As a new player.... only 1 gripe

Have only had the game for around 2 weeks and this is a GREAT game. Never the sama game twice!

I have played all 3 races and the only problem I have with any of them is with the Vasari.

I love the race, but there is 1 sentance that makes me cringe to play them....

"Our ships have exited phaaaaaaaaaaase space"

Is there a way to delete this ONE sound file? It drives me bonkers

Someone help me before I go insane???? }:)

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Sound

Not sure which file it is that has that announcement, and it might be in the same file as some other sounds you might want to keep.

That's the ONLY Vasari voice clip that makes you insane? Man, you're doing better than I am! ^_^

Exarion gave you the right folder, and the file you're looking for is called "EventPhase_PlayerFleetArrived.ogg". Maybe you can just delete it entirely, but I don't know, that might cause problems. Replace it with something, even a blank file, and you should be good to go.

I love this game, but the voices... Advent is the only faction I can play without screaming.

And what happens when the game trys to play a text file as a sound? Bet it has an issue due to you mucking with the install.

Here's a solution - only build in your HW grav well until another player/AI comes and attacks - that way there is no phase jumping to annoy you :D

I love the Vasari announcer sounds! They creep my mom out though....

The TEC annoy me the most....some of the voices make the ships commanders sound like their about 5

It's easy to "fix", duplicate and rename another sound file of your choice to replace the culprit.

I'm surprised by how the voices are annoying to people; I thoroughly enjoy each and every one of them.

Then again I suppose I just don't get exposed to some of the classical 4X [in fact, this is my FIRST 4x game] games or space strategies [such as GalCiv].

But hey, I'm going to go play the Vasari and crank the sound up as I exit PHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE SPACE. :P

I enjoyed the voices, the first couple games, but game after game, thousands of ships later, it's crazy-making.  I think it was their earlier attempts to stop LRM spam by making you hear "missles loaded" for every single LRM you made ;P

Know what I hate most about the voices? It's a subtle thing about the actual writing, not the voice acting.

What I hate most is how so many ships have a response appropriate to a single soldier, like you'd find in Warcraft, not a ship with thousands of people aboard.

They're always referring to themselves as "I", or "me". I know you're talking to an individual captain, but that's a flimsy excuse, because it's obvious that the lines weren't written with that in mind.

Not to sound too harsh, but it's simply a failure of mindset on the part of the writer. They were thinking of what this single unit would say if you click on it, not what the captain of a multi-thousand-crewed vessel would say if contacted on a radio.

TEC Frigate: "Gotta job for me?"

Me: "Yeah... pizza delivery boy. I think it's right up your alley."

Surprisingly, this actually bugs me more than hearing the voice actor who did Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Starscream from the Transformers play the part of a "scary" alien, and believe me, that's a hard, hard act to beat. ^_^

Overall, the voices just have WAY TOO MUCH character.

That bugs you?  I love the Vasari lizard voices.  I especially love, "SeaRRRRRRRchink the planet has not fouNd anything!"

send a scout or colony ship to attack someone/something for a quick lol

its funny to hear what they say hehe

i do however think the voices and whatnot should be redone!

they should play homeworld 2 all the way through then they will know how its done :)

Man I remember the days when everything vasari was "sinnnnnissssster" , and im sure it was one of the devs who did the voice over work for that. Who who who?!

Hehe, I'm the opposite.  Playing Advent is like having to listen to angry girl scouts for 2 hours.

Yeah, the beta voices were all IC folks.. no idea which of them did that line, though :(

Blair and I did most of the TEC voices, Steve voiced the Vasari (with major post work), and Josie voiced the Advent. Who knows, we may have some cameos in the next game ;)

Ahh - game development on a shoe string budget.... Love it :D

Well, that was only for Beta. The voices in retail are done by professional actors (as was said above, the actor who did the Vasari voice also did Starscream in the Transformers movie, for example)

So how come I never here an audio grab screaming "Megatron" when I play Vassari??? Oh wait - that was in the cartoons :D

What drives me nut when I first played was the fact that there is no campaign.  Every other RTS has one!

But Sins is not a pure RTS... It has elements of games like Civilisation - that never had a campaign either - only pre-created maps or ones you randomly generated...

The vasari voice acting is so bad I can't play that race at all.. it's also why I play advent the most (since that one is the least irritating and probably most in character). TEC is bad, but not fatally bad... I do feel like shooting most of my fleet captains dead though (especially pizza delivery boy)

edit: and a campaign would be nice :) .. I want to devle into the backstory more.

If you're getting bored with the single player game, have you considered investigating online multiplayer?  Clikc the "Ironclad Online" button and come check it out.  You can play games with locked teams, locked free-for-all (FFA), and unlocked free-for-all (FFA with diplomacy).  If you're not ready for human v. human games, there's a market for humans v. AI games.  That way you can play against the AI while having human teammates to talk to and to learn from.

The voice acting is cheesey but its made worse (misleading not just annoying) by how many alerts you get. Allies announcing they need assistance because one ship has entered thier system, new diplomatic missions etc - I simply turn off dialog in the sounds menu and keep my eyes open! Its a shame as the sound effects and in game music are pretty decent imo - although the guy who lives under me and my 350 watt pc speakers may disagree X)
