Combat results

How does one view the results of a combat? I would like to see what the enemy is using and the stats of his ships.

Check the combat viewer settings in the options, and set them approproately so that you can use the viewer on any battle (mainly that battle length is set to full and the only when both sides are fleets option is disabled).
