I, without a doubt, avoid online play (against "strangers") for just this reason. For me, this appears to be a symptom of most/all RTS-type games. There becomes an obvious "best strategy" that early players learn that can maximize their situations to the wonderment of any newbie player. As others have stated, there's not much fun when you've spent 10 minutes setting up your little empire and exploring only to find a fleet of 100 ships already bearing down on you. For

One series that I thought of last night that I really enjoyed is the series of book by Julian May, which all go together: The "Saga of Pliocene Exile" 4-book series (the most "fantasy" of the bunch) The "Intervention" 2-book series The "Galactic Milieu" 3-book series

Some of the big SciFi/Fantasy series I've read in my life since a teen were the following. I tend to like to read books that are parts of bigger series: Dune (Herbert) Foundation/Robots/Empire novels (Asimov) Xanth (Anthony) - Entertaining and very light Dragonriders of Pern (McCaffrey) - I'm actually currently reading the books I never got around to reading before Ender's Game series (Card) - Although I'm not so hot on

I'm a bit confused by something here. Are the recent AI improvements that I'm reading about considered part of the recent upgrades to the "base" game? Or are they actually tied to the Entrenchment add-on? I'd be pretty surprised to discover that improved AI comes with the expansion pack, and isn't an integral part of the base game itself. (Although I can see how an expansion pack may necessarily have to adjust an AI to deal with new units, etc.) That woul

Three single player campaigns, similar to the three campaigns of Starcraft, Total Annihilation, Homeworld, or Supreme Commander. Each "level" of each campaign gets progressively more complicated and advanced, slowly marching the solo player through the tech tree, and introducing each subsequent new ship type and tech advances to help learn the capabilities of each ship in special circumstances that require the use of some specific aspect of the game (e.g. one mission is to build a colon

For me, a Thinkpad is all about the trackpoint. I've never used any laptop other than a Thinkpad, and absolutely LOATHE any other sort of pointing device. I'm totally powerless when handed a laptop with one of those stupid awkward touchpads on it. I'm really stunned that the trackpoint isn't more prevalent in other laptops.

Ok, I'll bite. I believe the tool Fraps is pretty popular for doing things like measuring game frame rates and recording movie videos in games. I don't think it's free, so there are some restrictions if using the free version. http://www.fraps.com/

I think Sins also has a similar look/feel to Homeworld, which is one of my all-time personal favorites. I loved Homeworld's "new" feel, the amazing soundtrack, the pace of the game, and mostly the amazing storyline that is unfolded during gameplay (wow, what a shock when Chapter 3 begins!)

I'd like to see some sort of map overlays to help me with certain types of informational queries - like "where are all my trade ports located", what planets have research labs on them, and how many on each?, etc. Sometimes it takes a lot of searching around to find the facilities I'm looking for.

Regardless of the answers to the questions, and all the complicated solutions and work-arounds to the issue, it sounds to me that this is an ideal suggestion/request for a new "feature" in an upcoming release. And an extremely simple one to implement - simply adding some text to the screen to indicate what the sliders to from one end of their scale to the other. I.e. More vs. Less, - vs +, bigger vs. smaller, whatever...

The first PC I ever bought myself came with SimCity and Myst. It was a whopping 90Mhz Pentium with a 15" display for nearly $3000. That night, my wife went out with friends as I sat down to try SimCity. When she returned several hours later, I was still sitting there - barely noticed she was gone. But way before that was me and my trusty Atari 800. Can't remember the first games I played on it, but always loved the old EA games like Archon, Hard Hat Mack, and such....no

I've only played through two small solo games, and don't have the game handy right now, but I do remember wormhole traversal to be a researchable tech. I really enjoy SoaSE, and I have mixed feelings about the amount you have to learn about the game through trial-and-error. In general, I like games that don't spell out everything you need to know through the tutorials and game manual - sometimes it's fun the first few games to learn on your own. This is one place, however, where SoaSE
