This is the Stardock strategy that I cannot get on board with especially during a time when all parties are still waiting for the final court ruling on F&P's IP case. It makes me really sad and sick to my stomach. Again, I really wish Stardock didn't do that.
They did try to avoid it, but Reich and his fellow Copyright Fascist backed Stardock into a corner.

That I'd have to regretfully and respectfully disagree on...if for no other reason than if that were the case then random no talent hacks - and not a respected company like Stardock - out there could put out Star Control games by the dozens and pollute

We took great pains to reboot it all in the hopes that someday, Paul and Fred would return to continue their story. We just didn't expect them to show up 5 days before our big day and represent it as the TRUE sequel to Star Control while simultaneously attacking us online.
They are not going

I stand by my point that Reich and his pal will most likely never finish the game, it was a PR move so they wouldn't look like dicks for acting like Copyright Facists, nothing more. So while I agree that SCO will probably be good, it's not even necessary to point that out. The fact is, it will be FINISHED, and Reich's game most likely will NOT be.

I personally think the colony limit is too low, people who play on bigger maps will quickly be overwhelmed by such a low limit. Though, this can perhaps be mitigated by having colony limits be determined by map size (similar to research multipliers in GC2, but much more pronounced). Also, there needs to be a tool to macro manage this, so that it doesn't become an annoyance for people who want to solely or exclusively use a specific government type or two.

Fred and Paul arguably aren't even capable of providing a new Star Control game based on their body of work over the last two decades (exclusively developing mediocre money grab games). Fred and Paul have done nothing to prove a real intent to make a new game (they could have found a way to make a new Star Control if they wanted to, fanboys need to stop giving them unlimited b
No, it's a real thing. Star Trek, Star Wars, and Babylon 5 have a "formula" that runs through them. They share a set of qualities that other sci-fi stories don't have. It's not "semantics", it is a tangible thing. One of those qualities, to give just one example, is "scope and scale". Those stories aren't about "a fictional world" or "the humans". They are about "a fictional galaxy". That is just

I was not "switching to semantics" and I imagine almost everyone who read it, unlike you, completely understood what I was saying. Parody is granted particularly wide latitude. That's why I can call the "hell" of my own story the "Eternally Unstuck Reflection of the Dark Side of Armageddon" (a dual Babylon 5 & Star Wars reference). Reference and parody is allowed, artists don't have the kind of total ownership and control that you ar
Essentially a patent is on invention. copyright is for art. With a patent you get a limited time of exclusivity for your invention, but then it becomes public domain for the benefit of all mankind. Invention and art are very different things, the benefit to humanity of invention is tangible. While invention should become public domain, the creators should have a period of exclusivity in making money on their invention.&n
