Another tip-canned or frozen fruits and vegetables tend to be cheaper as well. They're not as good as the fresh but they're alright, (especially frozen,) and have all the same nutrients. But you're right. I'm a vegetarian, and while I think it tends to be cheaper in restaurants it can be as much or more expensive in the store, especially is I get a protein substitue like seitan or fancy tofu.
