Halo MOD?

Ok so I am just throwing this idea out there because I am a Halo fanatic and I think that this game could easily incorporate the Halo universe into it. I am not a very good designer but I can provide support and more ideas. There are already two races that could easily be changed into the Humans and the Covenant( TEC and Advent). All we would have to do would be to change ships some and add  gauss guns to most TEC Cap ships. I know this might take a long time but if it means that we will finally have a Halo space combat game then it will be well worth it.

sketchup unfortunatly doesnt work for this game or any that i know of. there is the rare instance that is does though.  xsi mod tool is the program that must be used.

Any modeling programm can work... simply need to export the final model to a format that XSI understand... I know that some people have their sketchup model converted and used in 7DS by Danman...

 

I have hear that Max is able to put the null point on the mesh... if it is true, model can be exported directly to .xsi, need only to use the convertxsi from Stardock...

 

But until it is confirmed, XSI is needed for the final stage, when you put mesh, texture, null point and everything together... and save the result to .XSI

 

For info, if you find someone who can texture with XSI, ask him to make a post here for explain how... texture is a 2D work, normally using tools like Gimp or Photoshop... i have never find paint option in XSI, maybe i have mish it !

 

In my case, for create my model, i use Wings3d... it is free, easy to use and give good result... and only 7mb for the download...

 

Screenshot below show wings3d in action... mesh is a modified Blamtroid model ( credit go to him ), texturing is not yet fully finish, need to correct some seam and some other thing...

ill check it in a few mins. but it did work when i zipped it up.

EDIT: ok i just downloaded it to another hard drive and it works for me. i got it by going into xsi and doing file/import/dotxsi to a blank scene then the model and null points show up. I was able to recreate your problem by just hitting open. If you dont use the import function in xsi to put it in a blank scene xsi just start up as if you clicked its icon.

In my case, i use wings3d... but almost any other software like Maya, Max, XSI and other can work... So, if you are already a pro with Max, don't need to change of software...

 

Models cannot be directly upload to sins... Your need XSI mod tools for the null points and export the whole to XSI format... once your XSI format ready, you need the convert XSI for create the .mesh needd for the game...

 

So, any 3D software who is able to export in a format that XSI understand can be used...

 

Wings3d is a very little software ( 7 mb download ), easy to learn ( simple interface ) and fast but the soft is very limited... Around 50k max for poly, max 4 texture map, max 4096px map... bad for high quality modeling but good for modding game... by example the max poly in sins is around 20k for orbital structure, 12k for capital ship... mainly, model use only one color map with a max size of 2048px...In Wings3D, you can create the model, make the UV and create the map template needed for paint... nothing more... it is a simple modeling tools, no a render one with complex light or texture ( only color texture allowed, no normal map, no self illumination, etc )

 

XSI mod tool is a good software but so big ( 400 mb ) and slow... GUI with hundred of option that you don't know where to click... so, i don't like it... but it is my personal feeling... try different tools and use the one where YOU feel the more confortable with... For info XSI mod tools and Wings3D are both free... Some people use Sketchup who is free too...

ideas 4 buildings:

metal extractor: same

crystal extractor: replaced with recruiting office

Frigate Factory: same

capital ship factory: Replaced with Prototype Warehouse

trade port: replaced with tiara (contact harvest)

Refinery: same, ships replaced

broadcast centre: same, added ships when stationed at planet lower the rate of hostile culture takeover

gauss cannon: Super MAC Cannon

Hanger Defence: discarded, replaced with carrier ship

repair platform: replaced with cradle (fall of reach)

all 4 buildings add sins plus planets and 7 deadly sins black hole and rogue star

guys we are done with the idea stage of planning.  we are currently making this stuff so stop posting it.  sorry to be blunt but we dealt with this in the first 60 pages of thread and the idea stage is over.  if you were late to the thread im sorry but read pages 1-60.  canada can we please get a new thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!
