High Res Screenshots = Graphics overload?

When I tried to take one of the high res screen shots of my fleet (Ctrl + Shift + Print Screen) The graphics totally freaked out. The best I can describe it is they went backwards about 15 years. It when to a very very very very low resolution and started scrolling around, very choppy, and finally the game crashed outright.

Athlon 4200+ CPU
Geforce 7 7900 GTX
2 gigs of RAM
Windows XP SP2 w/DX9.0c

It currently only works at 1024x768 and if you have LOTS of ram. Jumping around at low resolution is a natural part of the process.
