Sins Beta 3 - Technical Feedback *POST HERE*

This thread is for technical feedback for Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 3.

Please reply to this post if you'd like to make: a bug report, let us know about a compatibility issue, graphics issues, performance reports, etc. (i.e., technical stuff).

Before making a report, please be aware that the minimum system requirements for Beta 3 are:

  • Windows XP SP2 / Vista
  • 1.8 GHz Processor
  • 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM for Vista)
  • 128 MB 3D DirectX Video Card
  • DirectX 9.0c
  • LAN or Broadband Internet Connection for Multiplayer

IMPORTANT:  When making a post about a bug, be certain to include - your system specs, a description of the bug you encountered, what you were doing when the bug occurred (how to reproduce it), and if it was reproducible or not.  We won't be able to make changes to the game without detailed information.

If you encounter a crash, Sins should automatically generate a minidump file. Please send the generated exception and a DirectX diag report to support(at)ironcladgames(dot)com along with a detailed description as outlined above. Minidump files are located in (please note these directories are hidden by Windows):

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire
Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\

If you'd like to give us some non-technical feedback, please post it here:

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/index.aspx?AID=163062

By keeping this information in one place, it will go a long way towards us making Sins a better game!

Thanks!

I get crashes all time now... First day i got the beta3 i played 8 hours it was all fine, got far into the tech tree's and nothing wrong. 2nd day 5 hours nothing wrong... today my ship moves into a already explored system it crashed.

Then i figured it may be the galaxy or my save is corrupt, so i play a different map 15 mins later it crashes.

Strange how it crashes all the time now, but the first 2 days i played hours and it was flawless.

Sucks too as i really like this game .

I sent a minidump and a dxdiag.txt, but i forgot to put a explanation of what happened, to be honest i'm not sure what is causing the crash.

try an uninstall reinstall

Well, slowdown lag was based on all computers going slow -- if your hosting, that may be enough to avoid the command lag, since it doesn't have to travel anywhere to get processed, ok'd, or whatever it is thats slowing down commands.

nope, hosting doesnt affect anything.
Oh, and btw, scout ships need their auto-scout AI reworked. They'll go off and scout a planet on the other side of the map from the unexplored one their right next to. No apparent rhyme or reason.

I just ran into a nasty bug. I had to walk away from my computer for a little bit, and the game ended without me. All of a sudden, my keyboard was messed up. if I typed: m,./ I got ,;.| instead. A was Q, S was something else... some keys were right, others weren't.

Could it be because of my G15 or something?

OK Eet, Schod, could you do me a favor and stand really close together? Close enough that I can kill two idiots with one Hadoken?

nope, thats definately cocaine.

Nope, coke has a different effect. You don't really see things that aren't there under it's influence. It's either pot, LSD or something similar.

--------

I have something similar with my keyboard, that after pressing some key combination it screws up the layout. Since it's a key combination very similar to something I often use in Sins, it happens every once in a while to me. Could it be something like this?

Tried that, exact same crash again. Infact it happens everytime on the same part for me.

Thtas possible -- don't know what the combination was though.

Edit:

It happened again just now, in the middle of my UBER GAME with Multi and others. Really annoying.

Also, while were;'re on the subject of that game... I'm getting really annoyed by the lack of any way to co-ordinate inter-player fleet jumps. Some way of letting another player control a fleet I "loan" to him, or at least co-ordinating jumping schedules when we're doing a joint invasion, would be really nice.

also, a pincer jump would be nice, not sure how to implement it, but it would be nice

That'd be nice, but don't have a clue how you'd really get that done. But you GOTTA give players some way of co-ordinating fleets in the same system, going to the same target, at the same time.

Edit: BTW, on the keyboard bug I found out more in my last game. It occurred again, but this time I discovered that whenever I had my control group 1 (my flagship mostly) selected, the bug was alleviated.

Played several LAN games today. All of them crashed after about 2 hours or less.

Host: Core 2 Duo 6600 2.5 GHz - 2GB RAM - GeForce 7600 GS 512mb - Vista 32bit
Client: Pentium M 1.86GHz - 512MB RAM - Radeon Mobility X600 - XP

So, on both computers the movement of ships stalls for a few seconds at a time, while the UI is still reacting. The game comes out of that usually. I have had persistent issue with the display adapter restarting in Vista with this card ever since Beta 2. The display adapter died twice, apparently randomly, in 2 hours of play. Finally the game died all together after what seemed like a Display Adapter reset, but then crashed all together and wouldn't come back. Music did start playing again, but no sound fx. Just a black screen.

One other problem - loading a saved multiplayer game does not work at all, gives an error

Failed to find file '' in either primary path or secondary path. subDir(Galaxy)

Im still getting the command delay bug in multiplayer. Usually a 2-3 second delay on my mouse clicks. Its making the game unplayable.

The game is smooth and my connection is very fast. I can have a ping of 200-300 and still have the bug.

Is there still networking things that can be improved?

psy... a ping of 250 is dialup <3

ive had the command lag now and again as well, i think its just hosty lag

had the loading problem as well, iunno why i didnt mention it

In FPS maybe. In RTS games , 250 is quite modest for broadband.

The command lag doesnt feel right because the game is smooth and theres no fluctating with my ping. I know another game I had this command lag and my ping was 170 which is pretty good.

could the command lag be due to your location where you live? the host might be in a place that has bad hops to where you live.

OK - Here's a new one.
I just got done with a game with:
- Psycho
- Amanojyaku
- Mr. Wonderful
I've finally been able to acomplish a whole game!!! (Windowed Mode Only)
- but, after I died I wasn't able to Chat with other players or give resources/money to alli. (expected)
The funny thing was - I was able to cash in all my resources (metal/crystal) and then put a bounty (with the money from cash in) on another player!
It was like "Screw you" from the grave. (taken from Digital Admiral)
Is this normal?? I did this by selecting CONTINUE after I was defeated - I was able to watch the game - but i couldn't chat with any1. I would think that once you are dead - you shouldn't be able to put a bounty on anyone.
Any feedback on this issue would be nice.

Even though that's a bug, it's not a bad tactic to give your team mate your remaining credits and resources before you bite the big one.
