welcome to my vision.
it'll be hard, there will be disagreements but, by the beard of Odin, it shall be worth it.
this game is billed as 4X RTS and, in my limited experience, it does well.
what i find missing, i hear from others as well, is the satisfaction of real hard-core tinker time and indepth development trees your allowed in a TBS. but of course these games can be expansive because there's not another person waiting for you to move.
how would it be if i could design my empire off-line and then bring online to see how it plays out?
you can see why i've come to you.
i'm no modder, but i've skimmed through the mod-pack pdf and it seems as though pretty much everything rule based (i.e. not grapical) can be changed, and all though small, easily swappable files.
what would it take to make possible a tool that would easily generate/modify these files, and assign the entity within a cost in creds, metal, crystal, tech level, build time and total points value.
the points value is important. if the tool is balanced, then, for example, i should be able to make my fighters more powerfull at the cost of my long range frigates becoming weaker or at the actual cost of my fighters. out side of the internal balance it shouldn't matter what the points value of the emipre is i come up against online. if i'm the smaller guy i shouldn't need to wipe you out to win. here's my example:
the rebels are worth 1000 points, they are out manned and out gunned, but they know where the weakspot is and when it's destoryed the galaxy will be free
the empire are woth 2000 points (1000 points invested in a moon), smug and superior and know that as soon as they crush the rebelion, the galaxy is theres to rule.
two imbalance sides but with balanced targets and therefore balanced win conditions. this is a factor which is actually total alien to SOASE, but everything else should be doable with external tools. and if we build it, people play it, stardock will listen to them.
i'm a QA in IT so i know this can be done, i know it can be balanced and though i don't have the direct knowledge i can learn. what i need to know is does anybody else want to be able to play a game like this? and could SOASE play host to that?
