What we want in the Expansion Pack

What we want in the Expansion Pack

Great Game but can be Extraordinary with a few additions

Ok now first off i just want to say that Sins is already the best 4x RTS of all time. That said, there are a few additions I beg the developers to put into the expansion pack. Im sure you guys will have tons of posts to add but this is basically what im asking for:

1) single player campaign

One thing that really bugs me is that there is no drawn out story line to follow along map after map. I realize it saved money by not releasing anything but individual scenarios, but now that the game is making millions of dollars it only makes sense to add this much needed aspect to the game. This also gives the creators a chance to really show the players how to use every tech and unit to its fullest ability. their is so much more strategy in this game beyond economics and fleet sizes, but it is lost on the majority of players since we cant see those strategies play out in a single player environment.

2) battle stations and capital siege engines

a logical unit that races would want to construct to defend themselves from hordes of enemy ships while their fleets are light years away would be an extremely powerful battle station. like a castle in space, it would be designed to be nearly impenetrable to smaller units (strike craft, frigates, and crusiers). the enemy fleet would want to have in tow some sort of asteroid sized siege engine that could house a seige engine. perhaps a dead asteroid would have to be used as a resource to build such a weapon.

3) planet based defenses

with so much space on a planet, we should be able to construct some planet-to-space weapons that would be effective against large capital ships in orbit. the smaller ships would be too hard to hit with a weapon like this but huge battleships should be a welcome target. imagine building a mountain sized canon that could fire huge payloads into space to devastate a battleship. i can see the logistical problems of integrating this into the games graphics but it would be very cool.

4) moons and bigger gravity wells

hopefully we will see colonizable moons floating around our planets, with much more space to work with. too often an enemy fleet can phase jump within 5 seconds of hitting a fortified planet and begin bombarding it before the attacked player even know its there. it would be much better to have a few moons defending your planet so that you have time to mount a defense or recall your fleet from distant stars. the gas giant planets especially could have moon based societies, look at jupiter and saturn - they both have dozens of moons and smaller colonizable sattelites floating around them even thought the planets themselves arent hospitable for life.

5) more artifacts and anomalies

it would add a another dynamic to the game to make exploration more beneficial to your strategy. space junk should be able to explore and find something useful. there should be more artifacts to find, and not all of them should be helpful. imagine exploring your planet and loosing some sort of micro organism that is infecting your people and turning them against you. or finding a primitive culture on a planet that is hiding an ancient secret that they once ruled the galaxy. also, some artifacts should benefit one race over another, for example the advent would benefit from finding an ancient psi-amplifier on a distant world more then the other races. perhaps the humans would benefit more from finding an abandoned genetic research lab that can enhance their labor output. anomalies in space are also important to consider when moving your fleets around. radiation and cosmic ray belts around stars, blackholes that can suck in your whole armada, anti-matter draining clouds of dust. asteroid belts should also be possible places of hiding small ships off of the radar. The asteroid belts should be in motion around the gravity well so that they could damage a large ship that doesnt get out tof the way.

6) diplomacy with NPCs

almost every gravity well has some sort of NPCs defending them, it only makes sense that they could be bribed and manipulated just like the pirates can. they may not be much help but we shouldnt have to exterminate everyone just to get access to their resources. Rise of Legends has a similar feature where you can choose to kill the NPCs or to purchase their allegiance and build more of their units to fight for you. Its a nice feature this game could integrate somehow.

I think they should add ocean planets that you can colonize with floating or domed cities of some kind. They should expand the same sort of thing to gas giants and have a floating city deal like in Star Wars. It would have to be researched like volcanic and arctic are now.

