What we want in the Expansion Pack

What we want in the Expansion Pack

Great Game but can be Extraordinary with a few additions

Ok now first off i just want to say that Sins is already the best 4x RTS of all time. That said, there are a few additions I beg the developers to put into the expansion pack. Im sure you guys will have tons of posts to add but this is basically what im asking for:

1) single player campaign

One thing that really bugs me is that there is no drawn out story line to follow along map after map. I realize it saved money by not releasing anything but individual scenarios, but now that the game is making millions of dollars it only makes sense to add this much needed aspect to the game. This also gives the creators a chance to really show the players how to use every tech and unit to its fullest ability. their is so much more strategy in this game beyond economics and fleet sizes, but it is lost on the majority of players since we cant see those strategies play out in a single player environment.

2) battle stations and capital siege engines

a logical unit that races would want to construct to defend themselves from hordes of enemy ships while their fleets are light years away would be an extremely powerful battle station. like a castle in space, it would be designed to be nearly impenetrable to smaller units (strike craft, frigates, and crusiers). the enemy fleet would want to have in tow some sort of asteroid sized siege engine that could house a seige engine. perhaps a dead asteroid would have to be used as a resource to build such a weapon.

3) planet based defenses

with so much space on a planet, we should be able to construct some planet-to-space weapons that would be effective against large capital ships in orbit. the smaller ships would be too hard to hit with a weapon like this but huge battleships should be a welcome target. imagine building a mountain sized canon that could fire huge payloads into space to devastate a battleship. i can see the logistical problems of integrating this into the games graphics but it would be very cool.

4) moons and bigger gravity wells

hopefully we will see colonizable moons floating around our planets, with much more space to work with. too often an enemy fleet can phase jump within 5 seconds of hitting a fortified planet and begin bombarding it before the attacked player even know its there. it would be much better to have a few moons defending your planet so that you have time to mount a defense or recall your fleet from distant stars. the gas giant planets especially could have moon based societies, look at jupiter and saturn - they both have dozens of moons and smaller colonizable sattelites floating around them even thought the planets themselves arent hospitable for life.

5) more artifacts and anomalies

it would add a another dynamic to the game to make exploration more beneficial to your strategy. space junk should be able to explore and find something useful. there should be more artifacts to find, and not all of them should be helpful. imagine exploring your planet and loosing some sort of micro organism that is infecting your people and turning them against you. or finding a primitive culture on a planet that is hiding an ancient secret that they once ruled the galaxy. also, some artifacts should benefit one race over another, for example the advent would benefit from finding an ancient psi-amplifier on a distant world more then the other races. perhaps the humans would benefit more from finding an abandoned genetic research lab that can enhance their labor output. anomalies in space are also important to consider when moving your fleets around. radiation and cosmic ray belts around stars, blackholes that can suck in your whole armada, anti-matter draining clouds of dust. asteroid belts should also be possible places of hiding small ships off of the radar. The asteroid belts should be in motion around the gravity well so that they could damage a large ship that doesnt get out tof the way.

6) diplomacy with NPCs

almost every gravity well has some sort of NPCs defending them, it only makes sense that they could be bribed and manipulated just like the pirates can. they may not be much help but we shouldnt have to exterminate everyone just to get access to their resources. Rise of Legends has a similar feature where you can choose to kill the NPCs or to purchase their allegiance and build more of their units to fight for you. Its a nice feature this game could integrate somehow.

I've noted that in my games to date, one cannot colonize a planet that has been "conquered". Ok, since it has a loyal population, let's do an end run around that notion. A planet too loyal to become a part of one's empire is still conquered. They should be taxed heavily, looted, even gutted like fish if one is of an evil inclination. After all, the game is "Sins of a Solar Empire", not "Happy Guppies in a Fish Tank".
*
They remain conquered until "rescued" by their own. They are a potential source of rebellion and pirate activity, especially if one does not maintain a garrison fleet
*
*
One thing I don't really care for is the influence another empire can gain over your planets, even if they have been attacking that same world turn after turn. "Those **** so and so's killed my brother..Oh! They've got cookies! Hey!!! Over here!"
*
*
Pirates need a sliding scale of activity. Even rich planets don't have all these ships they show up with. Smaller fleets and individual ships could prey upon shipping, and one's shipping would need escorts in areas of high activity.
*
*
It should be possible to hire privateers to prey upon other races shipping.

I want the ability to go beyond 5 capital ships per race, to take advanage of the 4 empty slots in the build que bar.
This will allow for must flexibilty, especially for custom races.

