SpaceForce: Rouge Universe

Competition for Sins???

http://www.spaceforce-game.com/news2.aspx
I just got my hot little hands on this new release. And it appears to be smack full of Sins goodness. I have not had time to test drive it yet however.

Does anyone else know about it at all?

I've been watching this game for ages, all I really know about it is it looks awesome.

I'm itching to get my hands on it fortunately it comes out soon over here in the UK.

I don't think its really competition for Sins seeing as its more simulation than strategy, however you should check out SpaceForce Captains, competition maybe for GCII?

Yeah, I had some time to read the website and it appears to be a cross between a RPG/FPS and a sim/strat hybrid. Oddly enough it appears to have implemented many of the ideas people on these forums have been asking for for Sins to boot.

It also has some major specks and 64bit support to boot!

Best of all they took a page from SD and dont have it wrapped in any DRM crap.

I hope we can get some good sales numbers on this puppy in the future because I think it will be representative of what can be expected for Sins in my opinion.

it doesnt say anything about 64bit cpu support but it does say this:

True 64 bit HDR rendering if card supports it, HDR fresnel, HDR specular, HDR bloom and glow, star effect, tone mapping (adaptive exposure), HDR antialiasing, blue shift

64bit HDR? hmm, im not even sure that 8800GTX supports that..

Try it a Geforce FX 5500. 99.99% there will be a slow down (man I need a new computer)

I'm under the impression that 64bit HDR requires a 64bit CPU hence my comment. I'm not an expert however.

i think it will run fine, if you just turn down some graphics..

heres one of there preformace results:

CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ (Barton), 1833 MHz
MBO: ABIT AN7, nForce 2 400 Ultra
1024 MB DDR (2x512 DC 333 MHz)
Saphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
Seagate 80 GB SATA I (OS and game)
Seagate 250 GB SATA I (paging file)
5.1 sound card on board (N/A)

OS: WINDOWS Vista RC 1 Build 5600
Graphic Drivers: ATI Catalyst for WINDOWS Vista RC 1
MBO: Not available

IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. Since no drivers for MBO were installed there was no sound in benchmark. Therefore, results are slightly (1-3%) better.
2. Also note that paging file was located on the second HDD which increased performance by 15 to 20 %.

These options were selected:

Resolution: 1024x768
Antialiasing: None
All options High
V sync: OFF

1. SM 1.4, Lighting: Normal
Score: 11603.4
Max FPS: 120.0
Average FPS: 60.3
Min FPS: 5.0

2. SM 2.0, Lighting: Soft
Score: 10309.0
Max FPS: 100.0
Average FPS: 53.4
Min FPS: 10.0

3. SM 3.0, Lighting: HDR
Not supported

i guess your right atlast a game that will take advantage of 64bit.
Oh and Unreal 3 will support 64bit too

Woohoo!!! You guys are great!! I guess I'll get my official copy from SD then. I do hope you can do it sooner given you guys have major built-in market hungry for this methinks.

BTW: Something interesting for you guys to read from TwichGuru:

I tried the demo it was ok on graphic and etc. However the tutorial is somewhat wanting of more work. For example, They don't show you how to do stuff instead they tell you to approach this and such then only to say press the dock button but didn't said which button on keyboard. Expect to work a lot to learn how to do it. I had easier time learning how to do stuffs in Eve Online than this game.

yeah, I agree the tutorial was lacking big time to be sure. One really has to have read the user manual first and make a keyboard function chart to improve the learning curve.

Tell us how it goes after you play it for a while. I have also been interested in this game for a while and was counting down its release. I almost ordered it from Gamestop but a barrage of negative review is putting me off, and for such a game being released at a budget tittle does make those complain feasible. Most the complains seem not about the graphic but rather the gameplay, and I haven't fully recover yet after that run with DarkStar One

DSO - was a major let down in my opinion as well. So much was possible but so little was done.

Sadly enough I have not had much time to spend of this puppy yet. I did find some time to briefly to mess with the tutorial again yesterday and well I understand things no better then before I tried. This this thing is in need of some major documentation as well as a FULL rework of the tutorial.

Additionally the resolution is capped at high resolution specks for TVs. Why?? I see lots of potential in this title but sadly I dont have the time to really try it out right now.

The graphics are ok. I have it on 1680x1050,and everything else on high, along with all the extra stuff enabled. It about on par with WoW in graphics.

I only had time to fight one battle against a space pirate, It took me about 10 minutes of maneuvering and shooting to actually kill him.

I had to look in the manual to see what buttons did what , because at the start it gave me tips and stuff but never actually told me what keys to press to carry out those functions . So far the game is just ok.

tried the SpaceForce:RU demo, but found it wanting.... the combat system needed tweaking, difficulty settings (and other command options) were not intuitively displayed in the UI.

navigating a 3D world with a 2D spacemap took a while to figure out.
widescreen support wasn't working yet i think, but i could be wrong.
the not so inspiring space-gate feature, bookmarks,... list could go on. read the official forums for details.

the good thing about it was the mining, and upgrades that you could craft from the minerals you obtained from mining. anomalies that hinder or assist you in combat, factions to win favor or destroy... plenty of star systems to visit.
