Fps problems in huge fights?

Hi all. So I have a brand new computer with a 3.16 Ghz dual-core, an Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 meg video card and 3 gig of Corsair DDR2 memory.

Still, when it comes to huge fights, my fps drops to 9-10. It happens mostly when I play against Advent, the Iconus Guardians shields don't really help. I do use Bailknights' mod for better weapons visuals, so I don't know if it counts in the balance.

I can play other games like Company of Heroes without any fps drops, so I don't really understand why I'm having such a hard time in big battles. Of course, everything is put at it's highest setting, except for anti-anliasing which is at 2x.

Any advice to increase fps?

Are there chat messages from the other players at the top of the screen during the battles?

That caused problems in the past. It still does, for me, actually. OTherwise, I dunno.

It might simply be that depending on how big a fight you do, it's simply that no computer is able to process HUGE fights smoothly. I mean, I've seen similar pc specs, but with a much more advanced graphic card, and the FPS STILLwere kinda slow. And it may also depend on if you get really close into the game to see all the lasers shooting, ships blowing up, etc.

Pcs nowadays aren't super-powered quite yet...