-add some way to upload .dmp files directly to Ironclad server instead of mailing them.. it would be easier for players and developers too...
-add planetary defenses located on planet surface(ground to orbit missiles, lasers....)
-include bailknight graphic mod by default, it looks GREAT, especially missile explosions

have any of u people ever heard of a game called conquest wars if so u should remeber tha that game had fleet Adrmirals and it made the game lamer due to the fact that the ai for them would always not do as told like when told to retreat and repair nearly the entire fleet got destroyed due to the fact that they just kept moving it would only work if the ai could decide by it self which ships needed repairs more and as such those ships leave first then while still attacking the rest of th fleet started to fall back otherwise u will end up with a fleet that has less ships and may even lose the fagship due to the ais lack of falling back

Small thing, dunno if it has been mentioned.

But in other games, you can view a mini picture of the selected map. Fx in Warcraft 3 and other strategy games, you can see a preview of the selected map. Small thing, but a nice feature!

One easy thing to add for moons would be for them to be just like asteroids, except for twice or three times the metal/crystal per second, and some specialized weaponry that can only be moon-based.

Stealing from a separate thread --

A spiffier victory screen might be nice. Some fireworks, some scenes of the other races being marched off into slavery (or not, depending on what race you win as).

The game would really benefit from some more planetary options, such as buildings, defenses actually on the planet and a neat animation for planetary invasion like GalCiv2.

Especially since many stars ARE actually green. Our sun actually gives off more green light than any other color and there are stars out there that actually appear green to the eye (if you lived near them).
End of quote

What? You can't see green stars. They just emit too much other visible light. To use your example of our sun; granted that our sun gives off more green light than any other colour, it still doesn't appear green to us. This is because, as I said just before, it's "overshadowed" (so to speak) by the other visible wavelengths it emits.
Stars don't appear green. They can't appear green to us (unless there's some freak of a star that only emits green light).

1) Single Player campaign

2) Lots more levels for cap ships
Say 60 levels, but only improve abilities every 5 levels. At the other levels you can boost weapons or increase accuracy or add fighters etc...
Also every 15 levels have a experience cap and require the ship to go to a shipyard for refitting. From that time onwards all new ships of that class would have slightly improved stats, this represents learning what works and doesn't for ship design. It would allow late game new cap ships to be less overpowered by the early game ships!

3) Make Capital Ships more modular. i.e you build the hull, but weapons etc have to be added separately as you research them (see above)

4) Moons

5) Binary stars/Planets

6) ORBITING PLANETS. i.e. Planets move relative to each other.

7) Non circular gravity wells, it would be nice to be able to have an asteroid belt all the way round a star!! ie the belt is all the way around the star, within the belt are numerous colonisable 'roids.

8) Variable phase lanes!!! Given planets that orbit, we should have the possibility for phase lanes to change. Phase lanes would close, and new ones would open. This would add lots of tactics late game as you would never be able to assume somewhere is completely safe!

9) Defensive structurs should be able to be moved (very slowly) by construction ships (to allow redeployment after phase lane changes!)

10) NO MINES! the idea of mines in space is relatively laughable. Just think in 3d people!!

11) Larger fleet sizes for huge maps. Limiting to 16 cap ships in a map with 20 stars and 200+ planets ie a little silly.

12) Support requirements. Frigates require support from cap ships or a command ship type cruiser to go a long way away from your planets.

13) Sub fleets / Fleets of fleets. Each sub fleet is commanded by given ship, what ship you choose affects bonuses to all ships in sub fleet. So carrier command ship improves fighter and bomber coordination, Battleship improves rate of fire, support ship improves point defence or shield regen or whatever.

14) Planetary defence fleets. An expensive planet upgrade that provides some relatively powerful non phase jump capable ships for planetary defence. Would reduce planetary resource output by a percentage but increase defence.

15) More upside/downside tradoffs. Increase rate of fire at the expense of damage, increase fighter damage but reduce manuverability etc...

They did say that at some point they were going to add more artefacts and anomalies in a patch.

It's decided it won't let me edit my last post so:

"

Actually if they were close to the planet it could work.

