[MOD] Wing Commander : Codename "Initium"

We are rounding up the support and the crew



Wing Commander: Initium Mod for Sins of Solar Empire.

The Initium will place You in a Universe, where the Terrans, Kilrathi and Border Worlds / Nephilim fight over the control of the galaxy. You will take a role of a leader in of one of the factions and fight for dominance in the universe.

A Total Conversion which will bring the Wing Commander Universum into the Sins of Solar Empire game.
We are aiming at a fully emphasized fighter/carrier combat*, a singleplayer campaign*, slightly enhanced effects and redone gameplay* to suit the Wing Commander fighting style.

Current planned development:
- Implementing over 20 fighter-types including heavy fighters and bombers*
- Implementing experience and abilities into fighter-craft [ by fighter-craft I mean every single small ship ]. *
- Revisiting the tech-tree to suit the theme
- Enhancing the effects a slight bit
- Introducing new ships and models into the WC universe.
- Full Orchestral soundtrack composed by Andrew McLean
- Remastered sound effects
- Singleplayer campaign*

Wrote a utility to convert a list of Wing Commander system names to a mod-supported planet names list and sent it to Raxiv. I'm running with it on my copy locally and it definitely adds a nice bit of flavor to the game. If anyone else wants that data, send me a PM with your E-Mail.

Anyone know of a list of all sector / quadrant names in plain-text? I can modify my algorithm and generate a star name definitions from that source very quickly if I had a list to work with.

Why not make the setting in the Privateer Timeline? That had Kilrathi, Pirates, & Aliens and even more competing factions.

I have lots of information about wing commander... I simply love the series of games, although I was dissappointed by the Prophecy/Secret Ops games, the Nephilim seemed like a poor attempt to continue a story when the story should have been started instead. (Battle of McAuliffe would have been more fun than a new alien threat.)

Personally I'd love to build Vesuvius-class supercarriers in Sins, but that brings up an important question:

Do you intend to be accurate to the canon? or will you make this alternate?

Example, the Vesuvius was built using a combination of Terran and Kilrathi enginuity, so without the end of the war, this ship would never have been built.

Personally I can offer lots of help regarding ideas ^.^ And my favorite timeline was the wc 3/4 era.

About the factions, I read some great ideas on this thread but I have possible idea to add to it:

Orriginal Idea: Use the Border Worlds as neutral "and" pirate factions...
My Idea: Use the Border Worlds as neutral "only" faction and use the Mandarines (wing commander II: they were humans sympathetic to the Kilrathi, but the Kilrathi wouldn't think twice about killing them when it suited them)

When I bought this game today and read about a Star Wars mod, Wing Commander was the first thing that popped into my head as something that needs done.

therse probly a good chance its dead. as far as a campagain goes i dont think its possible. as far as other specifics go, its probly not that hard if you got a good modeler, the coding is rather easy.

making a campaing wouldnt be that hard as you would most likly just make a bunch on maps and add a personal short story to the map description but would be a little boring as you cant get much into it as for dialog ect.

 

Stardock really needs to make a story mod for this game i think

:(  Wing Commander was interesting, hope the mods not dead, but i have had a few "this is not gonna work" ideas die on me. Not that i didnt want them to be cool, i just couldnt pull off what i wanted, my chess mod is a good example, thought it was cool, couldnt get it to work the way the idea played in my head. It was just sorta Sins with 16 ships instead of hundreds, not what i had hoped at all, but what can i say?  

These guys may have run into something of the same, hope not, it would be cool to have them post back and say its done and uploading, but after this long, i dont know.  :(  Anyway, WC was very cool, what about the DOW mod? Might have a similar "feel"?  Dont know, but i think that one is still going hard at work.

Is this dead? I find strange that probably the game better for a wing commander universe has not a mod from it. If the people do not find models, perhaps they should try a new aproach, they can try contact the creators from other mods on other games, probably Mayor A Payne from Star Wars Empire at War can help you with this.

I still remember doubling my ram to a whopping 8 megs for Wing Commander 3 Eye the Tiger. When Mark Hamill jumped in the cockpit to launch, the extra ram shorted the loading time by 32 secs...boy life was good...
