Battletech

Battletech, or Mechwarrior for some of you, could easily make an excellent mod for this game, space flight and combat is just as developed as the Mechs and power armor combat on the planet surfaces. And I believe the features of this game could support it pretty well. Let me know what you think.

Well, I'm just trying to flesh out the teams technology and vessels before I go further right now, but I am unsure of how to approach the teams. Whether it should be say generic Inner Sphere vs. Clan teams, or if you could choose between the different clans and houses, the later providing alot more work since there alot of both. Either only specific ones would be in it, or many of the sides would have alot of shared tech, with some differences. And choosing from the hundreds of ships and technologies to place in the game would not be easy either.

There is enough Aerotech in the BT lore for Clan and Freebirth scum... I mean Inner Sphere.

or just get a bunch of BT junkies to all play TEC for IS and Vasari for Clan  :CONGRAT:

Sins is primarily a space wars game as mechwarrior is a ground combat type game. Since sins doesnt have ground combat, doubt if you will be able to mod it. Do you mechwarrior fans realize that there is a new game developed by prior mech players that is close to going live or has?(online multiplayer) One possiblity is the old space empires V game has ground "troops" and might be modelable.

No.

Battletech is about Mech (surface) combat, not about space combat. Sins would not be a good game for a battletech mod imo.

I'm a little skeptical if it will actually feel like mechwarrior, but at least it has some very nice mech models. :D

While Battletech is primarily about ground combat, there is a lot of warships in the Battletech universe. Heck, an ilKhan, Leo Showers, leader of the Clans during the invasion (3049 - 3051), was killed with an Inner Sphere figher rammed the bridge of his flagship.

I will now direct you to this site: http://www.chaosmarch.com/
And the Aerospace and Ship sections under the Technical Readouts of the Inner Sphere and Clans.

I am going to have to agree with Kuren. You guys obviously (not to be mean) are not that big of mechwarrior fans. I have read every book and played every game, There are books entirely about space combat, you never see a mech, and there damn good. Just because the games that are made do not focus on space does not mean its not there, there are hundreds of jumpship, dropship, warship, and aerocraft classes, space stations, weapons designed specifically for space warfare. Go to Solaris7.com and look around you get an idea of how much there is. Trust me Im having a hard time choosing from all the stuff there is to put in this mod. Its just as developed as the mechs on the ground, and if you know all there is to know about battletech, mechs are the majority focus, but they do not even comprimise half of this wonderful universe.

Battletech indeed has a huge amount of space combat. Sadly, the novels (and AFAIK all the video games) focus pretty heavily on the ground side of combat.

Unfortunately, yes there are only about three or four out of the hundred odd novels that even mention space combat, which is why this is so difficult. I am currently using sourcebooks from the old tabletop game, in combination with the drawings from solaris7.com to get a better feel for the vessels, and attempting to see which ones I will use, theres alot to choose from.
