Star Wars Mod

Star Wars Mod

I figured since it is inevitable, I will start a thread to get ideas out on a star wars mod. Who will the sides be? What will the map look like? Units? Tech? etc.

Well, 7 Deadly Sins has a (mostly) balanced Empire.  It only took them 3 releases!

Dreadnaughts were about 80 YEARS pre clone wars as per link

The edit button usually shows up if you switch over to another Stardock site real quick.

That does make me wonder though: Would the pirates even have fighters? Or would them have, like, modified transport ships/ small frieghters? I mean, as I've said before, I do love me some Viper/Virago fighters, but if we're not going to be fighting the Black Sun, then would there be any pirate fighter/bomber squadrons at all?

Fighters and bombers are more or less omnipresent in SW.

fair enough, but if we look at this from a pirates point of view, fighters are close to useless: they can only fit usually around 1 to 2 people, they may be quick but they are quite fragile, and they have no real boarding capabilities. Anti-fighter support? Leave that up to the anit-aircraft auto turrets. A pirates goal is not so much destroy the target, but cripple it, capture it, kill/enslave the crew, and either keep the ship or salvage it. Now, Bombers I could understand, as they could be used to take out a victim's engines, but I can't really see fighters as being useful by pirates....

...but none of that really matters since the pirates in Sins really can't do anything BUT destroy your stuff. Thus, my whole arguement is useless. But te questions till remains: what kind of fighters would they use? After the battle of Endor and the whole mess with the Black Sun and Xizor, the Vergao/Viper fighter design was offered up for massproduction by MandalMotors. Granted, it was an inferior design to the original, but still....

The can easily use z95's cloakshapes and then a huge number of other fighters ranging from y-wings to preybirds

as for progress I am getting close to having the alliance ships in so it shouldn't be that much longer.

Yay!  Finally a side besides the Empire!  Any chance of the Rebellion making it into 7 Deadly Sins?  Oh and, make Mon Cals have those near-invincible shields they are known for.  Gotta love Mon Calamaris and redundancy.

fighters are very important in almost any space battle, think of it when a squad of bombers are in position its all well and good but the easiest way to destroy or protect those bombers is not a massive ship with massive cannons of turbolasers its the little ships that do that job. If you remember an a-wing set up a super star destroyer do be destroyed at the end of episode 6 by crashig into the command centre.

But the Capital Ships set up the A-Wing by breaking through the Executers shields

And the Fighters set up the capital ships up by helping to kill the giant swarm of fighters/bombers

This will have my interest as long as we keep anything from Episodes 1, 2, and 3 out of it completely.

Fighters for pirates should be Z-95 and uglies generally - in keeping with books etc... (e.g. X-wing series)

X-wing is one of the greatest star wars subseries; aaron allston has to be one of my favorite authors. and, yes, i realize it's meaningless post, but i had to throw that out there

Time to kill some DIE-wings.

exactly, without fighters the big ships are screwed, without capitols then fighters are screwed.

Unless those fighters are Tie Defenders or Missile Boats then they'll probably be alright

Hi everyone. I got the beta for this mod and loved it, it all looks amazing. Great job evillejedi. but i was a little disapointed to not have the executor, will it be in the next update.

Hi Ashley19.  I am not sure how well the Executor class or the Eclipse class would work within Sins.  As it is now, they would be awefully large for the maps (even with the gravity wells being oversized as they are).  Also, Eville still has to deal with limited ship slots per faction (at least Stardock increased that a bit).

Still, I have a hard time seeing Eville not toss in the Executor class at the very least.  Maybe he'll decrease its size a bit to make it more practical.

Well Eville tries to go canon with scaling.  So an Executor would be almost as big as a Sins planet.  Step one is to re-seize planets with new meshes/texxes.  So Coruscant will be really freaking huge compared to your puny conquest fleet.

Kinda take the edge out of conquering if your fleet of Star Destroyers is rendered miniscule by the planet they are conquering.  Or maybe it just makes it more epic.

I tend to think it makes it more epic.

The problem is that having even bigger planets with enormous super star destroyers = no room for your ships to actually move without collisions.

Personally, I think that the ships should all be cut down in size by 20-25% and the planets increased by 50% (using the present gravity well size).  That would leave the capital ship details still visible.  It would also allow super capital ships to operate.  Finally, the enlarged planets would be more epic (besides, I don't like ships being as big as planets).

Just my two cents on the issue.

Yeah, having planets dwarfing your biggest ships makes for much more epic battles.  In Sins I kinda feel like I'm fighting over marbles, not planets.  If we increase the gravity well by A LOT, and change some of the camera stuff so you don't have trouble finding stuff, and make ships and planets canon, then we have some epic battles.  Now all we need are buttloads of metal/crystal roids at planets so we actually feel like we are mining stuff.

Ok thanks EmperorParadoxnt I'd love to see the executor in the mod, but if its not i can still have loads of fun just building lots of star destroyers. Just one more thing don't know if any of you will like it. I don't think the Victory should be a capital ship, but a cruiser instead. But I don't know if that would be accurate or not.

Well, the Victory is TECHNICALLY a Star Destroyer, even though it is really, really, small.  It is a bit bigger than a standard cruiser, so it doesn't fit anywhere.  Although, the name "Victory Star Destroyer" kinda mandates it to be with the other Star Destroyers.

Well fair enough then just didn't seem big enough to be classed as a capital ship to me but if TECHNICALLY it is mandated then thats the way it is. cheers fellas
