Other than the obvious - size of galaxy and difficulty of opponents what other factors determine the score?? I ask this becuase I won a two game in both huge galaxies both with cultural victories. One had a score of 2600 or so and the other was only 1500. The lower scoring game had harder A.I. all bright or intellegent and I conquered (through culture) more of the galaxy, but I had virtually no military and I had maybe a dozen combats throughout the game. In the higher scoring game I had many mo

This is cliped in from another thread it relates to fleabitfox's previous comment. The "super fleet" can be hard to beat, but it should be a factor in the game. You make sacrifices to your overall strategy to have a super fleet, especially in larger galaxies. I.E. weaker defense of areas where fleet is not patroling. In anycase it should be modified to allow for mas damage from multiple ships rather than one ship firing at a time. If you are concerned with super fleets, you could

I must add fuel to this fire. I agree that the fleets should get combined firepower bonuses when stacked. IN a 1 vs. 10 dreadnaught fight, if all ships were to fire one round the single ship should die before it can inflict enough damage to destroy a single opposing ship, unless the tech. gap is huge.

It is a interesting balance, with production at 100% I could not lower taxes without going negative and if I raised taxes too high I went negative. I think I should have had more trade and far fewer military ships. Still won the game, but I had to settle for an alliance with remaining AI because it would have taken forever to recover my economy to the point where I could defeat him militarily or culturaly.

One minute I am cranking out dozens of Dreadnaughts and crushing my enemies the next thing I know the economic boom ends and I am barely getting by. Must sell of surplus ships and shrink government spending to 10%, then a recession hits and there is nothing I can do short of sell destroying facilities and ships. Even the survivng AI's can't afford to buy anything. It's like Enron in space.

The solution to all random events and pitfalls is to save often. If you don't have the common sense to save your game at certain points, then yes you can be devastated by a random event. This game keeps you on your toes. If things go bad and I go back to an early save point to compensate, the AI reacts to my new path and creates new challenges for me. I am playing with normal and bright opponents and I am having a ball.
