love the game, i really do.
but the lack of choice in most units sucks. its all spam 2-3 diff types of units (now light carriers).
Im drawing up a mod... no an unofficial expansion.
This expansion i want to correspond kinda to the entrenchment add-on they are doing.
1. new ships, frigs cruisers capitals and im adding super capitals (one per player max). thinking of 2 per race so you have a choice.but more ships! how about a cruiser loaded with long range phase batteries? or proper battlecruiser classing with 4-5 battlecruisers. fast hard hitting low hp/regen. improved anti fighter/bomber ships (cruiser sized support vessel). give the player who built eco and research a little bigger toy 
2. some new research tech. these will benefit the new ships mostly.
3. some new structures. im not 100% sure on what the new entrenchment update will bring. but i want to add support structures with dual abilities. like ships that cant move. like a anti siege tower that can disable its weapons to repair itself, these would be very slot intensive but provide a hard hitting defense. limited range so placement would be key. thinking like vasari would have planetary shields, vasrasi the dread tower, tec an ewar type tower that disables up to 5 ships per tower untill they or the tower are killed.
