How often have other dev studios have NOT listened to feedback from their Alpha and Beta testers... and churned out horrid titles? I'm gonna give SD and IC credit for listening to the hands that feed them. Granted its gonna push the title back, but I would certainly wait for something I enjoy playing (and recommending to friends) rather than playing another sorry excuse of a software that I won't even pick up from the bargain bins.

The atypical game design problem - how to make a game realistic (without insulting their audience's intelligence) yet fun (and not dumbed-down). Because IMHO FUN is different for everyone. I believe that if a game was true blue realistic, it would suffer in the long run. I do welcome elliptical orbits, gas-giants, asteriod fields, celestial phenomenon that will affect ships navigation or shielding, yet there must be balance. I think the biggest problem most gamers have is the size of th
the devs talked about sense-of-scale in another thread (think it was the solar system thread, could be wrong) and that from their game-balance testing, the current scale we see in the beta was the best balance they found for gameplay and gamer perception. there was even talk of a special mod or something like that, check out the solar system thread. anyone has a link? however i am sure they would welcome further feedback on that. right now beta 1 is about client stability.
Ironclad and Stardock must not have any former EA employee's as they have yet to be corrupted by money and still care about the people playing their games... Blasphemy! You mentioned Stardock and E-A in the same sentence! May the jabber of a million Tolians burn ur eardrums.... j/k Glad that IronClad and Stard
I for one welcome our Great Button of Mystery Overlord... ok its a cliqued meme but oh well.
thanks all for the replies and lordkosc, yeah i saw that thread about the music distribution issue thus the 'contents' above, but i included *music* just to be pedantic
perhaps use FRAPs to capture the video, encode it and upload it to show us? this will require the use of other software like probably ulead's video editor which is available for free trial and pretty good for most purposes. i think you PC should be able to handle the capture at a lower resolution setting.
this might be a drastic measure, but perhaps re-download the beta again? and see if that helps? i was thinking prior to your problem if it was possible to download to another folder or drive for testing purposes... guess this might come in handy.
Just to clarify with the devs and community managers. + we can post ingame images online. + we are free to discuss the game online. + we can share gameplay vids online. + we cannot share or distribute the game's contents online (including music)
Does that mean Beta 2 will be several months off as well? Or just that entry to the Beta program will be closed on Wednesday. And does that mean the current batch of testers can still contribute to the beta progress?
Thanks LodossKnight for that clarification. Did any of the devs clarify if the colored lines of the space-lanes translate to the 'cultural' spread from one planetoid to the next? And if the line touches an opposing gravity well, it will remove the fog-of-war? Income as in taxable planetary income, trading income or blackmarket trades?
one side question - is it possible to rename ships?
Sinn3d - thanks for that humble reminder. Admittedly I got over-enthused about the feedback that I forgot the primary focus of the current Beta. will certainly try to replan some tests to do so.
Thanks Yarlen & Devs for opening up this forum Would modding tools be necessary or will SoaSE be mod-able w/o those. ala light/heavy script editing to edit gameplay or adding graphical edits etc (advanced tools will certainly be needed if one wants to design new model meshes for starships)
You can hover the mouse over the research icons to read up what each does, the requirements needed to complete the research and figure out if they are what you need.
Perhaps a 3rd type of research could involve 'diplomatic' relations. Ala GalCiv 2. +Diplomatic relations could improve or give your empire an advantage over opposing empires, making them friendlier to your trade proposals or treaties. +Diplo research could also improve intelligence of an opposing empire's make-up, technology level, fleet intel, planetary intel etc. +And what empire-styled game could be w/o spies or a personal spymaster! perhaps let the assist in 'controlling' th
Multiana thanks for the vids. Good work, though the audio does sound abit muted. The weapons sound fx I believe suffers from the same audio stuttering that is being reported.
The Good: Camera control and zooms feel more stable and less erratic. Closing the program will not create a memory leak any longer. Great work fixing this! The Not So Good: Audio stuttering still exists. Getting prompted about 'hostile approaching' can be nerving especially with a large empire and enemy fleets jumping in and out of your own gravity wells. The Bad: AI diplomacy needs improvement, very fickle and changes their stances way
Did you try using the jump interdictor orbital structure? I believe it was supposed to stop enemy ships from jumping away (to your inner planets). But later tech allows scout ships to ignore jump interdictors. opps. tall king replied before I did. yeah same idea, different name
How do we use Armistice effectively? Is it a sort of 'pause' button that allows fleets to 'pause' combat inorder to recharge shields / armor / antimatter?
Did anyone else think some of the completed research icons looking similar to the non-researched icons? At a glance sometimes I can't make out if I researched an item. I had to hover the mouse over the research icon to read the text description. eg: refined lasers. Some of these icons have grey or dark backgrounds and thus can be mistaken that the research node has not been researched. Another point might be that unresearched icons be greyed, semi-complete research to be partia
Its certainly too early to talk about this, but perhaps in future the game might allow us to add our own personalized Empire logos? And be able to select them during the starting game menu.
impressions of the beta played @ 1920x1200 resolution. 1. difficult to locate opposing forces when zoomed out. had to rely on the left unit bar to target enemy ships. it would be good if the enemy icons were larger or scaled appropriately at different zooms. 2. when new units or structures are completed, i am usually alerted by the audio feedback from the game. sometimes i noticed the 'completion text'. but it would be nice if the icons for the units flash in the unit maps, or
I noticed that when I quit the game, the process still stays resident in memory. Takes up about 20MBs of RAM resources. Noticed this issue with both March 27 - v0.60.003 and March 29 - v0.60.004 release. I can duplicate it whenever I quit the game. Another comment. I was one of those who had the IntroMovies and Resolution bugs with the March 27 - v0.60.003 release. I did get the beta to work with the solutions listed above in this same thread - editing the user.setting file
For some reason, when I use Live Bookmarks for the Sins forum RSS, it always dumps me to the Official Sins page. Is this intended?
