Also - players should not require networking expertise in order to play this game online. If they do then it should be stated on the box. Maybe a WARNING label is in order.

DITTO - I'm seeing 2-3 hosts on the latest build and when I host the first guy in the lobby connects without a hitch and then everyone that follows him/her cannot connect to the host so I usually end up scrapin it altogether. Loads of fun - whippie.
Thanks for the update Draginol. I was just pullin my hair out thinking MP had gone from BAD to WORSE. I personally don't want to fudge around with the port forwarding thing so Thursday it is. Fingers-crossed!!!!
Tried the new patch half the day today and found it just as unbearable as the previous version when it comes to MP connections. I still spend about 1 hr trying to get a game started for every 30 min I play. Any chance the P2P system can be scraped entirely in favor of a client-server system? At any rate, I appreciate that SD and GPG are working hard on these and other problems. I'm just sorry that this games true commercial potential may have been missed as more and more players begin to move on
Don't feel too bad; I've only played about a dozen MP games after trying to enter several hundred. The mp is hopeless right know. SD needs to get this straightened out before this thing starts hittin the dustbin.[e digicons]>:([/e]
DITTO - with the latest patch, I crash/freeze after a connection failure
I'm feelin your pain brother. Since the latest patch, I haven't been able to get into a single mp match (any flavor). At best I get connected to 2 players before it starts dropping em and leaving me out in the cold. I'm keepin the faith for a fix but started to suffer from a lack of battle fatigue.
SD - Perhaps the community would benefit from an update on what's goin on behind the scenes to fix the DG MP. I for one would at least like to stop wasting my time trying to play when my chances are 0 to none. If you folks need a week or something for the fix - so be it - but at least then I'll know to stay away from my keyboard until your up and running. Any information would be welcome. THX
Well put Raike. The reality is most games live or die within 2 weeks of launch. If the masses cannot connect by pushing an in-game button that says connect, they are going to walk. The game will end up with tons of lame reviews which will steer many more away before even trying to push the connect button. When the dust settles you'll end up with a small community and diminished profits and everyone wringing their hands.
i'm just about ready to give up on this game; i spend about 95% of my time trying to connect and very little time actually playing
Frogboy commented some time ago that solving MP connectivity issues prior to launch day was critical to DG's commercial success. Well, I'd have to say that GPG/Stardock missed the target. I was having much greater success with connectivity with the final beta version. Since launch, I've been able to connect 4 times after 50+ attempts. This is a frackin disaster. So much for the Player's Bill of Rights when the document's drafters cannot honor those promises. Sincerely Aggrevated&
Well I've benn beta testing this game for several months and it never played better than the week before launch. Now here it is launch day and the game is basically unplayable. I either get lock-ups on the intro screens, multiplayer not recognizing my log-in info and if I get by all of that -- I can't get a match because the multiplayer is hopelessly bugged. My advice - avoid this game until GPG and SD get all the kinks worked out because right now you'll only end up pulling your hair out. We
I luv the free camera mode in the combat viewer where you can swing the camera around the action BUT I was wondering if it would be possible to get a mouse wheel zoom option so you could pan in and out while centered on various targets. Also, I know the intention was to update or modernize the ground assault graphic but I find the new animation quite boring (the older, out-dated animation was at least fun to watch (maybe its just me). Great game BTW.
How do you get to the editors??? I do not get the launch gadget but rather the main menu whenever I launch the desktop shortcut icon. I cannot find there editors anywhere.
I've been playin GC from the very beginning and marvel at how it continues to evolve. I just bought the TA beta 6b or whatever downlaod and gave it a couple of games. It is as wonderful as ever but I haven't really noticed a BIG difference b/w this and DA. I know the tech trees are all race customized but I found that effect to be largely homogenized later game due to extensive trading between races. Are their race-specific techs that others cannot acquire by any means (buying, stealin
I've played a variety of 4X games over the years and I find the key to enjoyment in just that - variety. SOTS had a rocky start but with the patch and addition of Born of Blood (BOB) expansion has matured into quite an interesting game once you get used to it. I find myself playing GalCiv2, SOTS-BOB, and SOASE (all 4X variants) for different reasons and enjoying all of them. As far as good games go - the more the better. I would recommend you play SOTS-BOB as well as the others.
I love this mod but I have one question. I find the red triangle placement indicators to be so large and become so numerous that I can hardly see my design buried in all those hardpoint sites. Is there anyway you can omit or minimize the size of all those placement markers??? THANKS!
Problem: want the expansion on my home computer but unwilling to download it via dialup modem Solution: download it at work via T1 line and then transport home for install Question: can you do this? I seem to remember that when purchasing via download, you could only install/play on the same machine used for the download Can anyone clarify this? THANX
One thing I've been disappointed by in GC II is the lack of morality checks and random events so endearing in GC I. I can understand the lack of anomalies given the large number of races competing for their discovery. But I have played through two entire games (medium maps) and have had only one morality check and zero random events. Is anyone else having this problem. Is there anyway to modulate the frequency of checks/events. <img src="smiles/Laugh.
OK - I'm logged in and registered (gc2 website). I go to the download tab and try to get 1.0X or whatever and get the following message: Error 4: Invalid Serial Number. What's Up???
Someone enlighten me please. Whenever I attempt custom ship design - no matter how careful I am - my add-ons always end up sideways, backwards, upside down, etc. I cannot seem to understand how you confirm orientation when approaching a hardpoint. Should you zoom? View top down? Also, when you want to duplicate the same weapon or item at multilple hardpoints, how do you get them all the same size - is there a copy/paste mechanism? Please Help!! <img src="smiles/Gasp.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmi
Consider yourself LUCKY. I live in the U.S. and still have not received my box edition. Guess it doesn't pay to pre-order if you get the game more than a week after it retails.
I pre-ordered ages ago and paid for the disk copy shipment. In lieu of the 2/21 retail date, when do the hardcopy pre-orders ship and from where do they ship. Thanks (Can't wait!) Humane
The other question is when will hardcopy pre-orders ship from Stardock directly (in anticipation of retail availability or only after retail arrival)???
OK - first I can't get the GC2 icon under the games tab when logged onto the latest version of stardock. Today, I'm prompted to upgrade to a yet newer version of Stardock (which I do) and now cannot even log onto stardock. WOW! Fifty dollars well-spent. If this is the future of download gaming, please point me to the nearest Gamestop.
