Sins of a Laggy Empire

Seriously thinking of uninstalling this game. It isn't because I don't have a good computer, in fact I'd say I have a ridiculous computer and my 20k 3dmark06 score proves that. I get a game going, start building etc, get my lines of defense posted on places I know the pirates and AI's are going to attack me on and get comfy on my sectors as I build cannons to blast them into oblivion and not have to lift a finger other than make scouts, I start putting out trade and mine stations to help my economy bloom, and soon after there is one of each on about 30 systems the computer chokes down to 15fps, so just to see if it was that alone I went and made those 2 structures cost nothing on slots and load a few sectors with them, and I was right, those are the most lag creators I've ever seen, the computer crawled 3-9FPS with a total of 60 of them and none of the other sectors even searched through. I already know that the game is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT multi threaded as I watch task manager only sit on ONE core at 100% while the others with nothing else going on are completely idle. So what do I do? I go in and drop all the graphics to minimum settings for everything 1024X768, no AA, no nothing, not even icons, save and exit the game completely, come back into the game from the save I loaded, still asstastic fps of 3-9 fps. Seriously Iron Forge, I'm saying this now, your game had a good idea, but your coding SUCKS and as I was dumb enough to buy this game and wishing now I could get my money back, as I’m feeling seriously gypped, now I see why everyone is a pirate anymore when it comes to PC games as you all say “Well, we can always patch later”. People are SCREAMING on your forums to fix the F'ing lag, it isn't graphical lag when 2 8800GT's are picking their nose, but the CPU is sitting there like "Well You're only using 1/4 of me, wtf you want? The scripts for all your units are going through 1 core, take it up with them", seriously MAKE IT USE MORE CORES FOR UNITS! Hell, make the scripts for the trade and mine station use another core and that would fix alot of lag, make battle units use another core, most people have 4 cores anymore, USE THEM FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! WE PAID MONEY FOR THIS(well those of us that were stupid enough raise your hand, mines in the air)! FIX IT!

What do we want for 1.04? MULTI CORE!!
Come on people shout it with me!
What do we want for 1.04? MULTI CORE!!

Have you -
Defragmented your computer
Closed all background tasks
Made sure your computer gets enough air
Realize this is not a multi-million dollar team and is made more for lower-end computers than the .01% who spend all their money on their computer
realize the world doesn't revolve around you

and so on? It might help you in middle school.

Instead of insulting him, try responding to his complaints.

If you have a 3DMark score of 20k, this game should run flawlessly without even so much as a hiccup. As you say, though, it's not graphical lag.

What is the speed of your processor? First off I'll say that quad-cores are pretty terrible for video games because video games are rarely (almost NEVER) written in any serious kind of parallel. So take your CPU speed and divide it by 4 and see if you meet the minimum requirements for this game. You'd be much better off using a dual core of the same speed for games - it will literally double your CPU power in games.

You might not notice slowdowns in other games, but Sins is actually fairly CPU intensive compared to most recent games (which are GPU-intensive and very CPU-light, the CPU being used to load/save games and run the AI, essentially). Sins requires a lot of CPU for simulation power, to be able to hold all the math and perform the simulation in real-time.

Also, if you have a complaint, try to voice it in a less seething manner, and you might get more positive feedback.

/edit - Keep in mind, it could be some kind of driver issue. Especially update your sound card drivers and your video drivers. If it's something more complicated, a developer will be able to help you more (but will unfortunately probably skip over your post since it's filled with such... anger. Your complaint is a bit lost in the noise of your frustration.)

Mettra, you're wasting your breath. This guy has posted in other threads about his "love of multi-core". He just needs to let it drop. When a person has no idea what it really takes to truly code for multi-core, nothing you say will make the point.

...guess some people shouldn't have "bought" into all the cpu-marketing crap. There's something to be said for "experience of years lived" :)
