Only Three Races!?!?!

I just got Sins of a Solar Empire today and I found out that there are only three races......Is it not possible to mod more races into the game? Similar to Stardock's Galactic Civilizations 2: Dread Lords...?

Plus theres no Mod folder in my Local Ironclad Games folders....?

Heyas,

There's at least one mod adding a new race so far, probably others that I'm not aware of yet.

- It is possible to add as many races as you like.

- You need to update the game to 1.02 or later, previous versions won't have mod support.

idd it IS possible to ad races (with mods) BUT
why do u say ONLY 3, there tons of games with less factions btw most rts games are based on 3 factions

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a 4th official race added in an Expansion  ;)

Where it's finally discovered that the Vasari are on the run from the mighty PSP.

really want to see the race vasari are on the run from, heh. But 3 races is plenty to keep me busy for a long while. + adding more races is probably a challenging balance problem :( so the mods with extra races will probably face serious balance issues.

Thanks for all your replies. And by the way Hunter, yeah I suppose that three races is enough, but I am so use to playing GalCiv2 and I have so many races on there.

And where do I put my mods by the way? I don't seem to have a mod folder.....

End of quote

Clicking Update in the game's main menu should take you to a page where you can download, or just use SDC.

M'kay i have a problem. I copied and renamed the TEC entity file and stuck it in a file in mods titled gameinfo and then i also added playerUNSC to the string file and added it to the string count. When i try to enable the mod however, the game crashes. :(

So you did these things:

1) Copy/rename playerTech.entity to playerUNSC.entity
2) Update the English.str with an extra StringInfo for the player name
3) Increased the strings count
4) Put playerUNSC.entity in your mod's GameInfo folder

Right? Just easier to look at when it's in a list ;)

Now, did you put *all* of the GameInfo files into your mod's folder, or just that one? It needs to have everything in there, not just the stuff you added/changed.

Ohhhh i just put the one i changed lol nub mistake

wait a sec i just tried it out. now it is calling the second TEC race i added "TEC" even after i renamed the entity and the playerracename string thing to UNSC.

So you have something like the following in your english.str:

StringInfo
ID "IDS_PLAYERRACENAME_UNSC"
Value "UNSC"

Right?

Did you change:

raceNameStringID "IDS_PLAYERRACENAME_TECH"

From the playerUNSC.entity (TECH since you copied from TEC entity) to

raceNameStringID "IDS_PLAYERRACENAME_UNSC" ?

Adding a string is just one step, you also have to point your new entity to it ;)

Not trying to sound rude or anything but what drives people to buy games they know nothing about?

Only 3 exclamation points!?!?!

Ya, what's the problem! All the other RTS's are having 4-5 races  :NOTSURE: What a Jip! I'd return the game if I were you  ;p

Haha, imagine a PC gamer from 1998 travelling forward in time and seeing that 3 races is considered "few" for an RTS. Remember when we all cheered because Starcraft had THREE WHOLE RACES? I don't mean this as a flame, just jeebus, times have changed.

Company of Heroes, one of the best RTS games I've played in years, had two "races". . .

Yup i did all of that stuff, Annatar but it still says TEC.

Okay, now did you add a String folder with the modified Strings file to your mod path? So it would be something like \Mods\YourMod\ that has GameInfo and String folders.

It needs to be in there also. I don't know what else it could be, because it works fine for my stuff :x

yup that all there. i'll double check everything once i get home

I don't even have a mod folder :p in my Ironclad folder....whats gone wrong here?

You need 1.02 or 1.03, out of the box version doesn't have mod support ;)
