Version 1.03A.057

Major Race builds Grav Accel. Next Turn, Minor Race builds Grav Accel. Whoopsie! Good for me. The Minor will trade Grav Accels to me. But bad for something unique is still supposed to be unique.

The United Planets outlawed Terror Stars. So when I got it researched I left the UP and tried to build a terror star. I have all the possibilities added on but I'm not allowed to build the terror star.

The freightor protection act is passed and when it is passed it says the cost is 25% of something or other. But when you look under passed resolutions it says the cost is only 1%.

When you double click on a ship and you look in the upper right hand corner there's some text that is there but is unreadable because it falls on the third line and there is only enough space for 2 lines.

This is with 1.03.

If you and an AI are racing to a resource to build a starbase and you actually win, the AI will still try and build a star base...right on top of yours. Needless to say CTD.

I have a save of it if the developers need. You can watch it happen.

Mentioned before, but bought the retail game, installed it and after playing for a few hours, I stopped and saved the game in a new save. Come back to the game load that save, CTD. My system's going nuts (previous problem) so I re-install windows XP. Start a new game play for a few hours, save a non-auto save game. Come back to load it, CTD. Try to load autosave (set on 5 turns), CTD. Try to load previous autosave, CTD. Version 1.03A.57

(sorry that I didn't check 500+ messages if this was reported before;))

Two minor bugs, nothing really serious. Both observed in 1.01 and 1.03 as well:

1. When the 'Civ with most influence'-PopUp appears, I often see one of the minor races with only one planet as 1st.
Either there is some bug in the calculation or (only explanation I can think of) the minor race has been buying larg amounts of influence - which would be pretty stupid.

2. When renaming ships with names that consist of two parts (DX1 Sol), only one part of the name is displayed (DX1). But when clicking on 'rename', the full name is there again.
Occurs at ca. 1/10 of my ships.

I'm playing my first long game to completion on the biggest map, and I'm not 100 percent certain that all of these are bugs. I'm currently in the very late stages of the game:

1. I conquered the last Altairian (sp?) planet, but they still show up on the diplomacy screen (albeit with no planets listed).
2. I've bult Avatar and Overlord ships, that appeared invisible on the screen (at first I thought they just had cloaking ability) I also built a terror star just for the heck of it, and it also shows invisible. I later saved the game, and restored it, and now I can see the graphics for the ships. I'm not sure if this is reproducable or if this was just a glitch.
3. When I upgrade a star base with Stellar Wake and the other modules that affect starship speed, they don't seem to have any effect. However, I THINK I get the effect when the starbase becomes a terror star -- is this a bug, or is this how it's supposed to be?
4. When I created a terror star, it looked 0like I got an extra starbase in its place. I'm not sure if this was caused by a bad load after restoring a saved game or not (since I didn't notice this until i could actually SEE the terror star).
5. I've searched for this in the manuals, online docs, etc, but can't find info anywhere on alliances. I'm currently fighting one major civilization (the Yorians or Torians -- I get them confused), and another civilization keeps giving me free ships. I keep giving this friendly civ free techs, but our relationship marker doesn't seem to get any higher than it is (I'm evil, the friendly civ is neutral). I've never gotten the option to offer to make an alliance, even though I got the alliances tech -- are alliances between the terran player and other major civs possible? If so, what must be done in order to get that as an option? Do I need to have the same alignment? Should I give the guy all of my techs? Or what? (The major reason I want an alliance is that this civ is bordering on my one remaining enemy, and this enemy keeps destroying the starbases I build to extand my range into its territory, so I figured if I could have an alliance with the adjacent civ, I could more easily gain a foothold there, in order to finally squash that enemy).

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem. I was pure good and had friendly relationships with both other good guys. Their people loved me and my culture. One kept declaring war on my enemies and the other gave me a total of about 15 ships. Yet, I still could not even request an alliance.

Took a long time of this for the alliance option to come up. Maybe there should be alternate lower levels of alliances, like a trade alliance or research alliance. Mutual Protection treaty that are available at lower levels of relationship. these would gradually increase your relationship, making an alliance much more possible. Either that or make alliance available at friendly instead of the next one up. Just an idea or two.

1.03 bugs:

1) On completion, the 'Overview' screen shows a summary in terms of 'MPts'. I assume this means 'Metaverse Points' but can't find an explanation anywhere.

2) The total points listed for Terrans on the Overview screen (eg. 1305) is not the total that appears on the Metaverse screen (eg. 652). Interestingly, it looks as if the number of points that it offers to send to the Metaverse is 1/2 the total displayed on the Overview.

3) On the Metaverse screen, the game difficulty is wrong. I've seen this on two different completions: in both the Difficulty is shown as 'Suicidal', while in one game it was shown at the beginning as Beginner, and in the other as Challenging.

4) On the Metaverse screen, the opponents are mischaracterized. On the one game it showed all opponents as Sub-normal, and they were, but that apparently was coincidental because on the next game they are still all shown as Sub-normal. (If I recall, one was Intelligent and two more were Normal.

5) On Load a Saved game, trade bonuses are not applied on the first turn. E.g. my base trade is about 1000. With all bonuses applied it runs about 3000. On the first turn after a load, only 1000 is generated so my treasury takes a -2000 hit.

6) Less annoying (and possibly a result of 5) above): on the confirmation Research Project screen offered on a load, the estimate for completion of the project is much longer than it will actually take at the programmed spending level.

