I figured since it is inevitable, I will start a thread to get ideas out on a star wars mod. Who will the sides be? What will the map look like? Units? Tech? etc.

Love that mod. Makes FoC a whole lot better. Star Destroyers now actually destroy stuff. Lots of stuff. Seriously, EaW and FoC seriously messed up the Star Destroyer. This mod makes ALL Rebellion and Empire ships more canon-y, which is a good thing since now a capital ship seriously kicks ass.

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but I'm way too lazy to look through all thirty six pages to find the answer. Is there either a beta or a finished version of this mod ready for download, and if so, what's the link?

Oh, and if there is, it might be a good idea to edit the first post in the thread to include it so people don't have to look through all 36 pages to find it.

BluDragon64 has a good point; the problem is that i haven't seen much of Ideti once the actual development of the mod began. perhaps someone should message him...

Awesome. So will that be out very soon after 1.1 final or will we have to wait a few months after? And will that be the final version of the mod? And when is 1.1 final? And whatever happened to the expansion to Sins?

He never said he was stopping at the New Republic, just that a new version made for version 1.1 of Sins would have more of everything. I wouldn't mind being able to play as the Vong (obviously would play very differently from the NR and Empire, at least if Eville tries to go by canon for them, what with dovin basals reducing speed/turning to protect ship, rapid healing).

But, Eville never said the New Republic was the end for the mod, and just like Warlords, I expect this mod to keep going and going and going.

Maybe the great modder from here gifs it a tought. Over there i don't get mutch + respons. And maybe some dudes that have some experiance with map making can help me out with some small issus. Still fighting miself with the map making tool :LOL:

And think u will find some modders there who lend u a helping hand with models, icons and all if u contact them.

I can't wait for the full alpha release.


PS: Why not take the death star for SuperCannon? Just instead of boem there goes the naiberhood a long laser beam that can e seen reaching its target planed if u zoom out, like the ships that are traveling at hyperspeed. And planneds not to be blown away, just one shot kill, shield or no shields. And think of the enemy target, there see it and all their can say: INCOMING! And to think of Shock and arw tactics that way. (Yes i am a empire fan, so come and get me u filty rebels :LOL: )
Its just a idea, maybe someone els had same idea and postet it, i did not read all the pages. Its hard for me at it is to express myself with my dislexia.

I think most of the models for EaW/FoC mods are from Eville Jedi :)
He released a model pack that many mods use. So I don't think he needs help in that area.
Rather, he needs people who know Sins modding and can put ships into the game.

Hmmm.

I've been playing a few games on the version here, and a few balance issues (well, balance with respect to star wars in itself) seem to exist.

First - numbers seem very overblown. Not bad in itself... But a lancer frigate should live for a small while against a imperial star destroyer - the frigate itself is fairly large. It's not base damage that's overblown, but the 9k damage average or so after it goes up a bit. I was also curious on the possibilities of not just starting at the Carrack, Lancer, and gunships, too - but to add the option to use assault shuttles or something slightly smaller. And these respectively would be much cheaper.

Secondly, grav wells are much to big, and ships are much too small. Either the SD and other ships need to be a bit larger, and the grav well smaller, or the grav well just needs to shrink - probably fairly close to normal size. Now, if this has been discussed before... is there a way I can change this myself?

Now, enough of the criticism. Great mod, great models, good effects and sound. I think there isn't much left to do but balance it in the star wars fashion proper.

Eville has a lot of stuff done. And I think that if he has it done for HW2, he will have it here. Eventually. Reworking and rebalancing ships take a while. Yes, even the Vong will be included.

He made it bigger for the Death Star and the SSD (there's a picture of it on the Warlord's site).

Unfortunately, he didn't change planet size (I don't think) otherwise the planets would dwarf everything, including SSD's.

Yeah, the size comparisons are going to be off. If he could get in contact with someone creating the planets who could create larger ones, that'd help.

My main complaint, however, is tied in with the zooming. To zoom out and see the whole grav well, it takes you and zooms you out to where you see the planet and the rest of the area. Not sure what the differences in zoom levels are called... but from the planetary zoom to the system zoom, essentially. This creates awkwardness, especially with larger vessels coming in, because spreading a fleet around it, and having the ships, is going to mean you'll be doing a hell of a lot of scrolling, and you won't be able to take in the entire battle at once.

Secondly, in retrospect, you could also change cost and supply to balance it, too.

So, here's my suggestion to the map.

#1 - Take a few of the models and boost up size. Just slightly. At the moment, a star destroyer fades out with a zoom level or two. 10-20% increase, or so. If that's easily done with the meshes :/
#2 - Repeat with planets, if possible - much larger difference, though. A 30-50% size increase would be great.
#3 - Real gameplay changes here - take the Victory 1, and the second Imp 1, the cheap empire caps, and reduce them to large cruisers. Take the smaller large cruisers, and reduce them to frigates. Take the SSD and it's variations, a command cruiser and a carrier version, and use them as capital ships. Also, take the Death Star as an expensive capital ship, that uses abhorrent amounts of supply and resources to make. This has the effect of not directly limiting the smaller star destroyers on the scale as the large ones - they would be extremely expensive relative to the other cruisers, though.
#4 - Force the cap ships to cost money at the start. This serves a double purpose - no death stars at the start, and forcing you to build an empire - not start an empire running around with an SSD or something.

So, yeah - these are immediate suggestions that are coming to me.

I think EvilleJedi already has his list of frigates, cruisers and caps planned out (thank you Ironclad for raising the capital ship limit).

From what I understand, he is trying to balance the cost and power of several cruisers versus more powerful single capital ships.

I think I read in one of Eville's posts that he was planning on disallowing the free start capital ship.

Since this mods time period is supposed to be after the Battle of Endor, I am wondering about the tech tree. It wouldn't make much sense to have to research how to make capital ships...since it is already known how to make them. However, maybe the tech tree could be more about developing the infrastructure and building fabrication plants for actually making larger, more advanced vessels.

As far as Skellesi's complaint about the zoom issue, my only suggestion is you make more use of the Ctrl groupings.
