Everything that is wrong with gaming today is the result of old-school publishers like EA, Activision, Atari, Take Two and THQ.
Your oversimplifying. People love to have something to point their fingers at. Not all publishers are evil, and even EA puts out some good games. Some publishers are bad, but that doesn't make them the root of all of PC gaming's problems.
My firsts were on my Grandpas IBM, Ski Free, Rodents Revenge, Sim Tower, and MS Flight Simulator (dos version) to name a few. I only got the chance to play them a couple times a year though. When my dad finally got a computer (which came with a free upgrade to the soon to be released Windows 98) it came with Age of Empires, my first RTS. Afterwards I had Warcraft II, and my favorite, Total Annihilation.
As for SoaSE, they decided to write off the loss due to piracy. They still made money, but at a reduced rate. Good of them to be so nice...
They didn't "write it off" they gave people an incentive to legally purchase the game (support) instead of punishing them with horrible DRM BS.
Piracy is stealing, I still don't know how anybody could think otherwise. The game developers do not work for free. If the developers cannot get paid for all of their hard wo
Oh boy, another company who thinks putting this crap in actually helps. Here's some free advice for EA: making a paid copy of the game run worse then a pirated copy does not encourage people to buy the game. In fact, your setup tells people not to buy the game at all if they're going to be offline for extended periods. What you're actually doing is ENCOURAGING piracy, since its not like these measures will actually stop anybody from pirating it (they'll be stripped out by release). Why are
Stardock's games are popular despite not having copy-protection, not because of it.
Thats the point. A good game will sell without DRM, despite pirates. Nobody is claiming a crappy game without DRM will sell just because it doesn't have it. Pirates do not buy software, the company is not losing sales. If a pirate breaks the DRM and pirates it anyway then the company makes no money and losses the money from disgruntled customers and the cost of the DRM. If t
Real physical items are finite and have a cost associated with them. If you steal a physical item money has been lost, the store is out of the product to sell. Downloads, however, are infinite and have no cost associated with them (they just pay off developement cost). Therefore stealing digital items is different from physical items. If a pirate steals a digital copy, and was never going to buy a copy, then the company hasn't lost a sale or any item of value. There have b
I find this very disappointing. I was really looking forward to Spore. I hate going through all the DRM BS when I legally bought the game. It only hurts the consumer, and the pirates just break the DRM. At least it doesn't add any background programs. Hopefully it doesn't collect any info either.
Sorry, didn't think it posted the first time.
I knew it had to do with Roman numerals, but I couldn't remember the asterisk.
Oh well, what's more important is that it's the most awesome game ever.I hear this, over and over, so I pull out my copy, install it, and play. And then I never even make it past the second level. Usually not even the first.I wish I could get into it. I just don't. I usually exit out, fire up Unreal Tournament - yeah, the first one (the real most awesome game ever, heh heh) and kill stuff.Kill it DEAD.
TA actually usess sprites, does it not? The terrain, though, was always in 3d. It was due to PC limitations at the time.
Nope. As stated on the cd case "Over 150 run-time generated true 3d units". All of the units, environments, weapons, and trajectories are in true 3d. The only limitation is the fixed camera.
Its great that your promoting TA (my favorite game of all time) but saying it isn't "true 3d" because it had a fixed camera is false. TA was one of the first RTSs (possibly the first, but I'm not 100% sure)to be 3d. All units and terrain are in 3d and it affects the game play. TA springs does give the true 3d "experience" by unfixing the camera. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet but TA Springs does look awesome. On a more positive note, great job giving TA a proper memoriam.
