Mapping - Wormhole Lanes

I'm working on a map to play online with my friends and my question deals with the wormhole lanes. I have 3 distant planets that i've made connections to, selected the lines and made them wormhole lanes. Do they just work as long as you have wormhole tech researched OR do I need to go back in and specifically put in the wormhole exit entities between each planet and wormhole lane?
