DA may not have a mods folder of its own if you've never used it before; if you go to DA's options, click the change mods directory button, then click the Default button in the corner of the resulting window, it will make a new one in DA's folder and set it to use it.

The customplanets file is located at GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Data\English\CustomPlanets.xml.

how do i edit xml files

Just open them in a text editor such as notepad (they're plain text).

i had to go and physically make the folder in the file.

how to i make planets look different

You would need to make new textures in a graphics program, and assign them to planets in customplanets.xml.

all my files in the galciv2 folder are gone and right after the stardock thing comes up it crashes can someone help

if all the files in your galciv2 folder on gone, you shouldn't be able to run at all galciv2 because the executable is in there. would you mind clarifying your statement?

i found my files some how they were transferred to my stardock files
