I think GalCiv would go a long wayyy towards a more Roleplaying feel if Brad created a series of messages or questions that the AI could deliver whenever it comes to trade with you. Instead of the trade screen going straight to "we want this [tech] for that [tech]" Rather it would start up with a short paragraph or statement by the race (for example the Altarians theorizing on the simularities between themselves and the humans) OR it might ask a morale question that the pla
You can take a screenshot in any windows application (including GalCiv) by pressing the Print Screen button on your keyboard. This will copy the screen to the clipboard. Open up your favorite graphics app such as paint shop pro, photoshop, etc. and paste the screen cap into it. Hope this helps! :) PS - specifically for Adobe Photoshop you need to open the program then select file -> new and it will default to the size of your screen cap. Hit ok to create the new blank file and
O.k. so I couldn't wait for you to try it... so I went and did it myself ;) If you set the AI to zero then the computer races DO NOT seem to try and research the tech. You can still sell it to them, but not for very much (I mean really not much... like a couple of bc - less than 10 or so! :p ) No matter WHAT you set Final Frontier to the AI won't research it (and of course you can't give it to them because once you get it... you win! ;))
Try it and see... and report your results! But to answer your question - there are several late game techs that do not have an AI setting at all (all of the 4D techs for example) By warned though that the AI setting might also be used to determine how much an AI values a tech in trading (for example try to sell Stellar Cartography and see how much you can get for it :notsure: ). So if you want a valuable tech then an AI setting of zero may not work for you. Hmmm... I w
Color request - please consider changing the green text to a darker shade (or another color such as orange, etc.) OR maybe add RGB entries to the English.str :d yummm A lot of people have complained about having trouble between discerning among the 2 colors (yellow & green) and I admit that I find it difficult to tell on the diplomacy / trade screen when the text switches. My suggestion for the big 5 colors: Red Yellow Orange Blue Purple (I'm not su
Sorry Cari, Moved these both (mine & HawaiiFive-0) to the bug list where they belong. Feel free to kill this thread and the planet details screen bug thread! ;p Thanks!!! :D
From HawaiiFive-O: Oh, and CariElf, if you do check out this thread, there are a few problems with the Tech files too. Here are the 4 bugged techs, they are all in GCTech.tech: High Density Metals Tri-Strontium Alloy Advanced Slavery Nano-Mining All of these techs are marked with the Ability "Production", but grant no bonus. This is because the game won't recognize the "Production" attribute. Change "Production" to "SocialProduction" or "MilitaryProduct
Missing .bik files / errors in .imp files: The following improvements are missing .bik files or have spelling errors causing them not to display the correct animation in the planetary build list. This is as of 1.03A57 (my appoligies if this is already fixed in the stand alone or in the 1.04 beta) 1. Galactic Monument - syntax error Model "GalMonument" should be Model "GalacticMonument" 2. Orbital Hospital - syntax error Model "AgentaCenter" should b
Bug in planetary details screen: All of my planets show no value listed next to planet quality on the planet details screen (though they DO show it on the main planets screen). The screen I am refering to is the one you get when you press the details button on a planet. Using version 1.03A.57 Sorry if this is already addressed / fixed / or reported. ;) Thanks! :)
All of my planets show no value listed next to planet quality on the planet details screen (though they DO show it on the main planets screen). The screen I am refering to is the one you get when you press the details button on a planet. Using 1.03A.57 I'll put this in the bug reports thread as well. (you know the thread that's like 470+ messsages long and growing... ugh... I hate wading through that thread - thank goodness I'm not a dev! ;))
Sorry that bit about reclining should have included that it's hard for me to tell no matter how I sit at the computer. I have to really lean in and study the monitor to see the green. (didn't want to sound like I was too lazy to just sit up and play the game! :D) Also I tried playing with color settings and display settings, but it didn't help except to make the screen darker (and throw my photoshop settings all akimbo ;))
*sigh* I never had a problem distinguishing between the yellow and green in the game until I noticed that I was having trouble on the diplomacy screen today. Dunno why but the yellow and green that changes for a good trade seems harder for me to spot unless I'm watching it instead of the slider :notsure: The only way I can tell for sure is when it darkens to green... I never thought I had any colorblindness (until now!) Actually checking again, I CAN tell that it's green, but
Well you can get free 30 day trials of Adobe Photoshop, JASC Paint Shop Pro, and ACDSee. For free you might want to look at irfanview here: http://www.irfanview.com/ Though it's mostly for display and conversion rather then a tool for creating art from scratch, but it should work great for resizing and converting images to .pcx for use in GalCiv. Maybe some others can recommend free paint programs / tools / filters. Dunno about 3D programs... on the commercial
There's a seperate sticky thread on this, but if a release is marked as "beta" then only Drengin.net subscribers can get to it (because of security measures on stardocks servers). The various incremintal releases (for example 1.03A.57) can be downloaded through the SDC by anyone who has bought Galactic Civilizations. The "stand alone" releases are hyperlinked ON the GalCiv.com website in the downloads section and do not require the SDC program. These are consider very stable re
This is not outside the realm of possibility... I think Brad has stated before that he would like to expand the game further with trade raiding ships and expanded piracy. As Freddybear points out though couldn't you manually steer your warships to civilian targets? Although I admit it would be "easier" to have an auto-attack feature to target civilian craft, but only becuase it's hard to spot the small freighters. You know this brings a feature suggestion to my mind...
Sorry Cari, I hate singling you out for a bug report... but you're so... well... responsive! ;) (seriously I like a lot of people appreciate your support and responses to our posts :) Thank you!) on to the bug report: The following improvements are missing .bik files or have spelling errors causing them not to display the correct animation in the planetary build list. This is as of 1.03A57 (my appoligies if this is already fixed in the stand alone or in the 1.04 beta)<
I want 1.04! but I can't get at the betas (no Drengin.net) Oh the pain!!! (:( Please, please, please Stardockians consider moving 1.04 out of beta before leaving for E3! ;)
Here here here! I concur! ... or more simply... ME TOO! :D
I threw out a suggestion about this issue here: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=53680 Be interested in what others thought of it...
Hmmm... I'm o.k. with the current auto launch settings, but I agree about an over-ride or some different way of handling Colony Ships and Transports. No suggestion on that one right now (other then juist don't autolaunch them... which is kind of a sucky suggestion since it defeats the whole purpose of the autolaunch to begin with! :notsure: ) I think if a galaxy wide setting is put in the best place in the current GUI for it would be on the options screen...
Well a glance at the tech tree file (Gctech.tech) reveals that the highest AI numbers are for the starting "theory" techs (Communication Theory = 20, Defense Theory = 40, etc.) and the military techs (Battleship techs range from 40 to as high as 60!) Inversely Stellar Cartography has an AI of... one (1) ;) So it may be going out on a limb, but I would say that the AI tries to research / acquire techs with higher numbers over lower ones. :)
Out of curiosity what did you do to get it working... or what didn't you do in the first place that made it NOT work? :)
