Well, in support of my fellow ToE general, as well as in support of this great idea, I've registered myself at the Twilight Pub. I think this whole idea is very creative, and I believe this will help promote unity within the community, so kudos to CL and Snarkotamus for developing the Twilight Pub!
Wow. Well, my bracket is dead. Pitt going down to Villanova, and MSU taking down Louisville?! That's just bizarre. I had Pitt winning it all, and all #1 seeds in the Final Four. Ahhh well, better luck next year. Though I have to say, that Pitt vs. 'Nova game was awesome. Truly amazing. And the end was just incredible. Has to be one of the greatest basketball games I've ever seen.

I believe there is an option (in Galactopedia) to limit your viewing to techs that belong to a specific civ. There should be a drop-down list in the upper left-hand corner that allows you to switch between all techs and civ-specific techs, though it will still list techs that other civs may be able to get. As far as a list of civ-specific techs only, I am aware of none, though it wouldn't be too hard to make. It would just take some time.
@SB: The Big Ten has potential, but I just don't see them ever being able to compete with teams from the Big East, ACC, etc. Those teams just score more and play alot faster-paced then a B10 team. MSU's gonna have their hands full with L'ville. I mean, seriously..........when was the last time a B10 team actually scored more then 90-100 pts. in a single game?! But yeah, I hope MSU can at least stick with L'ville. They (MSU) have a good, strong team this year. It'll be interest

Those that post scores frequently and also have some chat on the forums earn the status "Active." Those that only post scores, and not very often at that, got the "Quiet" column. The rest of the major empires that had "fallen" got the last column.

If you have a previous save of your game, you can reload it. The event probably won't happen again on the reload, though there's always a chance. Not sure what kind of event it is though. What version of GC2 are you playing?

Well, I believe the only possible way you could do this is if you Mod the .xml code, but a more experienced modder should be the one to give the details on how to do that. Even then, I'm not sure you can turn an entire screen off - the game might get a little buggy. You could always edit what they say, so instead of telling you what tech they're researching, they could just pop-up and say something totally random, like: "So....how's your day been? Any new conquests lately?" TB