I'd really like to see a single player campaign, I was sad to see there wasn't one to start with. I'm kinda itching to have a resolution to the thing taking over the Vasari.

It'd be pretty cool to have another race maybe.

Basically all the ideas that has been mentioned sound great to me.

...a self destruct option for bold captains

Maybe just for the Advent, since they are sort of the "religious fanatics".

A suggestion to add to the "more capital ships!" that I've been seeing around:

Super Stealthy Capital Ships so...

SPACE SUBMARINES! w/ huge torpedoes and TEC ones could actually look like modern submarines Lol that would be sweet!

Different Formations + Bonus while keept based on % of ships still in formation (bonus vanishes when ships getting destroyed)

Some kind of Tournament Play / Ladder support maybe?

Well.. Moons are just round asteroids... probably so you have to explore them before you know what you can harvest there?

Campaign would be ok... but only if done very well... And does something special ... for example by partly revealing the tech tree... step by step.

Better AI / More AI "modes"

And of course: 2-3 new and well balanced Races!!! I think thats the most important thing in an expansion!

A research tech that allows you to pass through black holes into a negitive universe and come out a white hole that has infinitie energy! Then you can conquer crazy aliens using the white hole as your source of power in this strange new universe :P (some people think that black holes think to white holes in other realities, so this is based on science! I'm not just making it up!)

Uh, I am not sure about this, but a lot of people complain about LRM rushes. How about a unit that directly counters LRMs early game. Maybe a vessel that rushes past the front lines if it can get through (it also should not get blown to bits, like light frigates). And then, of course, an updated auto-cast feature. The one now is totally broken. It does not prioritize anti-matter usage, and there is not way to save anti-matter. Auto-cast is completely pointless.

Artifacts can be sold! You can sell to the highest bidder through the diplomacy screen.

Great idea... i am at my 30 hour gaming in a huge random map... have already find 7 artifact but only 3 from the 9 different... i have find one 3 time !!! Since the effect of similar artifact are not cumulative, better sold and earn some money !!!

FINALLY someone else agrees with me whoo hoo go space stations

we need an end game ship that costs like 100 supply and tonnes of credits metal and crystal. it should be a mobile planet. something that is exactly like a planet but on wheels. thrusters sry.

"they have cookies" lol nice spacemansiff
I think culture is a problem, like when you destroy a planet but u cant take it because the culture is to high.

My main complaint is that capital ships are just not good enough.

1) they take no research

2) im sorry but if my freaking huge battle ship cant take out this tiny scout ship in one hit thats just sad.

3) capital ships in big long games are not as valuable I know that if you loose a veteran ship its a tough loss but in long games they can easily be replaces. If you have ever played homeworld 2 (yes its cheating AI SUCKED!!!) you would know that when you loss a carrier or a destroyer it a hard loss.

I also think that the teck tree needs fixing. In gal civ it was huge and research did more than just increase weapon damage. im not saying Sins should adopt the same system but just make the current one bigger.

One thing I forgot, is that I want to be able to make my planets ecumenopolises. This could be in stages though, and would definitely have drawbacks and benefits, but in a futuristic world, it seems like a possibility.

I want to see more depth in the game. Perhaps also various victory conditions ala Civ games. More research options. More types of capital ships. I see many ship types which are retrofits (most TEC, some Vasari, not experienced enough with the space crackers to know), perhaps diversification from "retrofits" to purpose-built ships through technological research. Far more planterary diversity. Planetary defenses as others have mentioned: good vs capital ships but less effective vs frigates. To add to that: ground assault. Frigates very good vs defenses but forces needed to sieze planet (Troop ship class cruisers and cap ship upgrades). Ground assaults/invasions have a % chance of success based on: numbers/enemy ground forces/ crew experience.

all these Ideas for this post are great...

About moons. I think Moons have to be specially colonized via an up-grade in the civilian slot for colony frigates, and then after colonized, it provides an increased percentage of credits, resources, and population. Secondly, Moons should have their own Miniature Gravity Well for extra tactical slots and logistical slots, and the moon should actually revolve around the planet. Then, once colonized, there can be an upgrade where if you have the "colonize moon" upgrade, there are three upgrades after it that one increases the total population of your planet even further, another increases your resource trckle, and the last one adds 4 more logistical and tactical slots. Almost like a miniature planet, but different.

All I really want, and I will duplicate this in the update forum, is the addition of a clock. A real clock that pins to the top of the screen so that I don't have to look away (hard), to neurotically check the time (easy).

Civ IV has one, why don't you?
