Right, so it may just be me - but I feel like the AI is drastically over-exploiting the super-weapon abilities. I'm very good at keeping the AI out of my space, which usually results in only my border-planets being probed, as such these planets are subject of relentless super-weapon strikes, and I have to keep rebuilding them as a result. More often than not, I can select it for rebuild and it'll be destroyed again a few seconds later. With large games where you need to focus

Wouldn't the dual-research allow eight star bases within a stars gravity well? If the Advent get something similar.. just imagine.. We're talking 160 strikecraft in the gravity well at all times, not to mention meteor swarms, disorientation.. It would be.. epic!

I think I've mentioned this previously, but I'm fairly confident that the late-game lagg isn't necessarily caused by graphics utilization. I believe it's down to all empires having massive trade-networks, and those are ever-increasing. Were the specific patches made for Strike Craft Reduction and Refinery/Trade ship reductions ever implemented at all? I really noticed increased playability when I used those patches. :)
And while we are opinions here, I grudgingly still purchase games on Impulse/GameStop because they are a lot more flexible and easier than Steam! At least when I open that client it defaults to my games instead of a sales page and I can launch and installed game without having to LOGIN every time!
You can change the default page in the settings. Honestly, so many gripes and so few ha

However I agree with your dislike of gamestop. What really blows about Steam is the mandatory updates, having to be connected to the internet to play a game, etc. This is especially "blowy" if you have a rat ass connection speed like mine. Whats more is that the purpose for

I used to be able to "set and forget" on chokepoints, now I have to micro and make sure that the Ogrovs are taken out. 30-40 of those jumping in with a fleet makes me twitch. Until you consider that if you're opponent wasted fleet supply on 30-40 ogrovs your fleet should be able to beat his even without starbase support. And that is hardly bein

When did Steam and DRM become interchangeable? Steam is a distribution platform, not DRM. AFAIK there's no more DRM in Sins than there ever has been. (Registration of key to account.)

I'm yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay about this. Steam is awesome. Steam is my friend. I have 140 games on Steam. Now if I can only get Children of the Nile on Steam, too, I can at last be rid of the darn Gamestop travesty.
Quoting BFroberg, reply 18To be fair, starbases go down fast. The AI, at least on the unfair/cruel difficulty, is very adept at taking them out. On hard it's almost trivial to defend a planet using only a star-base, and possible a few support ships to back it up. Fully upgraded starbase with 4+TEC repair platforms, hoshikos, flak, and an Akkan with some extra LRF for damage will fight back almost any AI fleet. Advent fortific

Could you upload the replay? Diplomacy did make the game a bit harder because the easy AI no longer just sits there and lets you build up an Empire for a half hour. They'll now expand and send small fleets at you from the get go, but they have a resource handicap so you should be able to out

A shame I couldn't get it on Steam though Rebellion uses Steamworks, so it doesn't really matter where you get it. It'll be in Steam once you install it regardless.
So I don't need to manage it through the Impulse client? Thank God for that. :)

Honestly, the only thing I care about is late-game lagg-reduction. Don't get me wrong, updated visuals are a treat - and the graphics were never the cause of the lagg as far as I could tell. I still think that it's all the refinery and trade ships knocking about that's the primary cause of the late-game lagg, or at least a heavy contributor of it. At any rate, it's looking great guys. So glad I preordered. A shame I couldn't get it on Steam th

I would very much like to know if I can activate my preorder on steam. I would love to cut down on distribution platforms, and installed steam games survive primary hard-drive formats, whereas impulse installs do not. My previous pre-orders were tied to my stardock/soase account - I'm really interested to know if that will carry over to Steam.

What's all this nonsense about not knowing what you're getting? *ahem* You are getting more Sins of a Solar Empire! That's really all there is to it. Either you like it, or you don't. I for one desperately need the engine boosts that have been promised since late-game is entirely unplayable - which is also why I pre-ordered when

Well, I pre-ordered it. I am worried to death, however, that the performance will be even more atrocious now - and I'll get sick of it. I really enjoy playing massive maps, and it's just not feasible to do in Sins. Hell, I can go make a pot of coffee during a major battle and I won't have missed much. Micro-management also goes entirely out of the window. (The most I manage is to focus-fire on caps.) Regardless, here's hoping. I had hoped the ne

The only examples I have, where users are escalated to admin privileges - are for very small firms where they don't necessarily have a local administrator at all. You are correct, of course, in that there's a balance you must walk between usability and security - but giving local administrator privileges is really not common for firms who do have their own administrative staff. Maybe things are just very different between our two countries.