7) Not a bug necessarily, but GC doesn't seem to take full advantage of a dual processor machine. It seems to max one processor, while the other rarely runs above 30%. I know the AIs are supposed to be threaded, but what form of threading that doesn't allow Windows to spread them across the processors?

Not sure about the message from the Altarians saying that they  would honor your being at war.  I'd have to look it up by the text in English.str and then do a search on the tag.

jusjoly: hmm...and it IS a total lock up? You can't click on ships or whatever?  Does your save game reproduce it?  If so, I'd like to see it.

Darnit about the repeat trade goods. I'd have sworn that we fixed that.  Maybe something re-introduced it.

Elucidus: Yes, I would like to see that save game.  I'll need both the .sav file and the corresponding folder.  Generally it's best to zip the folder so that mail programs don't choke on all the attachments. [email protected]

Kernschatten: it's probably the same problem other people were having with 1.03A.57 save games. You should be able to load them in 1.04 when it becomes public, if you don't have a drengin serial.

You can only buy their love up to Friendly relations.  After that, you have to get to close relations on your merits (trading usually helps).  Also, you have to have the alliance tech to ally with them.

Starbases don't move unless they're terror stars and then they're only supposed to have 1 move point.

Invisible ships bug is known. Saving and reloading usually gets them back.

The AI threads are less processor intensive because they're just doing calculations.  The main thread has to worry about painting, saving, etc.

All of the non-redundant bug reports have been added to my list.

Are you confirming that the AI threads are process-level (and thus able to run on other processors)? If so and they're CPU-intensive ("because they're ... doing calculations"), then they must be throttled.

I think you are misunderstanding what I said (unless this was in response to someone else's post).

What I meant was that I thought that Stellar Wake was supposed to affect the speed of OTHER ships that you owned in the same sector as the starbase, but they don't seem to have any affect whatsoever, regardless of the type of ship, normal movement rate, whether the ship starts, in the same zone, starts outside the zone, passes through the zone or whatever. I had the brilliant, if probably unoriginal idea to put starbases all over the place with the speed enhancing modules but this seems to be a total waste since the modules have no apparent affect.

HOWEVER, I noticed something very odd when I created the Terror star for the first time (earlier today). Suddenly, ships in the same zone were actually listed as having an increased speed. So my question was if this was intentional or a bug?
-Haldur

Example -- I have a Battleship with a movement rate of 6 under normal conditions. Regardless of the modules in my starbases in sectors I control, that Battleship moives at a rate of 6 period, even though it's my understanding that it should be able to move faster if it's in a sector with a base with Stellar Wake and/or inverse Tractors.

Haldur,

I've noticed that fleeted ships doesn't seem to get the speed boosts but solo ones do. Are yours fleeted?

One other thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post...

When ships are grouped into fleets, certain functions seem not to work correctly. Auto Attack, for example, patrols, etc.

Also, let's say I have two different types of ships in a fleet and they have different ranges. For some reason, it LOOKS like the ship has the greater of the two ranges, even though the game correctly limits the range of the fleet as a whole.

Further more, the game displays the fleet as having one or more movement left, but it won't actually let me use that movement. Sometimes if I disband and regroup the fleet, the available movement goes down to zero, so it may just be some kind of display problem. Still, if I click on Find to get the next fleet, it LOOKS to me like there are no other fleets to move, even though there really are more (in other words, it will not jump to the next available fleet).

Once I realized that I was ending the turn with tons of ships that hadn't actually moved yet, I started getting into the habit of sorting my ships by movement left. Generally, if I can find a single ship that hasn't moved yet and give it orders, everything seems to start going again just fine so there is a work-around. -Haldur

Hehe, I was posting my follow up while you posted this.

I don't think it made a difference if the ships were grouped or not. I started out fleeting nearly all my ships. But I know that I had unfleeted ships -- most notably freighters and constructors, which i almost never fleet. -Haldur

When you reload the game, all of your enemies are suddenly using your political party. I tested this by upping the speed of my party by 250% (22 speed). At first, they never had the speed. However, when I exited and re-loaded, suddenly they all had 22 speed, thus had my party. This happened 6 times in a row.

An AI that won't fight?

I'm testing several different conclusions to a Gigantic universe game. It's late in the game; there is only one other race left (Drenghin). Terrans are ahead in tech, but economies and military power are about the same.

I went through the Alliance win. Boring. ;) Now I'm trying the 'conquest' option.

Because the evil bastards had been fighting two races on the other side of my space, there are Drenghin Dreads all over my space. I attacked first and killed many, but there are still many left and many of them have valid attacks, especially on starbases and systems.

But on his turn the AI did nothing except adjust his spending for the (signficant) loss in trade. Not one single attack, or as far as I can tell even a single ship move.

Could this be a bug??

:SURPRISED:

If you buy a structure, then click on other structer, the structer you just bought will gone forever......
please fix this ASAP, it's game stop big!especially if that structer is unique one.

Krasny,

Currently, the AI can only win via military victory.

Another bug. I had a planet almost about to defect to the enemy. I managed, by giving them a different planet, and all of my ships, a starbase located in my territory with a resource for influence at 61%. Now, my planet says that because of culteral pressures by my civilization, it is considering defecting to my civiliztion. I also cannot access any mining features for the starbase I bought.
