I've been pretty in the dark about this game until I heard about it on forums and from classmates. Now I've read a little into it and I can't see what the big deal is.

So it's a game where you design some critters to be cute, or angry, or stupid. It sounds like a crossover of the Sims and Black & White, the first of which is a gimmicky glitterfest for junior high girls and the second being a giant bilious pile of failure.

So instead of playing with a giant cow, we'll be playing with creatures that look like Elmo.

I guess I just haven't bought into all the hype. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised when the game comes out.

....Anyone realizes that this game will have same DRM used in Mass effect, which will require activation every 10 days? This is ridiculous.

Mass effect announced that it was ditching the DRM around two days ago, hopefully EA will get the hint and follow suit.

spore has ditched the DRM you just need to regester yoour copy now to get the patches like sins.

There's an announcement on spore.com dated May 9th that says they're basically doing the same thing as with Mass Effect: removing the recurring 10 day authentication requirement.

But don't be fooled. The DRM is still in. You still must activate your game. The activation is still tied to your hardware profile. You still only get 3 activations (with mass Effect. No clarification on whether you're restricted to three activations for Spore, but I'm betting it's the same). You still have to authenticate to DL patches and content, and you're still going to be getting SecuROM in your install.

To reiterate: the only thing that's been changed is the 10 day recurring authentication requirement. All the other crap still applies.

You sure? because ive searched on spore.com and its nowhere to be found, that they would skip the 10 day activation, or any May 9th announcement since 2006.

The way bioshock works is you can get back your activation by running a program that unactivates for your system profile. You can then use that activation again on any system profile. Anyone know if that is in either ME or Spore?
It's not in ME. No word on Spore about it, but I'd assume it's not in for Spore either.

Coelocanth, aah thanks :)

from that mail, he makes it sound all cool and wonderful with the online activation and re-activation every time you download or needs to update your game.
Funny he didnt mention the 3 max installations... from what happend with Bioshock, one would have thought they would have learned something.

I personally dont like this at all. Its going in the wrong direction, thats for sure (:(

Am i a possible thief every time i try to update my legal game?
Why does the game need all those security measures since THEY DONT WORK.

Theres no way im installing any DRM stuff on my machine. If im buying it, i will be downloading a crack to fix that problem.

Simple solution is to do the way Stardock is doing. A CD/GAME key. Thats fair and understandable/reasonable for the costumers.
It helps people to avoid the faulty DRM that screws up so many peoples PC's for no reason what so ever.

yea sins is the best way to go its non intrusive and doesnt treat everyone like a
e-criminal. The 3 activations is stupid, PCs have to be upgraded with the latest tech once in awhile to keep up with the newer games that have better and better graphics.

I almost cancelled my pre order of spore over this, the system they were proposing was as bad if not worse than starforge, ( which ironically doesnt work with vista anyway).

Its a shame that EA never learns to treat its customers right, they should go to the stardock offices and learn a thing or two.

i get a popup everytime i log on with vista saying that the starforge protection drives has been blocked due to incompatibility. I have the service pack and all the updates for vista to. Guess its just one of those computer querks
