It's a spy drone, it gives you vision on that sector for a little while.

- Hold Position ability

change to weapons range auto attack, its the same thing.

All capital ships need aa guns its just stupid that they dont. If i was going to make a ship id build aa guns as standard

S'what fighters are for.

I think the Marza's autocannon can target fighters... good with incendiary shells.

A last thought. I like the earlier-mentioned ability in the game to target groups of enemy ships by using stacking in the pips window, but I prefer to view my own ships non-stacked. Is it possible to make it an option that only enemy ships are stacked?

There is one major problem i have that i want to put forward. Im always running out of crystal !!! Crystals are always very limited to me ! so much so that i find myself using cobalts to do the work of battlecruisers that i cannot afford due to the crystal prices. Ive just about had it up to here with these outrageous crystals ! Please do something about them... Maybe make them spawn a little faster than ore or something, i really don't care its just driving me insane !

Massive, do you have any ice worlds? Crystals are found in abundance at ice worlds. The problem being that ice worlds seem very rare...
Sadly i can never find those blasted ice worlds ! i always get stuck with useless stuff like lava planets. grr. at least those look cool though. Anyway, i have never even seen an ice world and even if i did the comp would most likely be in control of it

Something else i may as well throw out there, Why does the kodiak (and its priate equivalent) look like big super armoured tanks ? I like calling them "shoebox-ships*, if they had a bit of a longer shape they would look a little more normal i guess, they just seem weird thats all.

This is something that's already being looked at for the next update. The galaxy generation is a bit messed up and not creating enough arctic planets.

@Yarlen - Would it be permissible for one of you guys to make a "working list" of issues you are officially pursuing or looking into with regards to development issues for this phase of the beta test? So we can all work from the same sheet of music so to speak.

The scout in game should have its speed doubled.... it is a SCOUT after all...

umm.. i'm doing a comp stomp allied with a hardleveled AI. me and that ai is on a single solarsystem with about 22planets vrs 2 Hlevl ai's. atm we're gaining but it is in a slow rate. might need to sneak in a colony ship a.s.a.p w/defensive frigates.

i get few harassments but nothing biggie. they (pirates) usually pass by everytime they see my platform defense barrel while they exit off hyperspace. ironicaly they are smart enough to try and scape rather than doing suicide stance.

scout frigates on a new whole issue, how bout suggesting an 'unrv' for advance research on tactical sensor sweep? -unrv 'unmannedreconosancevehicle'

another question, i cought. what is that small drone that the scout frigate drops on enemy planet before hypering out? just thought you guys noticed scout frigs with drones.

Auto explore for scouts is already implemented and will be in the next patch. Someone suggested it on the forums and I apologize for not giving credit to whoever suggested it but there are so many good ideas floating around that I can't remember who said what

An easy way to take care of gauss platforms guarding the entrance routes to a planet are to bring LRMs and carriers along with your fleet, and tell everything to only attack within weapons range. The way the AI spams gauss platforms put them in range of an LRM right from the jump. The only problem is that you have to tell your fighters and flak frigs to attack their bombers, other than that, you wouldn't need any microing.

This is why we reduced the range on gauss. It was too punishing to arrive in a system and get pounded and not be able to do anything about it. Now you can arrive with LRM's or bombers and take them out. However, fighters can be used to counter the LRM's and bombers so a good mix of gauss and hangar-defense is important for a successful defense.

That is how I prefer to play as well
What I usually do is selection the faction icon beside my ships and simply attack the enemy's faction icon.
If you are zoomed out you can also attack the round bar of pips around the planet as well.

- Retreating ships using the left bar.

When ships are selected

When mouse overlays the left bar.

Please show next to each planet - number of jumps required to get there.

This way , I know which planets are one jump away inorder to retreat my ships at a quick flick.

Often the only way is to do the "zoom out" way.

Thanks!

Sorry, this isn't something we'll be doing. Kryo puts together a roundup of all issues mentioned daily in the Beta Feedback forum (it's stickied at the top). People can check there to make sure their issue's been noticed by Ironclad and Stardock.

I expected as much given the nature of the business and the open beta system in place right now. I'm used to closed betas and private groups. Oh well thanks for the reply anyway.

This sort of is a closed beta, as you have to PAY to get in

In theory it should give a good test base for the game, but sadly people like Multianna got in too...

Hey guys.

Awesomeness in a game, and it's only the beta. Salivating at the idea of what we can do to it to make it all the more impressive.

My two cents worth:

1. Logistics has been a fine way to make planets an ever more important resource and has forced me to change my typical style of play in these games (usually sit back and then demonstrate my idea of "overwhelming force"), and while the consensus seems to be it a little too restrictive, I enjoy the fact that I need to adapt to the characterstics of the enivronment I'm presented.

2. I'm having the same problems with crystals like some other - ie: not enough and even with black market tech prices are up around 2-3k for 100 and my production can't support either construction or research let alone both... hopefully the ice world fix will help with this. Interested in how much the rate of metal/crystal income drops when asteroid is depleted.

3. While the pirates add an interesting aspect to the game, I feel that the AI are supposed to be the main adversary, and on medium all I seem to be doing is fighting off one or two pirates attacks and getting scouted every now and then by the AI who really aren't all that serious about kicking my tush. 5 piece fleets are about all I'm seeing come at me from the AI compared to the 20 piece pirate fleets currently kicking my tush. And I currently have the highest bounty on my head - so who are the AI killing? Pirates are fine if they are more random than systematic. Also please stop them killing worlds as fast as they currently are - The fleet sizes are fine, but maybe amp down their siege ability.

4. Transit lanes (forgot the proper word) are very hard to visualise in a large game with max systems/planets and provide a very easy way to become confusing. Maybe interlink the nearer ones instead of the spider's web I have no hope of planning a valid strategy through. (refer earlier picture posted)

[quote]

The galaxy generator seems to have taken a step back in gameplay. For example, I started a Large Galaxy game (with teams of 2-3-3-2) and 9-10 of the players started in the same system. It also has a tendency to create overlapping and confusing phase paths like so:

****************************************

Least researched techs - higher ones! also role-specific cruisers
Most researched techs - anything that will get me crystal or money/inprove my ability to kill stuff (ie. weapons/shield buffs)

Love your work,

Shaun

Let me clarify, the "information well" is publicly accessible to anyone so a vast majority of important information we as testers should have access to in order to save us time and facilitate more precise and productive input is locked away due to the nature of the beast.

As I have stated before I think think they should also run a private tester group as well as setup faction specific groups and allow people to be in only one group. Moreover the private tester group would of course have full access to all three factions.

around when will the patch come out?
on the last beta will we be able to test all the races? We should be because then we can suggest how to balance the game
Reply #194 Top
No set date on when the first Beta 2 update will be made available, but it could be this week. We haven't decided on when or if we'll be making the other two races available during testing.

For what it is worth I think if you do make them available you should force people to select one race version to test, stand alone, to put the other races through the paces as we are for the TEC. Then have a select group test a full functioning version with all three races. That way you guys can still maintain the air of secrecy to some degree and still keep the flavor of the candy in the jar until the official release.

At this time we have no plans to isolate a small group of beta testers for previleged testing.

OK. What is your position on stand alone race testing for the other races like the TEC?

If we did that it would have to be for everyone, as it's too time intensive to make separate builds with each race. At that point we're back to the option of making one or both of the other races available down the line (which we haven't decided on).

I think releasing them all at once would be best. A lot of the feedback so far has been gameplay-related and not TEC related.
