Very Dissapointed?

Very Dissapointed?

Well after playing about 10 games, I've come to realize that there are some pretty big flaws in the game.

1. Its too slow, and takes way too long to finish a game, and I've only played on small random. I played one multiplayer game, and my opponent disc. after 40 mins. Probably due to pirates.

2. In all 10 games, I've fought my "actual" opponent twice. The other times its all been me vs. pirates. When I see them come with like 15+ ships, I usually just quit, becasue its really stupid. From reading the forums, its clear 90% of the player feel the same way.

3. There is nothing to do in this game but wait for resources, which clearly means they don't generate fast enough so that we can buy stuff. This contributes to the slow factor... This game needs to be at least 5x faster so that games can be played within a reasonable period of time. Games that take hours to finish, skirmish wise, fail.

4. I think once IGN rates this game, its over... We will all move on... Sigh...

I like how the elitist fan base of this game can't read and comprehend someone's points without mocking him.

1 Yes - the game is too slow. That does not mean 'make it a fast game.' It means the game is too slow.

2. I have also had a problem with the pirates. They are a major annoyance and contribute to people disconnecting after the half hour mark, which means everyone in the game just wasted half an hour doing nothing but sit and wait for resources.

ps here is an opinion of a gamer who thinks the game is to fast

I’m a hardcore gamer all the way back from the early beginnings back in the eighties. I have tons of games and can defiantly tell after a short time playing - this game concept is something for me. But please give us gamers who like to think back the opportunities to lower game speed a GREAT amount more as it is now, at least to half the speed that is the slowest as it is at the moment. This defiantly goes for research speed also.

Some loves fast paced games others (like me) love having time to grap the cup with coffee without constantly first pause the game This I also find I doing every time I open the research menu. So for me bottom line on making this great concept to the best game in all times for me would be:

1.
The opportunities to lower slowest overall game speed even more – way more than now.

2.
The opportunities to lower slowest research speed even more. For me about 10-20 times slower than the slowest at the moment would do the trick. I talking about minutes here, 10-20 (or more) real clock minutes for one research would be great. I like to really have to think over what to research next – what the best way would be. In my humble opinion as it is now there’s no big consequence to choose wrong. . . . it’s like; I choose this one . . . ZAPP done. . . oh no good . . . okay then this maybe good

Ok, here's an example. Yesterday I joined a 2v2v2. About 50 minutes in, my partner has a high bounty on his head, so he disconnects. Of course, since this game is so slow, nothing really happened in this 50 mins. People scouted, some small skirmishes, etc. About 10 mins after my partner left, another person leaves. Now it's a 2v1v1 and the game is ruined. Total time wasted: little over an hour.

Resources come in far too slow. That does not mean I want the game to be a tank rush game, it means the game should not take 50 mins for people to get established.

/edit:

Yes Hawk, I read that post and I think he's an extreme minority. He wants one single research to take 15 - 20 mins? That would literally kill this game.

That's why you have to get this game with friends. Most people are going to be kids with absolutely no patience that bought this game by mistake because it "looked neat to them". It's gonna take time to weed out the speed junkies. I've got 2 guys from my LIVE friends list and a couple local freinds here in Chicago getting the game. I don't plan on playing online with anybody but them.

I will sound off...

The games FASTEST speed needs to be faster, I've said this for ages (5-6 months now) if a large portion of the community is playing it on the FASTEST setting and thinks it is too slow, then it needs to be changed. And I 100% agree the Fastest setting needs some tweaks:

Increase ship speed by 1.5x
Increase resource income by 2x

And see what happens. IC prolly won't do it to the full game unless a lot of people voice themselves, so I am guessing we will just have to wait for the mod tools.

