Functional parts for jewelry?

Is there a way to use the functional graphics as just jewelry? Like the default colony ships 2 colony modules.

My mod includes the 'special' modules as jewelry, including colony. There are other mods that cover the rest, but they haven't been updated lately that I'm aware of. So I might roll that option into the next version.

No, no mod that adds new ship designer pieces is metaverse compatible. There is a metaverse-firendly version of my mod, but it only adds blank ship templates so you can build ships entirely from scratch. Anything more would require changing the game's .xml files and so can't be done without a cheat flag.