Things I'd like to see:

More ship types (Super Capital ships would add some interesting things)

Better graphics

More ship paint customization

Single player campain

More research options (So you don't research everything in the first 20 minutes of a game)

More artifacts and anomalies

More planet types, with moons

More diplomacy options (the ability to give missions to others would be nice...) spying and stealing tech and ship designs from other races would allow for some more ship variety in your own fleet

basically just, more, more, more... like an expansion should be...  :D

Special thanks to Danman and Uzii and all the rest who are providing these on their own time.  :CONGRAT:

the idea of customizing the capital ships more would be amazing... maybe have boarding of them... also the amount or engineers to security to navigators... of course engineers might make the ship repair faster... security would protect against boarding... navigators would improve weapons fire and piloting...

All I ask is that you make the side panel sticky... I hate when I am microing on the side panel and it keeps going up and down as ships enter/exit the system. I want to be the only thing manipulating the side panel - unless I dbl. click on a ship (take me to it on the side panel) I like to assign targets to my ships using the side panel - anyone else have this problem??

single player mode, this can also show what differnt ships are good for because i mostly only use light figates and capitals but now trying to figure out good use for the other ones.

being able to for permant fleets round capital ships, you have to do this manualy now but you could make capital ship have an atendent fleet permantly asigned to it. like the admeral but without extra abilitys and supper powers.

make your own capital ships eg set number of gun ports and chose from differnt guns with differnt abilits ectra eg make a cross between the mazer and the one with the srtike craft.

combine some of the user graphics which improve the game in to an update cause theres some good ones out there more research.

I'd love to see a new playable race thats actually nomadic, never colonizing a planet and more like having a homestay vessel with which they just move around the galaxy, draining planets and asteroids of resources, leaving them barren and broken *maybe even partially destroyed*. I think they introduced such a race in one of their galciv2 expansions

would love to see that in Sins

a) I want more customisable ship designs.
b) more 3d movement
c) A no space lanes option - or at least the ability to choose ship routes outside the normal lanes
Reply #221 Top
-At least one moon per planet
-can be either population centers or battle stations
-orbital battle stations
-planetary based shields
-armed asteroid bases
-more tactical and logistic slots
-asteroid belts orbiting/halving whole systems instead of just one gravity well
-ship manuvers(preprogrammed), no mor slugfests
-formations
-more ships
-more tech
-more anomalies
-more realistic planet sizes (if possible)
-a few more capital ships ex.instead of only one ship dedicated to being a carrier, have two different carrier classes.
-better cruisers
-larger squadron capacity, the orbital launch thing is huge but it can only hold like two squads, and their is no way they only have enough room for one squad on those cruisers.
-more variety of strikecraft

also forgot. i had an idea a little while ago about random jumps, where instead of using only the lanes u could make a random jump, but because its not plotted there would be downsides, such as half your fleet dissappearing, aka lost in transition. or ending up at the wrong place, or this might be hard, but ending up between gravity wells.
I think there should be a higher fleet capacity, but that's just cause I like 100+ planet 3+ star maps with like 6+ AI. I don't know if it is possible to change that in the mod pack or whatever because I haven't looked into it at all or instyalled anything like updates or mods. I also generally agree with the OP.

I'd like to be able to create subgroups under fleets and have them with a certain order modes.

For example,

in Fleet 1 I'd make
Group 1
Capital Ships
Group 2
smaller combat ships
Group 3
Support ships

and for certain order modes

For group 1 i'd give them the order "Attack non-capital ships", while for group 3 i might do "support capital ships".

These orders would be the same as setting stance to aggressive, etc.

My suggestions for an expansion pack is following:-

1. Increase the number of capital ships able to produce and maintain that is dependant on the existing fleet research and a direct coralation on the size of number planets owned by the player's empire.

2. Customisiable military/ civilian reseach modules to enable use of players mod ship and structures

3. More fleets commands (i.e Guard and Patrol) - This has been not been answered by the developers in seperate forum message post. As besides other members commenting that is ok. Their is no Patrol command via pre-defined way point so that the fleet/ ships move without remaining still within a system or number systems without the players manually instructing them each time to move.