A 1v1 game on Fastest still last me over a full hour on the SMALLEST map.

okay fair enough i all the games i have played it usually takes about 30min to get setup with 1 colony that includes scouting and a few skirmishes and my reserch then again my group of 4 usually plays on tiny maps to speed up confrontation and tactics and limit resorses and forces us to REALLY think about what we want to reserch for ships

the beginning of the game for me is critical trying to colonise a new place deciding were and what purchase what to research and what future needs are going to be

i understand your frustration with the pirates I do believe there is a vote that the devs are watching at the moment

ps
the time was not truly wasted unless you did not enjoy setting up the empire and deciding what to research or scouting the enemy positions and as the people that left because tey got defeated and that’s how that particular game went and they should have been better preperd
if however your upset that your team was not the on that defeated them (I.e you pissed off at the intervention of the pirates as i have been in many instances)
then keep a close eye on the pirate poll lots of people have spoken about it and the devs are considering it

pls let me know if I misunderstood anything

Just wait for some mods. There will be quick games, where you start with an established fleet and can get into it a lot of heated battles faster.

game is awesome!!! i played with my friend on a map he made..

us 2 vs 2 hard AI and 2 pirate bases... nothing to do? omg what a great cat and mouse insane battles we did...

4.5 hours of total mayham over 50 capital ships lost ROFL...

by far this is the best RTS i ever played online...

maybe we like the speed cause we are old farts hehe.

and ofc as everyone pointed out there is a speed button....use it!
This clearly is not the game for you. Move on. There's no such thing as a 'quick' 4x.
just found out there is a poll happening to adress or leave the issue of speed
Reply #37 Top
Ok, regarding speed preferences...

Is it possible for a multiplication slider to be added? So you can tweak the existing settings? For example:

|FAST| x |__0.0____1.0____2.0__||__3.0__|

Or perhaps have it replace the original speeds entirely? For example:

___________________________________________________
|SLOW|_______________________________||____|UBERFAST|

Sorry for the crude illustrations... Paint is not at my disposal right now :(

hi there
AdamaCaprica

as i understand it there is already a speed seting slider in the game for reaserch mony and general game speed

so that leaves me pondering your request HUH????  ;p  :d  :NOTSURE:

There isn't a resource problem in this game. It's just that most people don't really invest in economy techs. I was having issues with a lot of my matches, but I eventually went down the economy line and everything was great.

I will admit, the game can be quite slow though. A fast game, doesn't really mean much on multiplayer. :P Once we get the mod tools, I'm probably going to edit the damage values for all of my ship and see how things go. A damage boost with no defensive boost (except maybe for the cap ship) might make things better.

Combat could be a bit faster, but that's could mean a lot of stat tweaking. I'd also like to see the loss Capital ships actually have a negative impact on the player. I've had matches where I just keep obliterating Capital ships to convince the player to leave... and it isn't long before they come back with another one.

Of course, I still enjoy the game.

Mocking people is half the fun of life. That said, your tears are sweet like the blood of a fatted calf.

I'm expected to say something like that, right?

Anyhow, it's a 4x game. It's going to be slow, a slow speed is how these games function. You can not control a vast empire without this being the case. But at the very least it's fairly easy to modify it to ones liking, be that too much effort there's always the wonders of your standard fast paced rts for you to enjoy.

I'm honestly not sure why you mention sitting around waiting for resources, though. I find myself constantly buying and selling materials and queuing construction and patrols all over the map. Sins gets very busy very quickly if you're at all involved.

Honestly, if you're playing Sins like your standard RTS, you probably won't like it. The game is not meant to be that way. ;)

If you think things are too slow or easy:

1) Play on Medium maps. The small maps are intended more for multiplayer 1v1 battles; the AI doesn't handle that well.

2) Play on Fast settings, lots of resources and fast research.

A lot of the complaints seem to stem from the fact that people aren't really setting up their games to maximize their enjoyment.

Eh, you're going to find that in pretty much any online game, where people bail the second they think they're going to lose. This isn't really a problem unique to this game. Perhaps you'd have better luck linking up with friends who you can count on to stick it through to the bitter end.

And people really leave because of an eminent pirate attack? That's ridiculous.

Resources come in far too slow. That does not mean I want the game to be a tank rush game, it means the game should not take 50 mins for people to get established.

That's more a case that you simply don't like the way the game is designed rather than it being evidence of a poorly designed game. I imagine that as people become more familiar with it, things will start moving a bit quicker.

No, it's a 4x game with RTS elements. It freaking says "4X" right in Gameplay link off the home page. The first 4 gameplay items mentioned are the 4 X's of 4X gaming....

Ouch, *wince*. Yea, that's probably not good... I hadn't seen the box cover before, just what's on this website, which fairly consistently has mentioned 4X.

I suspect there will be a good number of "casual" buyers that will see RTS on the box and not get the game they were expecting.
