What do YOU name your Capital ships?

What do YOU name your Capital ships?

Just please don't say fluffy.

I'm just interested in what you guys name your capital ships. I figured it would be a fun thread!

I usually play TEC and name my first few ships very methodically.

1st cap: Kol Battleship
Name: TDN Bahamut
Why?: Because Bahamut is a friggin' mythological serpent-dragon in all of the Final Fantasy games and plus, it sounds like an awesome name. I just got in the habit. Plus he was a beast mid-game (lvl 7-8).

2nd cap: Kol Battleship
Name: TDN Tiamat
Why?: Well, Tiamat was never as strong as Bahamut and usually isn't by the time he rolls out.

3rd cap: Marza Dreadnought
Name: TDN Yiazmat
Why?: Well, I gotta keep with the final-fantasy dragon-related names! Yiazmat was the insanely high HP boss from FFXII for any of you who don't know. And he took way too long to kill. 1.2 million health, methinks? Plus he sounds like he likes to raze planets.

I really run out of names at this point but usually like to keep it mythology related (ie Cerberus, Diablos, Titan, etc). And I don't have a system for the other two races.

Please, someone else tell me names to help me assure myself that I'm not the only dork out there.

Now THAT was a bump. But, hey, I suppose this is the kind of thread you don't need to repost.

I think.

Anyways, it's been a long time since I made my list. Sure as Hell changed a lot since the time I made it. So, here's what the Garrant Commonwealth fields in its expeditionary fleet.

Battleships (Great Generals):
CSS Wallais
CSS Hughes
CSS Aarons

Carriers (Great Leaders):
CSS Melioman (Flagship and built first)
CSS Burgus
CSS Rovinoff
CSS Vierlaun

Battlecruisers (Nations):
CSS Garrant
CSS Praetoria
CSS Marroli
CSS Timosi

Troop Transports (Famous Cities):
CSS Cehoma
CSS Junholdt
CSS Freedan
CSS Nethron

Dreadnoughts (Planets):
CSS Anchorage
CSS Novenanch
CSS Clemston
CSS Novenholdt

I'm not going to pretend I know any German, but I tried to make many of the names sound German without actually being German.

Heh. I do kinda the same thing....carriers after cities, battleships after mythological places (Eden, Olympus, etc...), support after greek gods, and dreadnoughts after roman gods.

Depending on who I'm playing, i switch the names up, but they are almost always political figures.

Examples:

USS Obama

USS Rosevelt

USS Washington

USS Lincholn

USS Jefferson

or

USSR Stalin

USSR Marx

USSR Kruschev

USSR Lennin

or

SS Hitler

SS Himler

SS Rommel

SS Goering

SS Speer

These names just kind of lend themselves to their respective factions.

I name my ships once they've earned a name. For instance, I had a massive ding-dong with the Vasari over an asteroid I planted a flag on.

They had oodles of frigates and a carrier, and my light defence force wasn't fairing too well. I pulled my reserve Kol and all my other support ships into the fight (which brought the numbers on each side to about even).

Man, I know I should gush but it was so dramatic.. the Kol was almost destroyed, stayed in the fight long enough to put the carrier out of action and just made it out of the system alive.

The backbone of the Vasari assault was broken, and my frigates could handle the stragglers while the Kol limped out of the gravity well while under constant attack from bomber wings and back to the safety of my capital planet. I renamed the ship after the system it had protected (can't remember what it was called though, began with a 'K'), it was that epic - but I guess you had to be there (thousand yard stare) :)

The ability called 'Finest Hour' was well earned for that encounter.

I have such a hard on for this game.

Ender
Bean
Petra
Hot Soup
Hegemon
Surley
Ali

However I've recently been playing the BSG mod for the game as Cylons, so now my ships are named stuff like #30257

The user profile should save what you name your first capital ship or something. so that it does it automatically

I name first 3 or 4 caps starwars, british navy, mythology, other sci - fi names and sometimes change them based on events eg. I had a lvl10 radiance that died named Void Dragon and its resurrected  replacement (progenitor ultimate) was named wraith dragon oh and the progenitor got renamed Osiris' Word, or the kol that was renamed Vanidas' Hope after helping the Asteroid Vanidas repel repeated advent attacks.

Names I remember using

Executor (Vaders' flagship)

Aegis(usually on a dunov)

Void Pheonix (carrier flagship)

Pheonix (carrier)

Void Dragon (name of necron c'tan) (used on battleships or dreadnoughts)

Dragon (used on battleships or dreadnoughts)

Void Wraith (usually on support caps)

Wraith (usually on support caps)

Osiris' Word (on progenitor)

Wraith Dragon (battleships and resurrected battleships)

Armageddon (on dreadnoughts)

Darkstar (after debunked theory and the game Darkstar One)

Spectre (usually on support caps)

Gehenna (biblical old testament) (used on dreadnoughts)

Death Star (used only once on a modded Antorak that could kill almost anything on its own)

Indomitable (usually on battleships or flagships)

Kinesia (original random sins name I might have spelt it wrong)

Hydra (on carriers)

Fearless

as for reason: David Wber - Honorverse XD

I like naming my ships after people, that way, it makes me more angry when I lose them:

Morgan Freeman

Mandela

Malcolm X

Ghandhi

Will Smith

Morpheus

As for planets, I don't much care about those...

I have a friend who always names all his planets NotHere...then he builds novaliths and when the game is lagging it can be a real pain to try and figure out which planets he is building them on

I name my advent cap ships "Radiance I", Radiance II", "Progenitor I", etc. and a level 6+ progenitor named "Resurrection"  so when one of them dies I can make a new one, use resurrection, and have the exact same fleet. It might be a bit unimaginative, but it helps keep my fleets balanced. Likewise, i name my desert planets "Sand #", asteroids "Rock#", dead asteroids "dRock#", etc. Again, slightly boring, but it keeps stuff organized.

I often dont get time to name my capital ships, multiplayer is really fast that way... but if I am tec and i do get time, I tend to name my lv 6 marza something fuzzy.

TDN fluffy

TDN Cuddles

TDN Mittens

if i ever achieve 3 lv 6 akkans, i will name em:

TDN Cant

TDN Touch

TDN This

its too bad i mostly play vasari, and its harder to play tec now because everyone else hopped on the vasari bandwagon.

First Cap (Regardless of type): TDN Salvacion (after the Ace Combat city, epic name)

All others:

Carriers: Birds of Prey (Eagle, Hawk, Kestrel, Raven)

Dunovs: Cars (Magnum, Charger, Challenger, Mustang, neon)

Marza: Tanks (Abrams, Patton, Bradley, Sheridan)

Kols: Attack Helicopters (Apache, Super Cobra, Mangusta, etc.)

Akkans: States (Arizona, Alaska, New York, Virginia)

Various genital names, because it evokes many a laugh from my mates when they see their ships get destroyed by "Hardon" and the like.
When they do similar it just gets better ;-)

I just take the ship's original name: TDN Ithaca or something, and change it to HDF Ithaca. Some sort of recognizable acronym. Humanitarian Defense Fleets.

I ONLY play TEC, even with the latest updates, so there it no other way of naming something for me.

The only times I play as other races are when I am experimenting with mods or figuring just how many Kostura Cannons I can have before my opponent gives up.
