:(((((((((
EDIT:
Although I will agree with you that Company of Heroes is one of the best (if not the best) strategy games ever made, and that it really does require great tactics rather than resource management. Another one I would recommend is World in Conflict. It's got the most accessible and easy-to-enjoy multiplayer of any strategy game ever.
decemberscalm has the right of it -- Medieval 2 is indeed little more than a medieval skin of RTW. It had the same dumbed-down combat system as Rome, and the same dumb AI as Rome. It's mostly style over substance, just like Rome. All of Medieval 2's extra bells & whistles can't cover that up.
But back to the topic at hand:
I'm not a beta-tester for Sins, so I've obviously yet to play the game. But I *do* have Stardock's Galactic Civilizations 2, and I've gotta say they blow me away.
The game itself is awesome, but what I really appreciate even more is Stardock's approach to their work. They continue to provide free regular updates -- not just patches, but actual additional content -- months after a game is released, and they interact with the community constantly. (Indeed, there are times I wonder how Frogboy, Yarlen, and the rest ever get any work done!
Now Stardock has teamed up with Ironclad on Sins, and for good reason. Both companies have similar philosophies about how to make games -- and just as importantly, how to treat the gamers themselves. They realize that the best way to keep the general fanbase happy is to provide the best game possible while still doing so in a fairly reasonable time period.
So given all that, of course they aren't going to release the demo until later. Sure, I admit that kinda sucks for me personally (as I like to demo games before buying them, no matter how promising they are), but to hold that against Ironclad would be incredibly foolish and short-sighted of me. They feel their responsibility are to those who've already purchased the game (or soon will be as soon as Sins hits the shevles in the next day or two), and I have no problem with that.
It's usually only those who always want to play the newest game "right now!" that complain about the lack of an immediately-available demo. And to be honest, I strongly sympathize with that type of gamer -- more than you know! To those people, however, I tell you that patience really is a virtue! Yeah, the saying is cliche, but it's still true; it was a lesson I learned the hard way.
But I see we have some possible converts here. Guys if you like the game BUY IY THESE DEVS DESERVE THE SUPPORT!
Oh Spring how much fun that game was/is
Supcom sucked especially the AI OMG! Eye candy yup but unplayable even on a quad. But I see we have some possible converts here. Guys if you like the game BUY IY THESE DEVS DESERVE THE SUPPORT!
The A.I. did suck, but the modded AIs were fine and multiplayer was just great. It was very playable on a quad, fyi.
Multi was ok if you liked 10-20 min fast super clicking games
buy the game
stardock and ironclad really do deserve there money,
these are companies with integrity, honour and balls of steel, they have put their money were there mouth is and bucked the trend to deliver us a better game when the industry per say said they’d fail.
They did it with gal cive 2 and they have now done it with sins and furthermore they truly are a company that listen to their consumers about the game what’s in it and what should be in future patches.
I understand the frustration and worry of getting a bad buggy game that wont be fixed but stardock and ironclad are not ea or UBISOFT (insert appropriate swear word here) they do fix 90% if not all the bugs that we post about and what’s more they will reward buying customers with extra content i have bought the game and have NEVER been happier parting with my money.
ps
have yet to finde this typ of attitude in other companys you guys have my suport in any game you may launch
ps ps i am asuming you do like this TYP of game (ie space opera empire building)hope i got it right
my 2 cents yet again bye now

Supcom sucked especially the AI OMG! You're joking, right?
For a company like Stardock and Iron Clad, I would gladly pay for their work as they really listen to the fans and reward the fans. Keep up the good work. I will be buying the game when it comes out here - though it will be quite a wait...

Tbh nope
Hi guys, I just made this same post in another thread just to explain the demo situation. A lot of people are misinterpreting our intentions and I just wanted to help clear things up.
"As a representative of Ironclad (the company that made Sins) I can tell you we simply could not have made a demo even if we wanted to - we put every last second into making sure the retail copy was as bug free, stable, and fun as we possibly could. A demo would have only hindered this as it would have eaten about a month of development. The demo for Stardock and Ironclad products have always/will always come out after the product so that it is an accurate representation of the finished product and so that it doesn't interfere with perfecting the finished product.
I also want to be very clear about this since no one else has brought it up. In no way are we trying to hide anything or pull one over on gamers by not giving them a demo before release. We've had the beta going since March (almost a year now!) and there was no NDA (non-disclosure agreement). Everyone in the beta right up until now has been 100%, absolutely, positively, completely free to say whatever they wanted about the game. Take screenshots, make movies, do whatever they wanted (check out how old some of the dates on the Sins youtube videos are). We've had as open a development process as there has ever been and I'll admit in the early days it was pretty rough and their was a lot of criticism but we worked through it, in the public's eyes, for the whole world to see. Once we got past that, many testers said the beta became more stable, bug free, and fun than most games at release. Now the almost unanimous response is that Sins is well worth buying, even without a demo and we've got almost a year's worth of public opinion to back it up.
*P.S If anyone wants to verify this, the records are all here on the forums and distributed over various places on the net available via google."
Hope this helps
well you certinly answered all my questions. thanks for your time, the fact that an ironclad rep actualy took his time to answer my questions certinly does raise my faith a bit. thanks again
I'd honestly have bought the beta if it were the final game. Now they added space ponies.
How can a person not buy a game that has space ponies?
Go buy it. Or torrent Beta 3, spend five minutes staring at it's nubile flesh and 'then' buy it. Either way.
lol:LOL:
id say they deserve it am verry impressed with the way you chaps/girls over there are handeling the pressure of an overloded system and frustrated clients
The game is a good game if you like rts genre.
I got a hold of the beta 3 and enjoyed it to the point that our group of 4 bought 2 copies of the game so we can play the full game on a LAN
I could go and justify it with arguments of how its the first game with Real-time empire management, smooth fast and easy transition from fighting a battle to managing an empire in real time (i.e. no tactical map put on pause to fight a battle or clunky turn based system).
Or the well balanced units were there is no super unit, i.e. no mammoth tank to rush with, and it takes a balanced fleet to win maps as well as clever manovering of them. And a careful decision making process of were to spent the resources you harvest.
But those are my reason for enjoyment that has made me bias to the game
Guess the only real way to find out is to buy the game and try it or go to a friend that has it and try it I believe a demo will be coming in a few months
To be honest with you ill probably be bored of the game in a month or two the reason why I bought it was the attitude of the software companies that developed the game.
from the tech support to the ncp policy they have.
ps
I was never on the beta testing program something that I do regret now
and dont know any of the developers involved in this project.
hope this post helps to ashure you in some way
