Sins Beta 1 - Technical Feedback - *Post Here*

This thread is for technical feedback for Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 1. 

Please reply to this post if you'd like to make: a bug report, let us know about a compatibility issue, graphics issues, performance reports, etc. (i.e., technical stuff).

Before making a report, please be aware that the minimum system requirements for Beta 1 are:

  • Windows XP SP2 / Vista
  • 1.8 GHz Processor
  • 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM for Vista)
  • 128 MB 3D DirectX Video Card
  • DirectX 9.0c

IMPORTANT:  When making a post about a bug, be certain to include - your system specs, a description of the bug you encountered, what you were doing when the bug occurred (how to reproduce it), and if it was reproducible or not.  We won't be able to make changes to the game without detailed information.

If you encounter a crash, please install SmartException from the Free Stuff section of Stardock Central and reproduce it (if possible). Send the generated exception to: sinsbugs(at)stardock.net along with a detailed description as outlined above.

And why is the total zoom out locked? cant see the solar system from far away anymore


I was able to zoom all the way out... Saw all 3 solar systems in my Galaxy...

found out the problem. It only happens when you got 1 solar system.

It should be possible to zoom as far out no matter what

ah ha! never tried it with 1 solar system... come on and man up... play with at least 2

I'll give this a try when I get home. To add more confirmation to the fact.

Also, ive found out that the tradeships do not trade anymore

That is because the nifty new trade ports do not BUILD any trade ships. Man am i broke now. What did the trader ships decide to go on strike?

When i changed one of the skyboxes, the trails of fighters disappears, and the cap ships trails becomes white.

This only happens when ever i load a game.
A new game it works fine.

@Yarlen - A screen print of what I'm trying to explain has shown up in the "Thoughts So Far" thread. Put there by Legerdemain. The same thing happened with the latest release .010 when I started the game. This also happens on the game load screen.

Another bug, or is it a gameplay issue?

Oh well here it comes.
When ever a ship has to travel from one side of a grav well to the other, it take about 5mins to travel. As the ship travels in a straigt line. But when it gets near something like a planet or one of the mineable asteroids, it just comes to a complet stop.
The i see different things happen. Some times it will turn very slowly and then go in a big circel around it. Or it could just go straight up from the thing that is blocking its patch, and then tryed to turn around it like before, just upwards instead.

I havent taken the time for how long it takes. But my guess it about 5min

The travel times is one of the primary reasons why we previously allowed jumping through gravity wells. Even with improved pathfinding (next build) or the complete removal of objects in the way, it will still take what we feel is too long. Regardless, it was easy enough to let the community try it out and see how they felt.

The obvious solutions to reduce that time are to make the ships faster and/or the gravity wells smaller but the problem with those is that many people actually want the ships slower and the gravity wells larger.

It's a difficult problem but we are working hard to find something that works.

Maybe the pathfinding in the next beta fase will make it better though.
Then we will see how it turns out

We already tried removing any objects that would get in the way. This means the ships don't even need to do pathfinding and we still find it too slow. In otherwords, no matter how good the pathfinding gets, the problem will still exist. We are looking into other ideas.

Hmm, maybe some afterburners could solve it.
They ofcourse cant be used all the time.

Oh my! You guys are amazing for finding stuff we can't recreate no matter how hard we try - apparently we missed a condition If at all possible could you send a save game where that happens to [email protected]? Also, if you could describe what steps led up to it or how to recreate it that would be great.
