 F2 F3 F4 [e digicons]XD[/e] The enemy fleet goes d

I would say you should pick up World in Conflict . This title easily beats anything I list below - and probably stuff on your list - except Eve Online. This title is just absolutely fabulous if you are into tactical RTS. Solid tactical play with line of sight, a host of modern, real-world military units with different weaponry/properties, fully destructable terrain, excellent balance and unusually strong teamplay, exceptionally smooth gameflow, no dead moments... yeah did I me

Try 3 humans vs 3 hard AI. I'd say that's probably a tad easier than tackling a single hard by yourself - since the humans can cooperate, organize, share resources, team up on 1 AI at a time... BTW if you want a player for this kind of a setup I'm all game :D

True about IRC - said it's a bit hard core :) It's kinda the Vent or TS of IM - do you know any other instant messaging system which could support 100+ people - easily - on a single channel? Which can automatically connect servers, join your favourite channels, is highly scriptable, has dozens if not hundreds of different clients available, the list goes on? If you use vent or TS, do you just use a public server? Because I figured out by now that the vast majority of Sins onl

Was a nice game today, thanks guys! Sins could be really nice in a dedicated team, hope I can find/build something like that... I'll be keeping the regular Thu/Sat slots, we'll see what develops :) I'm open to 2v2 vs CPU, or MP, even larger games. Get in touch via PM if you want to plan/arrange something beforehand.

Maybe it's all about getting the battle ball rolling? In other words, keeping the main fleet alive so it can grow. Sins seems to be unusually defensive game, but the exception is you have to use the main fleet for attacking - defending in multiple spots would just waste your time in movement. Usually my fleets get eroded in defense, but now I was playing Storm Front and going toe to toe against Hard Aggr. This time I had the prog+rap+3xradi capitals with ample array of crusaders, plus

I will be playing low-level/friendly online games regularly, either co-op human team vs AI or regular MP. This takes place every Thursday and Saturday, at the following time: UTC/GMT (UK) 1900 CET (Scandinavia, continental Europe) 2000 EET (Finland/Israel) 2100 EST (New York) 1400 (2 pm) CST 1300 PST (L.A.) 1100 I have holidays until 7.1. so other times might work as well, please let me know if other times would be suitable for you and w

I totally agree with a caveat. Normal just spams light frigates etc. while Hard uses balanced mixed fleets and generally seems a tougher opponent. I'm personally still struggling to comfortably beat Hard, after many games at this level. In GalCiv the difficulty scale had much more steps and was way smoother - you could beat a new level after 1-2 more games or so. I suppose Sins developers wanted to test each level thoroughly for appropriate play and difficulty (in their mind), so they couldn'

3rd game on Centrifuge and this is just silly. I managed an almost blitzkrieg until the enemy fleets start growing. I beat him on all resource and credit generation, maxed out focus. I have the same number of capitals, 2 more planets. Culture is maxed in research tree, sans deliverance engine. The only thing where the CPU possibly is ahead is number of frigates. How do I counter a fleet like this? 4 x capital 23 x light carrier 5 x hv cruiser</

Lol maybe not so fast, there's still Unfair to beat too before I take the chances of turtling gazillion locust cobalt frigates. Last 2 games have been weird, I've been playing Hard TEC Aggressor on Centrifuge - very much like the map, 19 planets with clear double ring layout, good balance between turtling and multiple avenues for attack (have to defend at least 4 planets). First game, I was leading the CPU by 1-2 planets, tho

How about 11 am to 2 pm CST for a game slot? I can make it slightly later if need be. Thursday is best? I'm OK with basically any day, unless there is something else scheduled. For 2v2 co-op against CPU, we only need 2 humans ;D should we get more we could do the PvP.

What software do Sins players use for VoIP communication during games, and for hooking up for games? Personally I prefer Ventrilo and IRC, but those may be a bit hardcore and best suited for organized groups. I know IRC is used in the Sins community at least for just keeping in touch - is Xfire also popular for organizing games? Skype could be a good choice for more ad hoc groups as comes to VoIP, the number of seats is limited in their service though.

Next game was balance of power - this is a small map but quite a maze. My 2nd planet to colonize was a desert one in the middle, and the CPU arrived at the scene simultaneously. I withdrew while it was blasting the neutral frigates, then came back to see it had already colonized. I pressed on... and eventually I managed to kick out the CPU while it was trying to grind down my defenses at my other desert world. I tried to push for the CPU's other planets but it didn't work, and a famil
