Crysis

So.. has anyone else who played the SP demo just found a spot with a lot of trees and tried to recreate the Predator scene with Mac just mowing down a bunch of them with a minigun? Granted we don't get a minigun in Crysis (well, not as a conventional weapon anyway ) but using the hummer-mounted 50 cal works just as well

The game's going to be awesome

Interesting bechmarks, thanks!

I think it would run a lot smoother in more indoorsy environments. I found that tuning down shadows makes a huge difference by itself, since at least the first level is basically a dense jungle

I don't remember my exact settings now, but I'm running 1600x1200 with either 4xAA or 2xAA, most settings on High and shadows and one other on Medium, and it runs pretty well that way. It's still a beta driver though, and hopefully they can still squeeze a little out of the engine before the game is released to improve some framerates.

No doubt about it, though. The game's a monstar!

Agreed

Tho i noticed that the game was sorta fluid even tho the fps was around 12
Reply #9 Top
Yeah, it's not bad even at low FPS, until something changes If someone walks into your field of view up close, or you start shooting. Then it pauses and stutters
Reply #10 Top
It looks pretty good -- especially on Very High settings. Glad I got the 8800GTX... and found the hack to let me use "Very High" on XP (which is normally limited to high)!
But how does it run for you on very high? It looks great on high too, and even turning a few things down to medium I hardly notice the difference
Reply #12 Top
Yeah i wonder too, as i get very bad fps around the 5-6

I haven't tried running on high and below, but it runs just fine on very high. Beautiful graphics, minimal stutters (checkpoints have a slight hitch when it saves the save file...) and while the motion blur for fast turning drives me nuts, it sure is pretty

Edit:

Just to point it out, but thank goodness for my video card, an 8800 GTX. My experience will not be easily (or, at least, cheaply) reproduced!

But you're running it under DX9, which I guess explains it to a degree. I wish we could change if we want to use DX9 or DX10 in the options (I don't remember seeing it) to test how it would work..

I doubt the hack you found that allows you to use very high actually adds anything visually. In Hellgate, for example, DX9 shaders are capped at 'very high', while DX10 go to 'extreme', with extreme being DX10 specific things like depth of field. It's quite possible for the same to be true with the Very High settings for Crysis, but that's my conjecture..

Can you do me/Multi a favor when you get a chance? In the Bin32 folder in your demo install is a bat file to run a GPU benchmark with your current game settings. Can you run it when you get a chance and post the results?
Take a look at this before you say I can't be running at very high. Sure, I don't get any DX10 specific stuff, but its still pretty far beyond "high" settings. (I'll go run, then copy&paste, the batch files for ya -- be back in a few, shouldn't do this with windows open methinks).

CPU:

Play Time: 75.83s, Average FPS: 19.78
Min FPS: 12.45 at frame 816, Max FPS: 27.39 at frame 355
Average Tri/Sec: -26385686, Tri/Frame: -1333833
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -0.54

GPU:
Play Time: 88.49s, Average FPS: 22.60
Min FPS: 8.57 at frame 137, Max FPS: 32.08 at frame 67
Average Tri/Sec: -14968150, Tri/Frame: -662239
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -1.38

This was done using "high" settings, after using the hack described above to make high be very high, so I'm basically running at very high settings.

One of the few things we can readily agree on

GPU:
Play Time: 88.49s, Average FPS: 22.60
Min FPS: 8.57 at frame 137, Max FPS: 32.08 at frame 67
Average Tri/Sec: -14968150, Tri/Frame: -662239
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -1.38

Thanks for the benchmark

baaa, the last one of my tests should have said 1024x768 instead of 1680x1050. Will get a mod to correct it

Played the demo today. Was meh. Graphics looked only marginally better than the original Far Cry and games released today or a few years ago. Badly optimized. Weapon customization was neat. Crashing through buildings was neat (physics was good). Overall experience was boring, same "lol shoot that guy! lol shoot that guy!".

High, switched to medium when it chugged. Other than the cutscenes (which also chugged, why aren't these things pre-rendered? stupid crytek) nothing looked spectacularly better than jungle scenes I've seen a long time ago.
