Xtremely Disappointed

Advertisements are so great. Why dont they include:

only a handful of researching techs.

cannot build your ships, prebuilt.

cant wait to start fighting only played an hour and already

dont know if i saw it on an advertisment or i made it up

in my mind, i thought u can see the terrain of the land,

zoom in or place structures. cant wait to be bombarded

with nothing on the planet.

Ready to bombard this game with leftover

fireworks.

Games are giving up the stradegy and game play

for one person for fighting prebuilt  fleets online.

of course u cannot have alot of stradegy fighitng

against players who just like shooting games,

players might start to cry if other players

beat them with there mind and tech and

made personally built fleets and tech.

I get upset everytime I buy new games

end up throwing them in the garbage

and playing 20 year old games.

And that's the story of the game, right there. Every bit of depth you normally find in a 4X title sacrificed in the name of real time gameplay until there's virtually nothing left. As an RTS the sides are too similar, the pace too plodding, and the combat too rudimentary. As a 4X there's no depth, incredibly shallow planetary development, no ship designing, weak AI, the worst diplomacy system I've ever seen, and a paltry research tree. Each aspect gets in the way of, rather than improving, the other. You end up with a game that is less than the sum of its parts.

Great - you're one of the few people who seem to back up their arguments :P
But the thing is, can you suggest an improvement? For example, how might they go about deepening planetary development without ruining the RTS part of the game? Remember that the devs wanted to keep as much depth as possible, so if they could put more depth into planetary development and ship design, they would. But how?
In other words, it's easy to criticize (we all do it), but can one be constructive?

While I for one am very much enjoying this game, by way of keeping planetary improvement placing simple, I would suggest that there be an "automatically place planet upgrades" shortcut just like the (almost useless, admittedly) auto-place orbital structures one above pinging. For planet upgrades, I could see this being more useful, as where your logistics improvements are is less important than where your repair platform is.

Of the three things I feel like the game really, really needs, more complex planetary improvement is one of them.

This game should not have been sold as a single players game.
I did not have to play more then an hour, but I did just
to see why some of the responses are so hateful.
In one hour, i had my planet fully developed. All the research
developed, enouph ships to take everything except the pirate base.
What else is there for a single player game? I understand alot
of you have worked on this game in beta, but thats not why I bought
this game. If you all get thrills out of shooting each others handful
of different ships, thats great. I am serious...my cousin loves to upset
other players by killing things, even if its just a square on the screen.
hahaha I shot down your square. But even he gets bored shooting enouph
squares.
Even if thers is updates, it will not be for single players. From
what I have read from the people who was in beta, you cannot have
both.
The same goes for other games I am playing, even a few I rented said
it was for single player, but it was just a training on how to play
online.
Is there a fee on playing online? I dont see any other reason in not
having a single player game, you can have both...
Make a single player game for those like me who like them and then
have an online game for those who like competition.
this is from gameinformer for those who said i did not do my
reaserch.
DEEP tech tree (a dozen?)
MASSIVE miltary clashes (50 of my ships against 3 in a system except pirate)
DIPLOMACY (WITH WHO?)
INFRASTRUCTURE development (10 minutes and done)
INOVATIVE empire tree (2 more planets been done)
RESEARCH improvements to both cival and military
HUNDREDS of ships in a solar system (ya mine...)
DEVELOPMENTS in ships construction. (SAY WHAT???, think u meant premade u dont get to)

Again I did these all in one hour, what now? Take over the one
pirate system that the game put in my solar system, or the
handful of ships in each system.
And the pictures are so nice they put in the magazine.
And why beat the game, there is no story line.
If you all want to blow each others 10 different premade ships apart,
thats great, but I paid 40$ for a game for that Deep tech tree and
other things, I drove 90 miles to get it, and it says single player
multi player online.
Where is the single player.
I did not get upset over the online game like many of you might have
thought. I am upset for it saying single player when there isnt any.
You ask me its just like some of the games coming out saying its
one player but really a guide on playing online.
Just put time cards or pay 40 dollars on the webpage site to play
online. No since of lying, that just makes some players upset.
Even the pictures on the box looks awesome.

Play a bigger map if the game is too short.
