There are a few article that one cannot access ... they start at AID=316 or something like that. When hitting on "comment", I get a "article does not exist" error. For instance, hit "politic", and select "comment" in the first article. Great post, Larry. I was in the US (I still am) when the decision was taken to go to war, and I did hear many people disagreeing with the assessment of the danger (but I work in a university, where people seem to disagree most of the time with the decision taken by the administration, so this does not mean anything). But as you said, from a practical point of view, the US and UK armies are in Iraq, and it is not clear what their mission is. In fact I believe it would be bad for Iraq were they to

This is sadly true, Draginol. People who have the most influence in a democracy, by sheer numbers or other means, will be able to orient the whole nation. I do not know however how to fix such a thing.

Too bad, the nice thing was afterward, when the author explains how journalist prefer to attack on small things (he slept with he secretary) than on big things, as the latter may be read as political partisanship. I like the way he presented his point. I'm also surprised that the only thing you disagreed with was the economy. Do you agree with the other lies ?

I think that your stance on piracy is one of the two reasons I think Stardock is great. The other one is the software you develop ;-) I know that when I buy something from your company, I'm not just buying a bunch of bits, but I also know a community is being built around the program or game, and that matters a lot to make it worthwhile.

I'm not too good at history, but when did they declare major fighting over in Europe for WW2 ? I thought it was way into 1945 ... And I'm sure that the media were naming resistants "terrorists" then, unless that term was not coined yet. You would be amazed if you listened to French radio: more than half the songs are in English. It would surprise me if French died altogether (it is spoken in many places ... such as the neighbourhood I live in in Philly where many people are from Senegal). And it bodes well for a country to have its inhabitants speak several languages ;-)

I agree there seems to be a bias in the media, or something weird going on (as I posted in my Wilongate article). But as a tongue in cheek rebutal, I would say that the news that the media choose not to report are the ones that would weaken the conservative side of a give debate ;-) And this health story did not seem to last long ... I cannot find it on CNN front page anymore (but it's still in the NY times).

I think it all boils down to a notion of services, and how many services is the government supposed to provide. At the bare minimum, there is basically no government: you build your own roads, you fight your fires and neighbours, you educate your children. Then people may decide to pool resources together, and that some services are due to every citizens. Of course each citizen has some duties, the most important ones being voting and paying taxes (that is participating to society).

Anthony, I do not know toward whom your comment was directed, but I fail to see how it makes a point. It sounds a lot like the propaganda "if you're not with us, you're a terrorist". And it feels a lot like one does not have an answer. The sad part is I'm not surprised anymore.
