ahoy Pirate, you have too much time on your hands btw ! heh

only just realised i have bloody vsync on !! so ill try it without and see how th frame rate goes

Yeh way too much :D

But anyway doubt vsync off will fix your problem relating to the text boxs... Turn vsync off , do a screenshot with just the game screen then do one when the coloured text appears or diplomacy/research screen.

Basically send some goods to one of the races and wait for " Thankyou for xxx " does the frame rate drop below 40fps with vsync off compared to the game screen with no coloured message.

Hope that makes sense lol

Oh well, I guess my Vsync isn't off since I can't go over 60FPS.

How can I turn it off? I can't find the option ingame. :P
I'll have a look on the FPS again after i'll turn it off.

Full specs:

Asus A8N-E
AMD X2 4400+ @ stock
2x 1gb ddr1 ram (2-3-2-5)
Galaxy 8800GT 512MB @ 675/900

running at 1680x1050, everything maxed, 4x AA, vsync is on at 60 fps, any menu overlay causes me to drop from a SOLID 60 down to 20-30

BEFORE

AFTER

happens in game and in menu, every time.

I've noticed a slowdown whenever the AI sends me a message as well, not game breaking but noticeable.

Specs:
P4 3.0Hz
2GB RAM
GeForce 512MB 7800GS

Run at 1280x1024 with Graphics on High all options on.

Nope not game breaking but it does need fixing , if you have a huge battle going on last thing you want is a coloured text message to nose dive the frame rates.. :D

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info... have you all tried dropping your detail a bit and seeing if that helps?
Ok as requested... Psugar

EVERYTHING ON LOW , lowest of the low :D

LOW - 55-60FPS ( Vsync on did try with off aswell just means much higher frame rates )

LOW - Coloured message appears - 18-19FPS ( Vsync off and tried with on )

Are the developers still looking into this?

Whats the point of updating this thread if we don't get anymore feedback

Excellent thread, I too have noticed massive framerate slowdown when a coloured text message appears. Surely text rendering doesn't take that much CPU/graphics to do? My guess is the coloured text is usually a whisper from the AI, and at the same time they are starting up AI scripts or your defenders are all running AI scripts to move to engage so it causes the lag.

My system:
Athlon X-2 4400+
2 GB DDR Ram
Geforce 7900 GTX 512mb Graphics
Windows XP SP2

As long as colored text doesn't appear, my game runs with virtually no lag with ALL settings maxed out and at a resolution of 1680x1050 for my 21" widescreen monitor.

I noticed the exact same thing when I was playing last night. I can have a huge battle with tons of ships involved on multiple sides, but as soon as an AI message pops up it slows down massively until the message disappears.

I originally thought it was slowing down when units jumped into the system, but it does it even when there is no combat or fleet movement anywhere (like when the AI decide to break a trade agreement). Is there any way to just disable it? I love the game, and this certainly doesn't break it, but it's definitely annoying.

Well the developers did keep us updated and asked for us to keep them updated , but they seem to be sidetracked at the moment..

Intel Q6600
4gb RAM
8800gtx
Vista
latest drivers

Everything on highest, has yet to slow down on me ever except for a few random hitches during the larger battles.

Wonder whats causing it..

Is it XP - Game related? , what :(

Hi first time i´m writing here. Sorry for any spelling errors i might make i´m from germany :). Love the Game so far. Only Problem so far is the slowdown when ever messages from players appear or i have infocards on screen. So obviously i also hope the developers work on this. I have a 8600gt, installed latest drivers, changed some settings ingame (changed all settings to medium) and on my system but the problem persists. Thank you for this great Game and i hope this problem gets solved soon.

i noticed this as well, however i alt+tab out then back in and my framerate returns to normal. using xp sp 2 and an 7800 nvidia card.

I am getting this too - tried it on 3 different machines...

Windows XP, Intel P4 3.2Ghz HT, ATI Radeon 9800 256Mb
Windows Vista, Intel Duo 6700, nVidia 7950 512Mb
Windows XP, Intel Quad, nVidia 8800 512Mb

Obviously, the faster the machine, the less you notice the slow-down, but it's there on all 3. As soon as the pop-up message goes away, the slow down stops. The tutorial does it all of the time - I guess due to the tutorial text box.

Exactly the same problem i have...I use a Pentium D with a HD3850 (XP SP2)...
