Ships

First of all i am so excited about Solar empire. Since haegemonia there were not any game like this. I am already adverting this game to my friends.

I feel only one big cap, which is the number of varieties of ships. When i play i am only makeing one kind of ship(1 balanced fighter ship in every class). Also there is only one defensive platform. It could be a huge improvement if there will be many ship classes with different weapons such as torpedoes, photon cannons, ion cannons, nuclear (planetfdestroyer) weapons and so on. Also some serious planetary defense.

And the design. The game looks perfect overall, but the ships are too simple. In Imperium galactica i saw some better design. I am sure that you studied these games and you made a nice mix with good ideas. I hope you can still make some improvement and make the game as complex as IG 2 - till the deadline.

well, they say textures will be highly updated

if you continue to only make one type of ship, you will lose in multiplayer

there are many different weapon types and the different tactical structures work in conjunction with each other

Sounds like you have a badly bugged version!

As TEC you should have Gauss Cannons, Hangars, repair centers, Phase Jump Inhibitors, and a shield generator.

The Vasari get Phase Missile platforms, hangars, repair centers, PJI's, and a weapons Jammer.

Properly used, while these won't prevent an enemy from destroying a planet, they will seriously delay him, leaving you time to counterattack, or reinforce your defenses. The only major "hole" in the defenses is flak -- the only anti-fighter ability you have comes from fighters, which means your defense can get shot down rather easily, leaving you vulnerable. Just build some flak frigates and put them on hold position.

... Did you actually read what I said? I addressed that! I don't like using fighters as anti-fighters because they tend to get shot down

The game plays like Haegemonia without the ridiculously low unit caps (Yet another haeg fan converts )

All of the ship types serve a purpose. If you come after me with capitol ships alone, or just 1 type of cruiser, or frigate in MP i will wipe you off the map. Low level frigates dont lose their usefulness when you reach higher tech levels. Try each ship out. See what it does, and what it doesnt do. Then form fleets with the best balance of ships.

Like Ron said defenses wont stop an attack completely. They are meant to slow it down until you can get a fleet there to defend your world... If possible. However defenses are effective vs pirate raids "IF" you have a trade station built. Pirates will go straight after the trade station, and the trade ships. Build guns around the station, and let bombers take care of stragglers. Dont forget to place guns close to planet for siege frigs.

Right now the only effective anti strike craft unit is the flak frigate, and the vasari version of anti strike craft frigate. Dont bother wasting hanger slots building fighters. They are useless vs anything other than bombers, and fighters arent even that great vs bombers at the moment. The issue is being worked on.

*I mean capital ships.

We tried many other classes of ships against capital ship fleet, but they were much better with the abilities.

You hit the key word right there "ability's" The frigates, and cruisers get some ability's as well with research. Sure an "all capitol fleet" you can get far, Especially vs the AI. However I like having groups of frigs around as escort anyway. Cap ships ATM cant counter bombers that well except with their own fighters. So a few Colbalts with sabotage reactor, Flaks, Hoshinkos, and some LRM's dont hurt (well the'll hurt the bad guys).

Haeg: The Solon Heritage was never released in the US. Best place to find it is ebay, or Amazon. TBH you aren't missing very much. TSH was a rushed release. Its just LOI with solon ships added, and imo they screw up the game. There is no single player campaign. Just a bunch of skirmish maps tossed together. The same maps that are in Legions of Iron. Plus a couple more strictly TSH maps. Legions of Iron is much better IMO.

After another tons of hours of play:

- I have this feeling that someone wrote down some ship concept in 10 minutes -> Ship list. It is so puritan. Frigate, Cruiser and Capital ships...

Should be around 5-10 different classes with many ships. OR just make it more uniform and make the possibility to choose weapons onto the ships.

Other thing is that i think the ship production time/research should depend on the power of the planet (population, moral etc.), how it was in many games. So if u want to build a capital ship, than u must invest tons of money and time and production capacity to build one. Now it take the same time/money as building cruisers. And you need atleast 9 Military res. station to build kodiak, so you can have like 10 capital ships that time.

Other thing is the research which wont change is: why should i have +1 planet to have 1 more research station to research something. These games should be like some people are playing as they have a few well defend planets with hightech buildings and high population and they have nearly the same power as someone who has 20-30 planets. And some others are barbarians with tons of ships. You can't play this game in the first way.

In that way it will be better with a Supreme commander production/battle system.

Given the exceptional clarity and effective distribution, I'd say someone took a long while to think up the ship lists. The only real problem with it is the Heavy Cruiser and the Colony Frigate need to have their positions swapped... then ALL the cruisers would be "support", while all frigates would be "attack".

Capital ship is 40 supply. Put that vs 40 supply worth of missile frigates Either way, I am using (playing tec) a lot of designs. I haven't used a lot of cruisers however, because I am rolling over AI. I have to wait till I can MP to try them out. The Frigates however do become much better with research. From what I seen of the Vasari tech tree, it seems their standard Frigates would become monsters with the repair ability. However for now I prefer Tech, because they have more of a swarm mentality at the beginning.

I'm lovign the game so far Really once you send the right mix of ships, it can be hands off, so you aren't clicking constantly, which is good.

Cap ships aren't to be used against large groups of frigets, but then 40 supply thats like 8 frigets, so the Capitalship wins.
