the nvidia quadro cards are designed for serious use not gaming, but the latest drivers for the card are at http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_181.20.html, btw the geforce family of nvidia cards are the gaming cards, but several people seem to be having problems with sins & nvidia, and I do not have any idea why, as I have several computers with different video cards from an old geforce 7600, 8600gt, 8800gt,6600 and an ati 4850, the only prbs that show up for me are running out of application space (ie 2gb allocated application space)

I know the Quadro cars are not really designed for gaming.  I primarily use the computer for Solidworks and other engineering software.  I do like to play games though in the evenings when I am trapped in the hotel.  Nvidia defers you to the OEM's website for drivers with laptops.  The driver I installed had just been released by Dell a day earlier.

but still i got desktop crashes but at least the fix removed the minidump...

I might have a fix for some of you.

I have had the problem with sins that after a while of playing, the game suddently freezes. (can be anything from 5-15 minutes) I get large pixels all over the screen and the only thing that is left to do is turing the computer of on the start button. This error never occours on new high end games, but does for Sins of a solar empire, Quake 3 and for some games that have really bad graphics.

For my system it "appears" that I have fixed it. (this is only for people with the same error and with a ATI Radeon card)
(I managed to play for more than 30 minutes without anything going wrong. I will try for longer later on, and will post again if the error appears again)

My system specs are:

Vista Buissnes 64X

Intelcore 2CPU 6400 2.13 GHz

6 Gig RAM

ATI Radeon Sapphire HD4870 512Mb GDDR5 PCI-E

My problem was with my graphic card that was "to good". My ATI card comes with ati Cataclys Controlcenter. As all Radeon cards has. Just start the program, pick "advanced mode", then "ati overdrive"
There you can see options for GPU clock and Memory Clock. This section is there for people to get more power out of their cards. Mine has "GPU 750Mhz" "Memory clock 900Mhz" as default.

So instead of overpowering my card, I tried to lower its output instead. I changed my GPU clock down to: 580Mhz and my Memory clock to: 600.
And like I said, I have been able to play the game for a long while without getting the problem again. So its possible that this fixed it for my system. And the card is still powerfull enough to run the game on max settings. And the game I tried was with 8 computers. I hope it will work with few opponents aswell.

I hope this helps someone

I also had the issue of crashing.  I downloaded the patch and it said that it wasn't needed and was included on SP1, I'm running SP2.  The game did not have the /LargeAddressAware enabled (it's the purpose of the patch).  I've detailed it here.

well I have AMD Turion 64 x2 mobile technology TL-60; NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS; 3 GB DDR2; 255GB FUJITSU MHY2250BH ATA Device; and modes I actually dont know, what are you mean, but in game I have all on hight, not highest ... and the game is crashing in single player ...

thank you masterghost, the ram total with vista suggests you might want to try lower settings to reduce the ram load, or turn off a lot of the vista services that are running in the background eg the areo ,sidebar, antivirus, file indexing etc...

Well I did a little mistake. I dont have DDR2 but DDR3. (I bought my laptop 1,5 year ago).

And I dont really mind this crashing is caused by running services on background. Well, somethimes I am listening music from winnamp, but ... icq is close down, any controls arent running (or I really dont know about it) and what next could run?

Well how I wrote. I have SP 2, and I download patch offered by mytrix from microsoft and crashing is still problem of this really good game.

Hi. I'm having this same problem with my SinsE, that after playing awhile (30-60min.) the game just freezes and doesn't reply to anything I do, but the music still keeps playing on the background for some time. Before this it freezes multiple times (these freezes might last from seconds to minutes), but still keeps working until the game has lasted atleast half an hour. The freezes also seem to be "stacking" so to speak. What I mean is that even if I load a saved game that I have played e.g for an hour the game might work for a minute or two, but soon gets the terminal freezing, which forces me to shutdown the game trough Task Manager. I've tried everything that has been suggested on this thread and nothing seems to help. My specs are Windows Vista (32-bit) Home Premium, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00GHz, 2Gt Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS (I also have SP1 installed). Would love to get some help, because at the moment I can't enjoy this great game that seems to get even better with every expansion. (Ps. Sorry for the wall of text.)

green10, the cheap advice you will get is lower your settings from very high to high OR even medium,as you only have 2gb of ram on vista32bit you are running out of ram, and the lower graphics settings in sins will delay the out of ram crash point, the expensive suggestion is to add another 2gb of ram. the reason I suggest adding ram is vista 32bit really wants the 4gb of ram for itself, but will allow programs to borrow ram, but wants interest on the ram loan.

the lower settings will also help to speed up the game due to less details in the models being calculated.

also disable any background tasks that are not needed to help prevent the swapfile freezes.

see that thread ^ its the same issue, you're just delaying it by reducing some of the address space usage.

It should be noted that patch is included in vista SP1, which you really should be on anyway.
