A ship idea.

A ship idea.

I would like to see one (and only one) new ship in Sins.

This ship is : The destroyer !
The destroyer would be a bridge between capital ships and cruisers and allow for less of a dependancy on capital ships and kodiaks late-game.

Destroyers would be multifunctional vessels, they would have 2 main weapon systems, dual gauss cannons to take out medium to heavy targets and about 4 Point defence anti-fighter guns. These ships would be able to hold 1 squad of fighters and would be the fastest late game unit you would have (second only to the scout vessels.) The destroyer would have no clear counter, it would be generaly good vs anything but not specialize in any specific roles. It would thus be quite a numerous vessel in ones fleet. Its size would be about about a quarter to about a half of the Kol's size and it would have slightly more hitpoints than the Kodiak. To prevent spamming, destroyers would take a long time to build (longer than any cruiser or frigate, but not as long as a capital ship, somewhere in between) and would have something around the price of 150 Crystal 800 Gold and maybe 500 iron. That way Destroyer spamming is out of the question. Since destroyers dont really excell vs any kind of unit you would need to support them with frigates and fighters to make them effective, they should become the backbone of your navy later on. Destroyer scanners are extremely effective and can cover a large area to help support your units.

Finaly, I think Destroyers should be added simply to mix up the current bland clear counters we have now. It would certainly be interesting to see them in the game !

The devs have no obligations to listen to our replies, or even tell us what they're considering it be nice if they would, but I don't expect such things.

their obligation is that they told us they would when I spent 50 bucks to sponsor their new buisness.

they aren't obligated to listen to you you mean

I have to agree with Ninja on this one, they owe us a little participation for our investment in the future of their company.

My comments where mostly in jest, I have a bad sense of humour but from experience in other games I can find it best if the devs stick to their own ideas, and merly get inspired by the community and listen to what they like, what they don't like rather than turning what's posted into direct content.

A few mmo's have been kinda ruined due to the constant changing opinions of the vocal forum majority, who are in fact - the minority of those who are playing the game.

The games going to cost as much as the pre-order anyway, but it is a leap of faith I suppose putting money into something so early on, but then you do get to play it 8 months or so before it's released so I guess it has it's other advantages.

What I was saying is that it would be nice to for them to take our opinions and act on them, the only good thing I can say about SOTS is that the dev team that made it does listen to their fanbase.

Which has created an almost cult like following, which can help build the longevity of products in the digital domain.

Not actually talking about wow but close enough!

I'm willing to believe it, though of course they care alot about money - any game producer wants to be succesful and usually the best way is listening to the people who are going to buy the game.

Enough spoon nonsense

The destroyer idea is not bad althought there is a risk of spam.

Since the subject is creating a new ship, allow me to share my idea with you.
I am thinking of a super capital ship, a flagship if you will, which you could construct only one.
The flagship will be completly customizable including name and size since it's supposed to be the player's personal ship.
It will of course cost you a lot of ressources and time, and it will symbolize your empire's power and wealth.

This ship should be nearly invicible but there is no risk of spamming it since there can only be one.

So what do you think ?

.....The.....destroyers.....Could fire.......SPOONS

I'm sorry.
I couldn't resist.
(Insert Serious Face Here)

Anyway....if you have one invincible ship, you'll just end up with one big fleet marching from one system to another. Untill it reaches the other big fleet.
It'll end up being a race to the destroyer.

Yeah I see your point but it does seem more realistic, I mean every commander has his own flagship don't you think?
Well maybe they should not make it nearly invicible, perhaps twice or *3 the power of a capital ship. And remember you gotta pay a fortune for having one of these babies.

They could also make the destruction of a flagship a devastating event since it symbolized your power. Its destruction could lower the moral of your empire and perhaps incite some to rebel. On the other hand the one who destroys it gains reputation and will be respected and\or feared across the galaxy.

And these flagship should be endgame units so the ennemy should be ready to counter them.

In regards to the Flagship idea, I like it the sound of it. Sort of reminds me of the Super Star Destroyer which is totaly badass.

Problem would definetly be balancing it without forcing players have have big showdowns with one single big fleet. It's not exactly possible for an opposing player without a super capital ship to hold off the enemy fleet so they are bound to lose planets. I suppose the player could play like the Rebel Alliance, using small hit and run tactics to cripple the big player's economy.... but even so, one big uncounterable big fleet will mean that any planet will be squished underneath a giant fingertip and smeared in a small skid line on the finger's way to the next planet.

But I believe we're thinking on too epic a scale. This super ship will probably be replaceable since we've got so much money by the time we're End Game. It would have to be seriously powerful for it to be worth so much money to cause us to look for pennies under our seats in the End Game. And if that's the case then I don't see how a fleet would be able to stop it.

I like the idea, but scale it down. Have a ship equally as badass on the outside but make it one class bigger than the Capital ships.

Topics have been quite off-topic as of late, this pleases me

what damage percentage would rail spoons have against shields?
