I figured since it is inevitable, I will start a thread to get ideas out on a star wars mod. Who will the sides be? What will the map look like? Units? Tech? etc.

Palpatine is sheer brilliance.
And although I always loved Vader, those recent movies where Anakin is played by that adolescent boy who just simply sucks at acting took away from the Vader image for me.

What do you think about make ground battles like in EAW (only a little bit bigger...)

I would like to promise something like this:

1. You build your Space Fleet :p
And build a ground fleet which will be loaded on special landing crafts
2. Conquer the planetary space!
3. landing crafts land on the planet ...and...
4. ground invasion (like, for example in EAW or Surpreme Commander)
5. Planet conquered!

Additionally, it would be very interesting to...
-fight in space and on planet ground at the same time
-be able to zoom [galaxy]>>[system]>>[planet space]>>[planet ground]

OK, I think all of this will be very hard to mod - but maybe... :LOL:

excuse my english - I'm only german - but I hope you understand what I mean!

You can't make ground battles in this game, it doesn't work like that, and besides that would be WAY to complex, trying to keep in a space battle while battling on the planet.

It could be done, but, probably only on a 1-5 Planet Scale, any more would be overwhelming...

And then he got backstabbed by his most trusted henchman while at the same time a tribe of care-bears wiped out a legion of his "crack toops".
Oh yeah... lets not forget that he nearly bankrupted his empire building a superweapon which the rebels destroyed in ten minutes using cheap fighters.

Kinda puts a little tarnish on his record there... :p

For ground invasions... maybe have ground attacker ships with a number of troops in them. when given the order "invade planet" they send down troops. there is a little bar on the planet that shows the progress of your troops.

Invading planets would be an option.

My opinion on the Mod Beta.

-gravity wells are too big for the camera
-I cannot tell the between the Imperator I class (ISD) and the Imperator I class (Venator) because they have the same name.
-Weapons are uber powerful against the normal 3 races
-No Nebulon-B escort frigate?
-It would be nice if the roles of the ships were more clearly explained (this ship is often used to scout for enemy bases...ect)
-Other than that it is awesome

camera is being fixed

naming issues are being addressed

the other three races are not meant to be balanced with the mod (seriously if you it so bad volunteer to HELP instead of whining)

neb-b had a crash error, the file is there but it would cause yo uto crash to desktop so no dice for now

That is the best answer. Eville is doing most of the work by himself, and I'm sure he has a life outside of this. So I say be happy with what you can get.

And for those of you who don't check out his page for information. His latest news post there:

THere is slow but steady progress on the SOGE mod, many of the issue I have been having are due to the model exporter and crashes with vessels on the Alliance side. I may release in the meantime a limited alliance side with fixes and suggestions from the previous version soon.

i gotta say that palpatine is a complete wimp. you never actually see him fight except in one movie when he pwns yoda. but still, in a real combat against someone his own size, he wimps out and tells some dude with a buch of robot parts to kill the other dude for him. all he does is sit in his freking chair and smile like an egotistical maniac. anyway, its good that he died cuz it allowed for better sith lords to take over again and real leaders to take control over the empire. say oh, thrawn. he even almost gets killed by mace windu, he would be nothing without vader, that is why vader is much much better than palpatine. even dooku is a better sith lord.
