How to use inteligence in GalCiv?

Hi,

I have assigned some money for inteligence and sabotage in some of the enemy empires. After some time i am getting messages that the level of enemy infiltration becomes low, medium, high, etc and my spies reached the very high levels of enemy's government members. How is this usable for me? Can i directly do anything using my spies or they just lower some parameters of enemy empire (diplomacy, morale, etc)?

cheers
Marcin

Indirectly you get help diplomaticly and in taking techs.

If there are others I have not seem them yet.

The main effect of espionage is that each level reveals more information about the enemy civ on their "stats" page. You can find out all sorts of interesting stuff like what they are currently researching and where their trade routes are.

There are also some random events that depend on your level of espionage. If you are at "advanced" with a civ, there's an event where a minor race steals all their techs (then you can buy them).

If you have no investment in espionage with a civ, there's an event where you're forced to declare war on them. So it's a good idea to get to "low" with anyone you are doing much trading with.

With destabilization, it seems like you have to invest a whole lot of money before it has any effect (it just lowers morale, no particular message or anything) so I haven't been able to use it well.

After you have reached advanced there is a chance that you might steal some technology from the AI. Of course for this to work they must have some technology that you do not possess.

I usually do not use espionage because the cost does not balance the benefits.

I have seen this happen with no knowlegde on that civ at all.
